Huge OLine commitment!!! Kameron King
AustinFromUNT replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I think that if we are going to pursue a lot of OL then we should factor that into the recruiting discussion. So far for C-USA only 3 schools have picked up a 3 star OL guy. WKU (.8025), LA Tech (0.7999), & ODU (0.7999). OL guys always get rated lower than CB/S/WR so then we should think about that when a larger part of our classes are OL than other schools who pick up more of those naturally higher rated players. Compare the OL guys we get to the OL guys other schools get and you'll see we're on par to the top half of other schools at recruiting OL. -
Huge OLine commitment!!! Kameron King

Does bring up a good question though, we have A LOT of OL guys. We picked up 7 in the last class and we've got 4 committed now in this class. Do we take anymore this year? -

http://247sports.com/player/gregory-white-81322 He was originally committed to Grambling and then 2 days before NSD we offered and he chose us on NSD instead. Overall he had 8 offers (including us) with 2 being from other FBS schools (Tulane & Ohio). Not sure how we came about getting a guy from a Georgia HS but glad he is here.

Yeah I saw the pass. He kept running (but hobbling) for as long as he could after it happened. It was the same hamstring that he hurt last year. I saw home towards the end of practice with pads off. He needs to keep icing it and doing what he can to stay healthy, because when he's healthy he's good. Also he seemed really hesistant about taking a hit. He would stop anytime a LB or safety got close to him. And he'll likely be cautious until he takes that first big hit, but the question is will he regain confidence after that.

I was surprised that Isadore was getting as many reps as he was getting. The staff must think he has a chance to play at least in some capacity. Pearson had a few good throws, but he also threw some wobblers after about 20 yards. Fine started off slow but he really picked up about 1/2 way through. Shanbour did the opposite starting hot and finishing not so great. Mason could have had a few solid runs if it were a real game rather than a scrimmage. There were a couple plays where he could have made a 10-15 yard run but was blew down because a hand was placed on him. I would think that as of now it's 1) Fine 2) Shanbour 3) Isadore & then Cade is going to get his RS. Connor Means looks like a big dude, much bigger than I remember, he was also with the first team defense at linebacker. I stayed around for a bit after practice to talk to a few friends I have on the team and they said the hype is real this year. Also, I heard someone talking to Coach Harrell and all he could do was talk about Mason, so I think GH has made up his mind now about the starter. All in all not bad at all. I would say we look better now than we did at this time last year. Also, it was great seeing you there @Harry

I'm at the scrimmage right now and can tell you that this first team defense is GOOD. I mean they are very good. Also, Reffett REALLY likes to blitz with LBs. I would say every 4th or 5th play was a blitz, and sometimes more frequently than that. Also, Connor Means looks the part of a really good LB, he has bulked up a lot in the chest. Hambone is pretty much unstoppable. Nate Brooks is really good at making hard interceptions. There were times where the play was over in 1.5 seconds or less because of players getting to the QB. Maybe the OL is that bad, or maybe, just maybe, this is the best defense we have had in a very long time.

Let's say Mason starts against Lamar and builds a 21-28 point lead, do you pull him and let backup get some reps or do you keep him in and let him play a full game to prep for SMU.
-
Other than Lamar what games do you see us building a substantial lead?
-
Wow, you almost got the full spectrum of reactions.

'18 OLB Keyshawn Johnson (Duncanville HS)
AustinFromUNT replied to GMG24's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
After we offered he was rated a mid 2 star. After committing to ULM he was re-rated as a 3 star. -
I'll be there. Watch for the big dude being way too loud.

Further explanation please?

I'm pretty sure they changed that starting in the spring semester. Weekend parking now requires a pass.

Now, let's have a thoughtful discussion on who should start and WHY. The two major options are Mason Fine (returning starter) and Quinn Shanbour. However, if you think Cade Pearson is going to steal the job somehow feel free to make an argument here. I think Mason Fine should and will be the starter this fall, here's why: 1) Mason has more game experience than Shanbour. Yes, Shanbour has been around longer, but Mason actually has real game experience which counts for a lot. 2) Mason has more eligibility left than Shanbour, it's more important to get him experience than Shanbour. 3) I think Mason has a higher ceiling than Shanbour because Mason was able to put up a decent season as a true freshman while Shanbour has only played in one game his entire collegiate career, showing staffs think he just isn't ready yet, and if he's not ready now then when? 4) Mason has the trust of the team where as Shanbour does not. Example: Hambone thinks Mason is going to be the starter and he believes Mason can win. That means a lot to me and it means a lot for team confidence. What say you, members of the board?

Are scrimmages open to the public? If so, is anyone going to the scrimmages?

My thoughts exactly. 😂

Fun Little Side Note: The nicknames for our #2 rival (UTSA) are: nUTSAck & UTKFC.

Don't have to directly ask, could ask if they are looking for anymore late additions to the class.
-
@Brett Vito Maybe ask SL if he's considering this guy?
