Praise for Mason Fine (and how far we've come)
peanuts104 replied to meangreen2016's topic in Mean Green Football
Bean is more of a runner, Pearson is a pocket passer. Why not play both? I want Kason to sit for this year and learn, but I think Kason could be the heir apparent after Mason leaves, though who knows. All the QBs are young and it's hard to speculate at this point. -

This is why I hate the what if game. There are so many things we could have done or not done toward the end. I think the pressure kicks for Hedlund is concerning going forward. I don't know how we're going to know how good the QB stable is behind Fine if we don't play them more. Like largekfcbucket said, I'd be interested to see how Martin, Bean, or Pearson could do. Quinn does not seem keen to pass the ball. Either way, no reason to rush Mason back against UTEP. -

I hope he doesn't play next week. We shouldn't need him against UTEP. -

As much as I want to praise him for his toughness and as much shit as I'm going to get for saying this, his unwillingness to take himself out of the game could have been a deciding factor. I don't like to play the what if game, but he was not able to operate the offense like it should have been in his condition. He made some good plays but him keeping himself in the game, while a display of toughness, was also a display of arrogance on both the part of himself and the coaches (for not pulling him), one that might have lost us the game. I love Mason Fine, he is a fantastic quarterback, but he was a liability on the field, and while he put us in a position to get the last minute field goal at the end, we stalled on the previous two drives with him hobbled. He should have taken himself out of the game or the coaches should have done it for him, end of story. Edit: Also failed to make mention of this, it is a long season. If him moving around on that knee made the injury worse and we lose him for more games, he did us an even worse disservice.- 41 replies

It's called HOLDING
-
I saw it on TV on replay, ball hit the ground before it crossed the goal line. It was a good call.

*** OFFICIAL La. Tech vs. UNT GAME THREAD***

Exactly what I was thinking. The change up with Shanbour running instead of passing could have been the change of pace to get is closer to field goal range. -
They played a good game. We still made a boat load of mistakes. And I don't think La Tech got called for holding once and I thought I saw a lot of it. Maybe it's just perception bias on my part, but if the situation were reverse I would take it.

100% agreed

I still think we needed to pull Fine. We lost a couple of drives because he was hurting, then the fumbled snap. I love Mason to death but he shouldn't have been in the game. -

Do we have two time outs or three? -

They've been getting away with holding all night. -

Again, we need to pull Mason. He's a liability on the field with the injury. -

I hate to say it, but we need to pull Mason. It's a long season. -
Hard to compare, Ty Storey looks like a much better qb than that other guy that played most of the game against us.

One comment I have is pretty early. Y'all touch on J'Mar Smith being a good thrower on the run. The thing I see (and hopefully the defense and LBs see) is that when they do that, they open the opportunity for our LBs to shoot massive gaps. Moving the pocket against our defense isn't ideal in my opinion. I could be wrong, and Smith is definitely dangerous on the scramble, but I think our linebackers will make like tough for him.

Our media relation people are killing it.

If you listen to Littrell, they don't think of themselves as underdogs.

Does anyone know what car Hambone drives?
-
So you're saying if we rush for 346 yards against LA Tech, we will lose?
-
Not gonna cry if they get their asses whooped. I'd laugh. I just imagine there will be some inappropriate poster for us as well. I'm curious to see what they come up with lol. It'll be even sweeter when we whoop that ass.

Can't wait to see what they do for our game day!
