The defense has at times been better than its ranking, and others it has been its ranking.. Just like how the offense has been solid then will go long stretches of it disappearing looking like a worse ranked offense.. You want to be critical of people who were critical of this team after FAU but missed the point.. I don’t recall anyone saying fire GH or replace GH, it was replace/fire the guy who gave up a Conference WORST performance on defense.. Yes the defense stepped up and I’m glad they did.. Now it’s time for them to keep playing like this, yes even vs LAT if you want to impress people.. We have been fooled twice now (SMU/FAU) and that isn’t factoring in last years games Mason played well in games his freshman year, but had other games he didn’t play well..

He got banged up vs FAU and SL said that post FAU and why he didn’t play much.. ODU the same thing that hampered him vs FAU flared up again

Then why didn’t you make a thread about the Defensive ranking to talk about the improvement?

Yes he will in the future, but we played him yesterday.. So How does his play in 3 years deal with the defensive performance yesterday?

Who has been critical of the offense? It has far exceed likely everyone’s expectations and has been the best of the 3 units.. The defense has regressed this year.. Yes they had a solid performance vs ODU, but they should have.. Its a 17-year old true Freshman that is a better runner than Passing QB.. heck the defense did what I had wanted to see it do, but that still does not change the FAU game.. it just shows that this defense can lock it in and do a task when it’s challenged.. Reff and this defense has to do this vs UTEP, Rice, and Army..

When did I say I was never happy with this commitment/ questioned the commitment or blame any coaches (I’ve been far to long on the coaches/system fit side and still believe it’s critical to find kids who fit our schemes)?? Never did, and asking if anyone know of still valid/invalid offers now is no biggie nor a strike against the kid..Get over yourself.. Solid addition and happy he is committed to UNT

They said it was a mutual thing.. It has been said that G5 coaches do not like to stick in 1 spot for to long because it doesn't show progress.. So it would make sense that TP asked to leave.. TP was 1 of 2 coaches SL kept from the Mac Staff, and I don't think SL had any issues with TP.. Also the addition of Coach Choice likely may have put some writing on the wall as well for TP.. But I would think that TP would like to get bigger jobs like OC and that down the line, but having 5-6 years as an RB coach at UNT that has many losing years likely doesn't make you appealing for bigger jobs..

We need to watch UAB these final weeks... I know they play UTEP, Rice, and Charlotte this year.. But they could make a run late if we have any issues..

I think the fumbling (likely) had some impact as well.. But Wilson got banged up and I think this was the same spot/bruise so instead of forcing it may it was meant to be a lesson/recover game...

True it would have.. But they turned in a good performance and they need to keep it up

The defense held them under 400 yards (386) and forced some turnovers.. and only allowed 24 points.. Not great but a huge improved from them normally allowing 35+ like they had allowed... ST needs to be cleaned back up...

I'd say Khari, but both are solid choices.. Also, Wheeler had a big bag on ice on his knee... Did the broadcast (if anyone listened to it) say what it was? I know WIlson was out because of a bruise

Not sure if you are have the information/knowledge but I'll ask because its about all 3 Safety's that we have committed.. Do you have any idea who will play what spots?

I had put in my prediction that I wanted a UNT win something along the lines of 40+ to 20... With UNTs defense holding ODU to under 400 (and ideally 300) yards and get 3 TOs via INT/FF.. While the defense gave up 24 points, they gave up 386 total yards and forced exactly 3 TOs (2 via INT, 1 via FF).. Yes it was not a great game on defense with a # of simple and easy to pick out ODU calls that UNT gave up, it was a huge improvement from FAU.. Lets hope they can be a bit more relaxed and play with another chip on their should next week vs LAT.. LAT is the toughest game left and if we get the W it should (fingers crossed) nearly lock up the West with this still having to perform down the road. The defense needs to keep doing this vs the likes of UTEP, Rice and Army.. UNT lost the time of possession 32:19 to 27:41, and had some really stupid mental lapses for the Personal Foul calls.. Really Rico? Yes it was a little shove and the guy flopped, but come on.. No idea what Hambone did and missed what Murray did, but Murray dude Nic Smith is 60/70 yards away for a TD (bottle it up till the next drive)... The ST disappointed but did have a few nice highlights and thankfully it didn't cost us the game.. While the score doesn't show it, the defense did what I had wished/wanted... Also, it seemed at times that UNT did the hurry up on some short yardage plays as well.

A question I will throw out there.. While I understand that getting someone like McClain or some other starter out there for KR over xyz backup.. You have to wonder is this KO Coverage stuff messing with them in terms of studying/game prep on defense and having guys like McClain not going 100% because of possible injuries... The defense has regressed.. We can make excuses of us playing more Man to Man and blitzing leading to us getting burned, but yet as the DC he should realize he doesn't have the guys to get to the QB and go back to the playcalling of last year.. Also, while the defense looked bad at times tonight they did produce multiple turnovers in terms of INTs and FF, which is a great sign of improvement. Reff needs to lock it down vs UTEP, Rice and Army...

Again, the post about Biagi being in Year 1 was to mock the people defending Reff being in Year 2 of his defense (after the FAU game), but yet people have called for the head of Biagi.. We are on the same side when it comes to who should stay and go in terms of the DC/ST jobs...

They ran Reffs defense last year, with Ek calling the plays... So they are in Season 2 of ref...

Never said that it was relevant irrelevant.. I asked because its a legitimate question which likely we won't find out but something to be asked.. The offer list is impressive, and glad to have him.. But is this a Bean thing that we are the last school standing?

I know it’s a cop out, just like the cop out of Reff only being in season 2 that people gave last week after the blowout.. I just think it’s funny people bag on Biagi (when his unit has struggled as much as the defense) but yet defense Reff.. ST was terrible tonite and nearly cost us that game..

Remember it’s year 1 of Biagi.. he needs time for his systems just like Reff
