Over/Under win totals for each C-USA team
AustinFromUNT replied to @UNTSportsFan's topic in Mean Green Football
Conference O/U averages 1) SEC (7.29) 2) B1G (6.89) 3) ACC (6.86) 4) Big-12 (6.85) 5) PAC-12 (6.54) 6) AAC & MWC (6.08) 8 Sunbelt (5.85) 9) C-USA (5.82) 10) MAC (5.67) Crazy that we have a lower average O/U than the Sunbelt. -
Conference-USA Standings According to ESPN’s FPI
AustinFromUNT posted a topic in Mean Green Football
The following analysis is based on numbers & percentages provided by ESPN per their FPI measure. A win is considered as being given a 55.0% chance or better of winning a game. A loss is considered as being given a 45.0% chance or worse of winning a game. A tossup is considered as being given a 45.1-54.9% chance of winning a game. For ranking divisions, wins will be worth 1.0 points and tossups will be worth 0.5 points, with a total score of 8 meaning that all conference games were won. Parentheses will be in the following order (wins-losses-tossups). The first set of parentheses will be overall record, second set will be conference record, and the third will be divisional points. East Division: 1) Marshall (10-2-0) (8-0-0) (8) 2) MTSU (7-4-1) (6-1-1) (6.5) 3) FAU (7-3-2) (5-1-2) (6) 4) WKU (5-6-1) (3-4-1) (3.5) 5) ODU (3-6-3) (2-5-1) (2.5) 6) FIU (2-9-1) (1-6-1) (1.5) 6) Charlotte (1-8-3) (0-5-3) (1.5) West Division 1) UNT (8-1-3) (5-0-3) (6.5) 1) LA Tech (8-3-1) (6-1-1) (6.5) 3) UAB (7-3-1) (5-3-0) (5) 4) Southern Miss (5-6-1) (4-4-0) (4) 5) UTSA (4-8-0) (3-5-0) (3) 6) Rice (2-11-0) (1-7-0) (1) 7) UTEP (0-11-1) (0-8-0) (0) Of note is that LA Tech @ UNT is currently a tossup (50.6-49.4), so a true #1 can not yet be decided in C-USA’s west division. -
This class is shaping up really well. 3*(.8466) RB Garrison Johnson 3*(.8199) WR Damon Ward 3*(.8004) QB Logan Holgorsen (supposedly he has decommited but I haven’t seen anything official yet on this. If so he will likely be replaced by 3*(.8316) QB Chase Griffin) We currently have the #2 class in C-USA, only behind Southern Miss who has 1 more commit than us. We are averaging a rating of .8223 right now which will increase even further if we replace Holgorsen with Griffin

Peak Off-Season Thread: I’m really liking UNT’s future OOC schedule, here’s how it looks. 2018: Vs SMU Vs Incarnate Word @ Arkansas @ Liberty 2019: Vs Abilene Christian @ SMU @ Cal Vs Houston 2020: Vs SMU @ Texas A&M Vs Houston Baptist @ Houston 2021: Vs Rhode Island @ SMU @ Missouri Vs Liberty 2022: Vs Stephen F Austin Vs Cal @ Memphis Vs SMU 2023: @ SMU Vs Memphis Vs Wyoming Need 1 more away game 2024: @ South Alabama Vs SMU @ Texas Tech Need 1 more home game 2025: @ Wisconsin @ Army (Supposedly cancelled but still on the list) Vs South Alabama @SMU 2026: @ Wyoming Need 2 more home games and 1 away game 2027: Vs Texas Tech Vs Army (probably cancelled with @ Army) Need 2 away games (and likely 1 home game). What do y’all think of our current OOC schedule? Who would y’all like to see added? Also of note is that Wren hasn’t added any FCS or “body bag games” but instead is trying to get 1 and 1s with upper G5 to lower P5 teams.

If I’m not mistaken around .8965 is where a 3* becomes a 4* -

We wanted to, but with about a minute left in the game they brought over 5 cops and about 10 event staff to form a line to keep us from rushing.

I’ll for sure be there. Does anyone know what all is planned for tomorrow for the game? Also, is anyone planning on tailgating before the game?
-
It was. Strawberry was talking to my friend I brought to the game. He hadn’t been to a game in a couple of years, but said he had so much fun Monday night that he is coming with me again tonight.

I was at the game. Right behind Mercer’s bench. A woman from Mercer tapped me on the shoulder towards the end of the game and she said “You know what’s better than a good band and a good team? Good fans and honestly you’re a jerk and a joke!” I didn’t swear during the game, I didn’t use any racial slurs, and I didn’t use any homophobic slurs. Just some good old quality heckling such as calling a player wearing a headband “Semi-Pro”. I personally don’t mind other fans saying that, but if that woman thinks I’m a “bad fan” she should never be around any students who go to a P5 school or even a G5 with a strong student support.

Loyola with a crazy last second win over Miami!!!!!! -
“Lawrence is one of the best possession men in the country. Of the 92 FBS players targeted at least 85 times last year, his plus-24.5 percent marginal efficiency was the best.” Amazing!

I am currently a junior so here is my honest perspective: Freshman Year: I was really excited to watch basketball after football had been really disappointing. My first game I went to we got blown out by 30ish points and became really discouraged. I went to about 35-40% of the games that season and was consistently disappointed. Sophomore Year: BAD! I went to maybe 50% of the games, even though it was absolutely terrible. I was just so upset that we would lose every game that I was like what’s the point. Junior Year (This Year): We hired McCasland so I was really optimistic. We lost some games that we really shouldn’t have but I was still excited. I’ve been to about 65% of the home games this season, usually sitting in different places. Realisitcally, we need to be a good team in order to get more students to show up. I’m on the board, so I obviously care about UNT sports and even I can only bring myself to about 65-75% of the games. BTW: I haven’t missed a single home football game in 3 seasons, so I really do care.

I think we really need to sell the fact that voting yes means an additional $100,000 for clubs and organizations. -
To me, Recruiting is a 2 part process. The first part is actually getting athletes. These athletes have a natural ability range. This to me, is what is shown on recruiting sites such as 247. This basically says that a 3* has a greater natural window of ability than a 2*, though obviously the system isn’t perfect. The 2nd part is how well the coaches can actually “coach” the kids. This is basically the efficiency and ability of coaches to help that kid land towards the top of his natural ability range. For Example: Say a school picks up a 2* DB with a 247 composite rating of .7900. The way I evaluate how this kid will turn out is divide that number in half. Then I look at the coaching staff for the DC & the position coach and assign them a training/coaching rating. Let’s say the DB coach has produced a couple of all conference (whether 1st or 2nd team) DBs in a couple years here, but the DC has been lackluster. I would give that staff a rating of .8300. I then divide that number in half. I take the 2 halfed numbers and add them together. That means, the athlete would likely end up around the .8100 range (a 3* rating). Another Example: .8100 Recruit, .7800 staff = .7950 rating, borderline 3* player. This isn’t to say that Recruiting can’t be better, because obviously I want it to. I would love for us to have a class of all 3 & 4 star players. I do realize though, that when we hired a coach we hired an Xs & Os not a Jimmies & Joes guy. This all goes to say that while our class rating may be lower than other schools, when you consider what the coaches can do with the talent we have, we would probably be in the top 4 for our conference for making gains as a team.

Storylines for C-USA heading into national signing day
AustinFromUNT replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
If you take out the blueshirt kids, this class averages a rating of .8011. That’s good for a 3* ranking. That only puts us in 8th for average though, whereas last year that would have been 5th and 2 years ago that would have been 4th. So our recruiting is without a doubt improving, but C-USA as a whole is also improving its recruiting.
