DRC: Updated Littrell presser news, notes
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
@Brett Vito is the IPF as well having ground broken for the IPF? I was aware of the Soccer/Track but not the IPF as well.. -
http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/mean-green/2017/10/24/littrell-presser-takeaways-notes-unt-got-cocky-fau-loss Vito says they are breaking ground for the IPF on saturday? I thought they were breaking ground for the Soccer/Track on Saturday?
-
You mean the Doug Meacham who is trying to hide out sitting on the stairs?
-
WB said they would have 3/4 years.. I would think after the Soccer/Track Stadium and the IPF.. They have updated the Tennis complex, Swimming is swimming, and volleyball seems to have a nice area.. So I would think its either then baseball or setting up something for the superpit.. Where would the baseball field even go is my question?
-
Why would they put it in that location that you drive by it? how many fans walk by it? Hope they have multiple up and around the bridge and the tailgating area

For this season, the UTSA can should be viewed as a "solid" game.. Yes, UTSA had problems on 3rd down, but again how many long runs did Strum have? How many long plays did we give up? While we can try and find bits of data to prove our points, the overall game on defense vs UTSA was solid... We can say oh EJ came in and corrected what NB had problems with.. That was an All-CUSA DB that had to be benched.. Thank god he came in and filled some void that was NB since we again only won by 3 on a last second FG.. We can say that FAU doesn't erase what happened earlier in the year, but this is not a 1 time thing.. This happened vs SMU.. 2 entire games that UNT has been flat out beaten down.. They also go schooled vs Iowa in the 4th, USM in the 1st, and UAB in the 2nd half.. The defense has been solid AT times but it has been more often than not the weakest of the 3 phrases, which is saying alot with people wanting Biagi fired even though he is in Year 1... Again, I have repeated this over and over and this is beating a dead horse throughout this thread.. The defense carried this team last year.. This year it carrying down this team.. It has had some nice games, but then it has also been HISTORICALLY bad... The toughest series of games is over.. Reff and this defense need to grow a spine like they did vs Iowa for the 1st half, like what they did vs USM in the 2nd.. And do that for entire games vs ODU, UTEP, Rice.. I'm sorry but if we only give up 26 to UTSA, we need to hold Rice, UTEP to 14 or less... Reff needs to be on the hotseat and if he can not perform then he needs to be replaced.. This team will only go as far as this offense can take it, and thankfully the remaining games it does not appear that anyone can/should stop this offense.

1- it wasn’t Darden it was Johnson, no biggie.. It was luck because they had not done anything the weeks leading up to it, and a # of people saying fire MB, but yet ST has laid how many crap performances? Remember it’s Year 1 of the ST system.. also that was game 1 of the walk on LS as well.. 2- The incomplete pass to Rico was not luck, because it did not do anything.. Are we lucky when we don’t win the lotto? Or are we lucky when we DO win the lotto? Again the pass to Lawerence was Luck, you can think it was destiny or because of practice but Fine said it was luck. You say give it time, we have other schools fire coaches that were brought in at same time as Ref... Ref and his defense looked like Rookie mode, and gave up a Conference record and you want to say “give it time”.. when is time up? Dear lord it’s been 2 blow outs this year, multiple last year.. Yes no one showed up but atleast the offense did something, the defense did not.. Hell ST even did stuff.. It is necessary but saying UAB and UTSA were solid performances is wrong.. the defense buckled vs UAB, and it was it was solid but yet the offense struggled.. UNT regularly has 1 unit under perform and it has usually been the defense with the offense doing the heavy lifting..
