Zach Orr was a damn beast. Miss him on the Ravens. -
DRC (updated): Jalen Guyton leaving UNT to declare for NFL draft

Guess fighting for a UDFA spot is more appealing to him than another year of CFB. Will he even get a combine invite? Tough road ahead, but I wish him the best! -
Before we bend over and relegate ourselves to FCS, the G5 needs to do a better job of fighting for a landscape that is more palatable to low revenue athletics departments. The Power conferences have worked to gain autonomy in rule making, the Group of 5 should try as well. G5 teams should fight to for their football teams to become exempt from Title IX and cut "non revenue" sports. This would not be popular, and honestly I don't know how I feel about this myself, but it might be necessary. Outside of that, the G5 needs to thin the herd of small market, low ceiling teams, and coalesce into fewer bigger regional conferences. Lets do that before we create another D1 football subdivision that nobody will really care about.

If only the G5s break away, the end result would be another version of D1-AA. No TV deals, no anything. Revenues will go down even more. Why would we want that? Now if the bottom 75 percent of the P5 wants to join, it gets interesting. Let the 20-30 big programs do their own thing and play semi-pro ball (champions league, or some other corny name), and let everyone else play college football. I'm not sure the weak P5 teams have any incentive to break away, either. There doesn't appear to be a good solution out there.

I did my undergrad at a D3 school. We had a better set up than this.

Early Top 25 CFB article mentions UNT

My way to early take is that UAB will be a shell of what they were this year. -
This is such a dumb meme. Does it matter who's name is on the deed? The money comes from the same place, and at the end of the day the president and board of regents are in charge. The university isn't going to schedule a HS graduation and force Athletics to move a game. Athletics wants a new flashy arena. That's fine. But it shouldn't be because they don't want to share.

Is the Pac-12 considered a power conference in basketball? Doesn't seem like it should be.

hardship as in, "i really dont want to sit out a year"

Conference USA is in the 10-15 range out of 32 conferences. Not bad, but not good. To get an at-large your resume including OOC wins and SOS has to be really convincing. If we had beaten OU, maybe our resume is strong enough. As is, it is not. The only sure path is to win as many games as you can, and win the conference tournament.

It really was a good crowd. In my opinion the pit's size tends to swallow the crowd and make it feel smaller, but it was loud and raucous all the same.

What is the Coolest Mean Green Item You Own ?

Pretty good alumni fundraising support. Only so much we can do though. -
Yup. OU is more popular in Denton than UNT is.

The area between Bonnie Brae and campus really needs some reinvestment. Poor housing stock and awful streets. College Inn is just the icing on the poop cake over that way

Can't keep a coach so there's no proactive recruiting. The Rec won't let the team use funds to pay a coach, unlike other programs they play against. Absolutely zero institutional support. So kids go play for Tx State, TCU, UT, A&M, etc. -
If UCF and USF had a power team and one self-important wannabe within their metropolitan area/TV market like we do with TCU and SMU they'd look exactly like UNT. While Florida is basically split between UF, FSU and Miami, all that really matters is your TV market in this new landscape. We share ours with two ding dongs that eat up all the bandwidth.

Power conferences are the ones with TV deals worth a damn (5 of them). There is no such thing as the P6. I feel that way sometimes too. While they have good teams from time to time, the ceiling of your typical MAC team seems much lower. I think most of it is geographic bias. The rust belt is a boring part of the country that nobody really cares about. The inverse of that is, who really cares about UNC Charlotte and ODU? Not me. MAC and CUSA are pretty similar on paper though. The average CUSA school is actually slightly smaller (23,925 to 24,001) (median CUSA 22,904; median MAC 23,393). With their boring looking HS stadiums, its clear that the institutional support isn't as strong though.

UH is trading on margin here. $4m/year is ridiculous and unsustainable for a G5 program unless you are sure it will result in performance that will catapult you to the next level. Dana Holgorsen is a decent coach. But in my opinion, he didn't do anything spectacular at WV other than convince kids that living in the worst state in the country was worth a scholarship. So they fired their coach after an 8 win season to hire a more expensive guy who seems to get a lot of 8 win seasons. K. I think all they've done is inflated the G5 salary market, and this worries me. North Texas might have the institutional willpower to pull off upper G5 salaries, but that's only a guess on my part. How much is SL going to want if he sticks around a few more years? With that said, none of the P5's conferences really impressed with the clown show Coog High has put on. Good work guys.

https://sports.yahoo.com/major-applewhites-job-limbo-reveals-administrative-clown-show-houston-233551453.html Yikes... Pretty scathing commentary from the writer and sources. On one hand, it's kind of the P5's fault for creating an environment where G5 teams have to sell their souls to get ahead. But Houston appears to be doing itself no favors.
