I get the point that no one know what to expect, but its very worrisome when we have a former P5 WR in Guyton and he is locked up 1 on 1 vs a True FR CB and we barely go at that match up like we had vs LT. I do agree the future is bright, but I'm hoping we can maintain this winning and improve it in terms of going from single digits to double digits. I'm also hoping this is one of those years we win alot of games because of the number of experienced guys we have then after they leave we go crashing down to earth after they graduate. CUSA is won by QB play, and we currently have one of the better/best in CUSA right now. It's really scary to think if this defense was even just in the mid-70s/80s instead of 109 what our season be looking like and recruiting-wise.

Faired pretty well vs Iowa for 3 Qtrs... Don't think Western Michigan has the guys upfront to wear down our DL like Iowa did...
-
Really wish they could find a way to cover the drive way area from AD center to where the present day scoreboard is. The weight-room is literally right behind the patio area and would allow for the weight-room to be expanded, with the new covered area allowing for seating/standing room only closer to the field at an elevated level.. (Hopefully this makes sense)

Sweet then even better, give me Western Michigan over NIU... better odds of beating them and selling recruits on beating a team that played in the Cotton Bowl/New Years bowl the year before...

Red White and Blue Helmets for the Army Game
BTG_Fan1 replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm going to assume the answer is no, but I will ask it anyway... Has any of the new/current helmets been made into "mini" helmets to be bought at the team store? I'm going to email/tweet at WB to see if he can/could find a way for them to be become available.. feel like they could be a nice a little Christmas gift -
We don't get the coverage because we have lost for so many years. This is why after the USM, UTSA, etc we were tweeting at the local channels for more coverage than a quick 15-20 second clip of the game.. Multiple channels have reached out to SL for interviewed as well during the year. Another way to get coverage is to straight up beatdown programs, we can get single digit wins vs bigger programs than us like Iowa, SMU but not vs LT/UAB/ODU and think the local media will give us a bunch of air time. Yes we maybe the only program in Texas to get to a championship game, but it would have been an even bigger media event if it was going to be held here in Denton. Fans should be tweeting, calling in, etc to the radio and TV guys after Rice for them to talk about UNT in the championship game. UNT has a huge alumni base, tweet at them you want UNT stuff and when enough people do, we will get that coverage.

No idea how Northern Illinois is this year, but would like to play Western Michigan since they were in a big bowl last year.
-
Hell no... Lamar Jackson would have a field day vs us, and prices would be through the roof!
-
Why would the national media/coaches have a negative bias towards UNT? Because we have normally have 2 or 3 winning season a decade? This team can and should be able to put up points in the future just because of Mason's development, and props to Mason and GH for that. Mason alone also makes this job VERY attractive to other "air-raid" coaches if SL leaves. This team needs to go out and dish out some punishment to teams and then they will get respect, just like we did after USM.

Red White and Blue Helmets for the Army Game
BTG_Fan1 replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
my bad, i meant the eagle would have not fit with that helmet.. the green chrome whatever its called -
If FSU really wanted Jimbo gone, wouldn't they be more than willing to take a lower buyout if it meant he left for sure?
-
Which one? heard they will have multiple different WP organization at the game.

I was wondering the same thing.. Do you move Parish over and let him play RT then move him the follow year? Also, they potentially could have 2 RS-FR at RG/RT in Manase and Brammer/Parish. To me you go with Brammer at RT, but need to work in Parish often to get him up to game speed for once Murray leaves. Doubt moving Parish from LT to RT back to LT would hurt his development but would/could have a negative impact on Manase/Brammer since they have been practicing together for what would a year.

Some big names on there that will be leaving... McClain, Jenkins would be reduced if Brooks can play back at his normal level, Henson has been a solid piece as well of the OL, Wilson will be leave a major hole (even with smith performing well), Wheeler since we don't have a proven, Moore as well because of his consistence. Add in Flusche as well, I feel like he is someone that will be a big loss in the DL group because of his leadership/motivation. Mayfield as well because we have 0 idea what to expect out of the RT spot.