-
The completion to Lawerence was nothing but luck.. Fine even said that himself on the coaches show, saying he was going to throw it no matter what.. Heck they tried the same play the play before and Rico was out of bounds.. Again, I have said they outcoached USM in the 2nd half... because we were losing at half... We have lucked ourselves into it.. Just like how UTSA was lucked into 2 loses vs USM and UTSA by 5 points in the final minutes.. We got the ball to bounce our way by us getting the ball late.. Again we are a missed FG away from going to OT vs UAB, who had figured it out on defense.. UTSA they had this offenses number as well.. we could easily be 2-5 if it was not for the UAB/UTSA last second scores.. Yes we have crapped the bed, allowing historic days.. Sutton 4 TDs.. FAU set a CUSA record which is saying alot for a conference that has had many top offenses (Last year they had multiple in the top 15)... This defense has been terrible and saying its only been bad in 2 games is dumb since we have 3 loses.. They played like trash at SMU and FAU.. They played terrible vs a UAB allowing 43 points, remember UAB was supposed to be an easy W.. The Iowa game they played solid but still gave up 31... Its really sad that we view 31 as a solid defensive game vs a running team and our defensive strength is stopping the run... Way more benefit of the doubt? I was posted before UAB that we should not overlook them, I said before UTSA that we need to focus in for the next month of critical games and yet the team overlooks and gives up a historic day to FAU, we better hope to god the FAU does not carry over and lose to ODU.. Yes UNT faced 3 of the 4 tough teams in the west and went 3-0, but they have not faced what was viewed as the class of the west in LAT.. They still gave up 43 to UAB, the defense grew a spin and allowed the offense to take a hold of USM and UTSA again, the defense got lucky after giving up the passing TD to the RB (which lucky left enough time for 2 UNT drives)... This defense made FAU look like a damn Madden game on rookie mode.. Yes we got the Ws vs USM, UAB, UTSA but still does not change the fact that we have had 2 abortions of games vs FAU and SMU.. Again, a W is a W and we all will take 8-4 and the West bid (if it happens) but this defense is terrible. Reff has more of his guys and the defense has gotten worse.. Reff has more time in the systeam and it got worse.. Hell he has our all-conference CB on the bench and our all-conference S looking completely lost out there.. This defense needs to show some improvement over ODU, Army, Rice, UTEP, and it can't be much easier than that.. The tough part of the sch. is done and we have no excuses for crap performances its time to shut down the teams at the bottom of the conference and prove to the fans, recruits, etc that this is real..
-
I believe it is as an OL, one of his UNT graphic retweets was of him and the different position groups were listed and OL was circled.. His DL tap looked good and would be encouraged to see him flip sides, with the # of DL we have leaving soon
-
I could be wrong, but I want to say they took the wifes to the Army game last year... I wanna say WB had posted up some pics of them at West Point but I could be wrong.. If it was West Point its 1-1.. With it being 1 blow out for and against us..
-
The KR vs UAB, was luck getting it to mid-field, when people here have said the ST sucks.. The Lawerence pass again, luck.. A guy jumped a fraction early and Lawrence gave him a slight shove too.. That is luck.. Just like it was luck that UTSA punted and it was downed at our 2, and did not roll into the endzone.. How is luck forcing them to punt? no the defense made a stand (one of the few this season) and lucky enough they punted instead of go for it, which was a smart move since they were around the 30-40 of UNT, why go for it on 4th and get stuffed or throw a incomplete or not get the first down and give UNT even better field position??? When you can put it and if it's a touchback, they still have to go 80 for a TD.. The defense has regressed from last year, when the defense won us games because of turnovers and holding ALOT more than it has this year... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They have 80 players on scholarship, so they are 5 short.. then you have guys like Lawerence who is a POW that is out-performing scholarship guys.. So this whole they are 5 short doesn't make any real sense.. Injuries are something that happen, They have shifted the DL around and it has not been the problem, if anything it has been the best position group on the entire defense.. Again, if they don't like McDonald at LB they have other options, they can use Fulp at any time (but they have not), Lemaster, etc... but they do like the former safety now LB...
-
Agreed, don’t think it should be a problem.. I’m going to guess it didn’t affect the coaches, but again this is just my gut/hope. I’m assuming it didn’t change the normal travel schedule or anything, and if it did it’s pretty dumb. Again this team was not in the right mindset and did not want to play a game that was important to both teams..
