MGB: Key questions series Part I -- Who starts at QB?
AustinFromUNT replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I want whoever gives us the best chance to win to play. With that being said the ideal situation would be mason starting with Isadore backing up and Cade red shirting. But whoever is the best should get the position. -
2016 CUSA Assistant Coach Salary Pool
AustinFromUNT replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
The Wren responded to me about this. Or at least about how they are handling the athletic budget in general. -
http://247sports.com/Player/Austin-Stogner-46036234 Currently has 5 offers including us. He has 3 P5 offers (Baylor, Okie State, & Colorado) and then 2 G5 in us and nUTSAck. I would think he goes P5, but could be a chance for SL to really get a good one. His dad was a WR for Baylor and his cousin was a WR for NC. Maybe SL's NC ties could help out.

Current 2018 Recruiting Standpoint
AustinFromUNT replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Update: UTSA just got a commitment from Sheldon Jones, a WR out of New Orleans. Isn't currently rated but 247 lists him as having an offer from Memphis. -
MGB: Thoughts on where UNT could turn for new OL coach
AustinFromUNT replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
My prediction is that it will come down to Hays and Adkins. The Oklahoma ties Littrell loves or more of the similar offense that Tech runs. Will be intriguing to see which one he goes with. -
Firstly, it should be noted that some kids don't have a 247 and 247 can be slow to update offer lists, but here is where each C-USA stands in regards to offers and commitments for 2018 C-USA West: North Texas: 26 offers, 0 commits LA Tech: 18 offers, 0 commits Rice: 6 offers, 0 commits Southern Miss: 68 offers, 0 commits nUTSAck: 77 offers, 0 commits UAB: 28 offers, 2 commits (1 4 star & 1 2 star) UTEP: 0 offers, 0 commits C-USA East: Charlotte: 48 offers, 0 commits FIU: 27 offers, 1 commit (1 3 star) FAU: 95 offers, 3 commits (2 3 star, 1 unrated) Marshall: 39 offers, 0 commits MTSU: 18 offers, 0 commits ODU: 24 offers, 0 commits WKU: 22 offers, 0 commits So offer # wise it appears we're towards the middle of the pack. The Florida schools of course already have a few commits. Kind of frustrating to see nUTSAck have so many more kids offered than we do. what are your thoughts on the current state of 2018 recruiting and 2018 recruiting in general?

'18 DL Shabazz Dotson (Cedar Hill HS)
AustinFromUNT replied to GMG24's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I REALLY REALLY want him here. Pair him with Bryce English and that's a monster front. Also he RTed the link to this forum on his twitter. Guy is a beast on the D-Line. Let's go! -
I've held the position this entire time that it is better to take the better Xs and Os guy than the better recruiter. He could be terrible at recruiting but if he can coach up 2 star talent to 3 consistently, who cares. Build it and they will come.

https://www.google.com/amp/m.newsok.com/article/5536880/amp looks like Adkins was let go for bad recruiting. This will get instant backlash if he is hired from this board regardless of how good he is with jimmies and joes.
-
But then the question becomes how much do we have to shell out to get him.
-
Maybe SL will take this open spot and fill it with an OL coach who is known for recruiting?
-
*whispers into the void* what if we all emailed the staff and hit them up on twitter instead of just talking about it on a forum.
-
Well if any of y'all follow me on twitter, then you'll know I love nothing more than some high quality nUTSAck trolling. Would love to have more join in.
-
I just tweeted at both the football page and SL himself, so hopefully we'll at least make an offer since nUTSAck did.

https://www.twitter.com/tejas_e/status/827653757810900997 you have to admit, this is at least a little funny. But I decided to hop on the troll band wagon haha.

Good news is we have probably the best case scenario to beat them this season. Home game after coming off a bye-week and hopefully we can get that to be the HC game.

According to Adam Boedeker he is supposed to, but that was written 4 days ago. I couldn't find him as one of their announced signees on twitter. Also: if you think our player photoshop is bad, please go look at HBU's on twitter. Geez. -

Go ahead and put my prediction in the hall of fame because here is where SL's classes will rank in C-USA over his first 5 years and the records for those years Year 1: 5-8, 12th in recruiting Year 2: 8-5, 8th in recruiting Year 3: 8-5, 8th in recruiting Year 4: 9-4, 6th in recruiting Year 5: 9-4, 4th in recruiting

Did anyone else here watch his interview from NSD? He came off really confident that he is getting that starting job. Can't wait to see the competition this spring.

Wren Baker silently at work trying to bring in some new donors. That will always make me happy lol.

It's one recruiting class. Lots of excuses could be made but why not just say "oh well it's his first recruiting class, he'll do better next time." Why is it so hard to give him a chance to do better next season. Let me ask you this. If nUTSAck consistently pulls the #1 recruiting class under FW and SL consistently pulls 7-9, but SL beats them every year would you still complain about his recruiting? The purpose of recruiting is to get you closer to winning, but if you win what difference does it make if you finish 1,9, or 12?