Red White and Blue Helmets for the Army Game
BTG_Fan1 replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
Great loooking, wish they could have found a way to do vs UTEP but know it likely would not have matched/gone well with the helmet that game. -
Our defentions of a "young" maybe different but to me, young is someone you will have for 2 years years or more after this current season. Khari and Hamilton are the only "young" guys who play a significant role and players we know what to expect out of them, the rest of them we have no 0 idea what to expect. Jenkins is the starter, and has been the starter since UTSA and even replaced Brooks in the 4th during UAB... Jenkins is not rotating through like they did last year with Davis and Jenkins, Jenkins and Hall are out there A LOT more than Brooks who touches the field sparingly on defense but is on the KO coverage unit. Yes Brooks started over Jenkins because of what appears to be an injury, but if it were not for that.. Brooks would not be out there. Baulkman yes does not play much, but he was the starter last year and likely has lost his spot to Preston because of the injury, and Preston will be a Sr. next year with the "younger" option Davis playing sparingly leaving us with no idea what to expect from Davis in the future (who likely should have been RSed for him to develop after moving from LB to S/Rover). Tillman won't be a major loss because of the rotation. English looked great, but again we have seen him in 1 game (2017 Spring game and he looked dominate). The idea that English would fill the Tillman role isn't likely because English would play a larger role-thus likely fill/replace Flusche in terms of rotation time with one of the FR like TonyK/Novil (no idea if spelling the FR name right) or even Reynolds filling in the 2/3rd way of the DL rotation. Yes this program is on the rise, but the difference is will we be having this "success" in next year with us losing major pieces of this defense in Flusche, Wheeler, McClain and Jenkins? or the year after as well when we maybe losing Preston, Brooks, Hall, Garner, EJ,,etc? We RSed an entire OL and we have heard they look great in practice, but that is totally different from a game. The current OL will only be losing 1 OL in Henson and potentially 2 if Mayfield is a SR and not a JR. We have no idea what to expect out his replacement or a potential RT in terms of actual in game production. Should we really feel comfortable with 2 potential RS-FR at RG and RT? To me ideally we are losing 2/3/4 guys each year from Offense/Defense that were starters and not 4/5/6 guys from each side of the ball and replacing them with guys who have had some actual playing time. When Fine is a SR. he needs to be out of games like USM/SMU/FAU and letting Person/Bean/Martin, whoever play so we do not have to go through the same errors later on. The difference between UNT and Bama is that they are replacing studs with experience with studs, UNT is replacing Studs with a 2* that has to be coached up (which the staff has done a great job of, but how long can you keep the streak alive beating the odds).. An example is we will be having is after McClain leaves this year, who is the replacement? Is it someone on the roster now in Sanders or Robinson? Is it Gibbs, Williams, Crosby who are in HS now? Either way those guys have very little if any playing time on the college level. Another reason why we need big W's like USM/UTEP is to give these "young" guys like Sanders/Davis/Johnson, etc playing time because they aren't getting to RS like the OL guys who are able to practice without losing any eligibility, they are losing eligibility by playing sparingly. A current example of who replaces who is Khari. Before this year, we played Dee, McClain and Gray so much last year, we had no idea if he could fill that role (which has filled it great in my opinion).. Heck we had 0 idea what to expect as fans from Fine before the season because he lost so many games, and had no pulled away from Quinn in Spring/Fall Camp. Sorry to everyone for the long drawn out message. It was mostly meant for @Venson

Losing 6/7 guys who are experienced and replacing them with younger inexperienced guys will likely not lead to this defense improving, but it likely will since we are 109 or whatever in the Nation since you can fall much farther. 6/7 guys is over half the defense leaving and they are likely the best at their respective position groups.. Flushe is one of the top on the DL, Wheeler has been One of the top LBs (between him and EJ, in my opinion) and McClain/Jenkins were 2 of the top guys to before the year and have stepped up as of late. Again on the 2-deep we are young, but not many of those “young” guys have a sufficient amount of reps for us to have a true idea of what to expect.. Hell, Hall someone who we did expect anything from beat out Jenkins who may have been the top CB last year and Brooks was benched because he was completely lost. The teams that are consistently good rotate in younger guys for them to play/gain experience because of the jump in the speed in the game. Having close games does not allow for young guys like Davis/Sanders/Johnson to get sufficient/meaningful reps because of the risk of them getting exposed.

A bad team in the MW, AAC would likely do better than UNT.. look at the recruiting as you say, also look at the quality of LT vs UNT...
-
Jenkins and Wheeler are leaving.. Brooks and Hall will be seniors, Garner/EJ will be seniors (McDonald maybe gone if he is a Sr. Or around if he is a Jr now).. Dee Baukman will be gone and Preston will be a Sr. The Dline will be losing Tillman as well.. my point about the defense being older is they have a lot of key guys who will be graduating this year or next, and the young guys we have little to no experience that will be replacing them.. A few young guys are playing (Hambone, TonyK, Noviel (I believe played vs UTEP), English if we can call him young.. LB no young guys outside of Jojo, and DB it’s just Khari but he will be a jr, with no other young guys playing almost at all..

It’s more affective to just build a new area. The Superpit is getting outdated and is having to be updated with thinks like ADA laws, etc.. Yes it is grandfathered in on somethings, but those are eventually going to have to be updated. Also, having it on the athletics side allows for more space on an already cramped UNT campus. The building of a new “Superpit” will allow for it to hopefully be used more (outside of B-ball and VBall) and for more events as well.

I get this team is young because of the younger guys on the 2-deep, but this defense is older , the ST is older, and the OL is older.. The only real noticeable young group is the skilled position.I have no idea the ages of the FAU guys, but it has been said that most of LK guys aren't playing... They are winning games big and that is why they are climbing and now looking to be the class of CUSA after the success of LT and WKU for years.

So next week....8-2 Army on the way
BTG_Fan1 replied to TheColonyEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
On a mission for us to expect and want more than a 1,3, 7 point wins vs back ups, comeback program, and a 2-5 team when we played them...