-
You can only hope and it should be be the likely outcome with us facing the UTEP, Rice, Army of the conference but we have already had 2 crap performances on defense in FAU and SMU
-
We did not outcoach UTSA or UAB... I'm sorry.. All that it was, was we got 1 extra drive and they did not... You can pull your hair out, but if it was our defense in the situations we had UAB and UTSA in, they likely could have moved the ball.. I mean do you honestly trust this defense to make a stand, heck they did vs UTSA till UTSA decided to punt it on 4th and short.. USM we outcoached them in the 2nd half.. Yes this offense will set records, but FAU set A CUSA RECORD... Not just a FAU record, but a conference... Yes this defense made FAU look better than they actually are, no one has fought that.. The point is this was CUSA record for total yardage given up, and UNT is lucky that FAU did not keep going.. I'm sorry but that alone has to put Reff on the hot seat on top of the subpar performances vs UAB, and SMU... Reff needs to go out and shut down and dominate UTEP and Rice to just even it out.. Even then we should shut down and dominate UTEP and Rice... Yes UNT had 1 good Qtr vs UTSA, 2 vs USM and 3 vs Iowa, hell you can include the 4 vs Lamar (even though Lamar was not ready to play), and the 1st half vs UAB... This defense was trash for 4 Qtrs vs SMU and FAU, 2 vs USM, and 2 Qtrs vs UAB... Again it was luck that UNT got the final drives vs UAB and UTSA... That is why its a bailing out the defense, because the defense was NOT getting the job done late.. This defense has been worse more than it has been good... The idea that they don't have enough players is dumb.. How many timeouts did SL call to rest his guys vs FAU? The coaches will not say they don't trust anyone, but we as fans can assume that.. If the guys you have do not fit your scheme, you change it..
-
The ODU game was on CBSSN and on Friday Night.. Maybe its up on the C-USA site or youtube?
-
Fine, Guyton, Rico, Lawerence, Henson, Mayfield and the rotation at C is 1/2 SL/GH guys.. I will split Rico/Smiley with the Center for 1 total new guy.. That is 6 guys on offense which is more than half of them being SL guys.. McDonald, EJ, Wheeler, Hall, Jenkins, Khari.. again 6 guys on defense with it not including Hambone who should be... Both sides of the ball are more than half SL/GH/TR guys.. the logic that most is not stupid... Again... if you look at the games compared to this year and last year.. This year is games are better than the teams we faced.. So yes its surprising that we are 4-3.. But again the defense has been BAILED OUT repeatedly.. We could be 2-5 if it were not for special teams vs UAB on the KR and GW FG, and "The Drive".. 2 minutes changed our season just like how UTSA was 0-2 in conference by a combine 5 points or something along those lines when they played USM and UNT.. All of us, even Ben would be happy with 8-4 and clinching the west.. But giving up C-USA conference records is bad.. We can understand laying an egg vs SMU even if we don't like it.. But FAU WAS BAD... We talk that this defense is only in season 2 of the system.. FAU is in season 1, what games 7? FAU is in year 1 of its systems (games 7) and they are setting CUSA records for total offense in a game.. We are in year 2 of Reff
-
Softer schedule really? We played UF compared to Iowa.. We played BC vs a Lamar team this year that only practiced a few times leading up the game.. We played a down marshall team similar to ODU, WKU which is like FAU, and MTSU instead of UAB... Sure the LB corp is deeper, but they were happy with what they had.. Last year they had enough players, but this year they don't? This is year 2... A number of Reff guys are playing... McDonald, EJ, Hall, Jenkins, Khari... that is nearly 1/2 the defense.. the logic that he doesn't have his "guys" is funny..
-
Patience.. Dude they get paid to fix this stuff.. The players have been in this system for over a year now... Last year the defense was in the 60s/70s.. and now 109.. How does patience explain this? They have had more team in this defense.. Remember EK and Reff were both new last year, and EK was calling a scheme/system he had never been in before and got us to that ranking.. They, the players, have been in this system longer than a season and a half.. This is semester 4 for them in this offense and defense.. They are not breaking in freshman or sophomores on this defense.. Khari and Hambone are the youngest, and they are 2 of the better players on all of the defense.. Reffs job is the put the 11 best out there, and with that being said.. If the guys from the past coaching staff do not fit your scheme why are they out there? You recruited Hall, Jenkins but yet Jenkins started on the bench?
-
The defense last year was in the 60s in ranking, while not great... This years defense is terrible with it being 109 and nearly twice the ranking of this current defense..
-
It wasn't 1 game for UNT... SMU, FAU just this year through 7 games... Last year it was WKU, UTSA, UTEP, MTSU that were blowout, or blowouts and then all of the sudden the offense moves the ball and scores 1 or 2 times late to go from losing by 3/4 scores to 2...
