Tough Times Ahead for San Antonio?

Sounds vaguely familiar. Edit: Eyeroll all you want, but if it wasn't for Seth's stupid contract we would have canned his ass last year.- 22 replies

(If he ends up at OU) Seth Littrell can suck my ass for this vindictive poach. I don't blame Gumms, go get that money. But **** Seth.

Am I the only one worried about the Defense?
peanuts104 replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I've always been worried about the defense, even under a good coordinator like Bennett. And to be VERY clear, I know some people have said that Bennett wasn't good. I say, if you look at the defensive turnaround, they are dumb. And also, as a head coach, he played the closest bowl game since Seth played Army in his first year. That is the historical knowledge I have. I have no idea how this new staff will do anything. I just hope it is less tumultuous and we can not have chaos all the time. -
Breaking: KD Davis Tore ACL During Frisco Bowl
peanuts104 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Clearly I believe fans can and should voice their opinions. Dragging a player for making a decision that is best for their career and money making opportunities, like sitting out a bowl game, is bad. Dragging them for poor performance, attitude, etc is fine (and many disagree with that). Davis was a leader on the team and he wanted to lead on the field and I love him for it. The outcome is terribly tragic. I wouldn't have thought less of him if he sat, but, I think, he knew his own teammates would. -

Nah, he officially declared. He's gone.

He took his name out of the portal which was the original topic. A couple hours later he officially announced declaring for the draft and the topic was edited to reflect that.

North Texas Football Staff Tracker
peanuts104 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Portal is open until Jan 18, so still some time for players to announce and make decisions. Hopefully we'll hear some news over the next couple of weeks. And as I understand the portal rules (please correct me if I'm wrong), the window is just to enter their names into the portal. Once they have entered their name to the portal, the can transfer at anytime at that point. -
So how does this work? Does he still have a scholarship with us? I thought a few people on here were saying his scholarship was forfeit if he officially went into the portal, but I don't know enough about it to know if that is true.

**** no

So, if Fine had redshirt 2016, started 2017, he would have an extra year because of covid year rule. So he could have played 2017-2021 technically. But it is absurd to say we missed out for a once in a lifetime pandemic imo.

Given your assessment, Earle has the edge for QBs on the roster, which is what I saw from UIW and WSU too. Curious what we can get in the portal. You are absolutely correct in this is the most important position. If Morris doesn't win on this, it will be tough sledding. Agreed on everything. They really tried to keep Aune from having the ball in 20 and 21. Well, we only know he could have played through 21 with hindsight because of the covid year. No way that could have influenced Fine's decision making in 2016. Alec Morris was a 3rd stringer on an Alabama team that was primarily about the run. I know he was a standout at (Allen? McKinney? can't remember and won't look it up). And to his credit, he preformed very well when Fine was injured in 16 for the bowl game and he stepped in. The fact that Fine was able to take away the position so easily shows how much of a talent he is.

Okay, we have a mostly new staff. Some good recruiters supposedly. Etc etc etc. Even with the couple of skill position guys we have lost to the portal, receivers look solid going into next year (knocking on wood for future portal shenanigans) and, most importantly imo, we seem to be retaining Gumms. With our obvious talent at running back, we should have a good cushion for a new QB in terms of offensive flexibility. With Aune in the draft portal draft, let's hope Morris doesn't take him back when nobody else takes him. So, is our future QB on the roster? Is it Gunnell? Earle? Even guys that didn't see action this year like Ruder or Head? We have a glaring hole in our roster and it has been a glaring hole for three years since Mason Fine left. I expect this is Morris' top priority in terms of players and I'm curious if we may get someone from the outside. My personal opinion, considering Earle played more than Gunnell this season, Earle should have a slight lead I would expect unless we bring in a QB from the outside with more D1 experience.

Not sure how that logic tracks when Kason was solidly 3rd string both 2020 and 2021 behind two QBs that were alternating starts.