-
While all of us would be happy with 8-4 and the CUSA west... the defense has regressed.. Our 2 best defensive players (Brooks and McClain) are either on the bench because they got burned for weeks and McClain is not playing to the standard he played at last year.. The defense heck even regressed last year after playing Army... This is not just a 1 bad game, this was one game that looked like a damn walk-through.. The FAU RBs running over LBs everytime, the secondary getting burned, how many long TD runs did FAU have and NO ONE touch the guy, how many missed tackles did we have? We can say how they were tired but yet not one player called a Timeout, players can call time outs not just SL, hell they can fake a damn cramp if anything... The defense gave up what, 38 straight points to SMU? They gave 43 to UAB.. They got walked over by USM in the first half, then grew a spine in the 2nd.. UTSA yes they allowed 26 points, but how many 3rd and long did they give up, how many QB runs did they give up? FAU they gave up something like 11 straight scoring drives... Dear lord, get off the hype train for Reff... This game alone nearly increased the PPG allow by 5, thats nearly a TOUCHDOWN.. The defense has been horrible.. This defense everyone said was more aggressive but yet we are not getting the turnovers.. Reff has the remaining games to prove this defense can work, and lets hope he can vs the likes of Army, UTEP, Rice, and ODU (who has a freshman 17 yr old QB)... They won championships because they were they the top seed in the BIG12 with no championship game.. So with us comparing UNT to Baylor that title would go to either Marshall or FAU... not UNT.. Also, how did that Baylor team fair vs UCF and Blake Bortles?
-
The sad thing is this isn’t the 1st blow out this year.. SMU was Last year we had UTSA (which similar to SMU we moved it late to close the gap), WKU, and UTEP.. Also, I have to go back but wasn’t MTSU a blow out, that was when we had a solid first drive, and last 2 drives and between that it was a dumpster fire?

Quotes from players - no energy, no excitement
BTG_Fan1 replied to Big E's topic in Mean Green Football
If you're a player and tired sub yourself out, if you can't get off in time.. Fake a cramp, or call a Time out.. UNT used 0 timeouts yesterday... I mean are the players not aware of these things? How can they be tired after the first series? The idea that we were worn down after 1 series, is either just another excuse or piss poor strength and conditioning.. Yes this offense has done this to a number of teams, meaning that they (the staff) should have been well aware of it. The point of all this is.. 1- the players did not care, if they did care.. they showed it in a terrible way...Missed tackles, not helping up each other, and making FAU look like Alabama is an embarrassment.. 2- They were overconfident, which hey they should have a chip on their shoulder because they beat a team many people were high on in UTSA, but again you can not overlook someone and they overlooked FAU by looking back and living off the "NewDenton" hype.. UNT has not earned the right to overlook and take anyone for granted. 3- They were not in the right in the right mindset, if it was from the wives coming and changing the planning (which I doubt, because the coaches im assuming spent time with there wifes during the players study/free time that I assume they would normally have) to the Pool-party and them thinking they had made it because of the past few weeks.. These things while major just add to appearance of it not being a business trip. Yes we as a fan base need a palate cleansing, but that is mostly geared towards the defense and honestly I do not think the defense is capable of doing that.. They are not forcing any turnovers and are giving up yardage to everyone.. We are giving up a whooping 37.85 points per game, with us averaging 36.28 on offfense, that FAU game alone increased PPG 5 points.. -
I know that this did not happen, but if Fine had gone out and gets injured is it worth those extra 10/15 snaps? What if he had been injured and was going to miss 3/4 weeks? That means he misses LAT and possibly Army.. That means we are down to 1 QB with actual game experience in Quinn who had 1 drive vs WKU (last year), 1 drive (2 plays) vs Iowa, and 2 or 3 series vs Lamar.. Mason was already banged up from before the bye week, and had been hit ALOT vs UTSA, and in that game.. Give the kid a breather.. Let Quinn come in and play.. Heck if they were that worried about allowing him to get experience, why did he come out vs Lamar? I get the point but the staff can not sale me on they left in the offense or defense for experience.. because they get the vast # of the reps during the week and games.. You can't sale me on the positives (of playing young guys) because I did not see guys them go deep into the WR pool, nor did I see the likes of T.Davis, Sanders, Johnson, Tony K that are true-freshman playing on defense..Heck they even had Tucker running the ball late and he is a RS SR..
