I do like the additions on offense... I would like to add another Transfer OT and possibly WR(since our WRs seem very young). But I think Defense is something we need to look at. We didn't play well down the stretch and lost a lot of our starting talent and a lot of important guys in Scott, Gray, Combs, Davis(even if he was a 3rd CB), and even Hood as well. I'd like to see another DB, LB, or even DL..

good to know thanks :)

From what has been posted here we ended up with 5 BS.. Most with Thomas, O'Hara, Jackson, Hood, Wyche and Jenkins counting. I'm sure that they will find ways to cut down the list from 7.. Some of the kids they we think that could be BS most likely PWO like Pirtle was.. I could see Greieser most likely being like that.. my only question is if we don't find 2 guys that like we like that would count vs the 2017 can we move a BS to a current offer?(I'm assuming this could be done by given him a scholarship before camp even starts?)
-
The school never tweeted out that the signing of McGheee.. just like how they didn't tweet out King, Roberts, Tibbs, Spoon, or Greser.. I'm not sure what BS players sign but all of them including Izzy "signed." It maybe a LOI but probably not with them not posting anything by now

Which signee are you most excited about and why?

Here is a question...Is T.Davis going to be a kid that is like Fine last year that calms or brings some energy to this defense to step it up? -
No they didn't So that would leave us with 2 spots I believe... With McGhee, TIbbs, Spoon, Izzy(?), King, Gieser(?), Roberts, are the BS off the top of my head

Could we have someone replace or have Barnett prepare a bit more? messing up names, positions, etc... Also, about English possibly playing some offense... would love to see English do this... the D-Tackle does a Tebow Jump pass TD -
Compare Fine to Mullen Frosh year.....
BTG_Fan1 replied to MeanGreen_MBA's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm assuming it would be, but it would make sense as well for schools to declare RS as well. -
The difference is that you improve and move up... Look at what TCU has done... they won, and improved in recruiting and moved up conferences.. Also, it brings in better talent and improves the image of the school and makes UNT which is a great school, a school that people out of state know of more. Also, would love the OL to be that 3* from RoundRock if he didn't sign anywhere, but I'm guessing it would be a JUCO OT?

Compare Fine to Mullen Frosh year.....

We can say SL desires that, but at times last year he seemed to stick with Fine to long, and he pulled Morris way to quick. That is the only problem that I had in terms of SL.. He talked about rotating QBs at times to get them a break or get them out of a rout, but that never happened with Fine... What is somewhat upsetting is how well Morris played at times like the HoD, somewhat vs SM, and even SMU he had a good game( with the WRs to blame for 1 or 2 of the INTs.) This job should be a week to week job till someone takes a hold of it.. Pearson, Izzy, Fine, Quinn, Carson, O'Hara should come in here Day 1 with the chance to win it.. I would prefer that Izzy, Pearson, or Fine wins it but let the best man win. Once we have someone who can come in put together 3-4 solid games in a row then maybe we got something... Pearson has the accuracy we all need and the size it seems like, Izzy it's reported is a Dual-Threat QB, and Fine everyone just loves the energy and drive for the game... I know that's off topic from your post, but its more about the logic and how all of us need to now expect more successful production and not garbage time production.. SL said that before Fine came in vs SMU, he went over and asked Fine if he was ready to go in, and if he was okay burning his RS... I'm assuming that there is a way for UNT to claim he was never RSed? or a way to replace the RS since it didn't even last a game.. but if not he already burned his RS, I believe Pirtle and he is still around. -
I could be wrong but thought it was said he was a 2-2, and I'm not sure JUCO can do medical but would be great if they can/could get another year.. Also, Baylor did at 1 time had some interest in him.
-
He is a PWO right now, and that's why he wasn't mentioned yesterday.. I believe Izzy has said that he should be on scholarship in the fall.. Not sure if that is a way for him to earn it or if it a locked in BS offer. Morris did get shafted but the whole team didn't play well vs SMU and it sucked that Morris had that done to him. Also, as I have said before Morris was the leading pass for 3 or 4 weeks after only playing 3 Qtrs vs SMU.. he played well vs Southern Miss and played great vs Army. The defense did not help him or did the OL at times in the HoD. Also, We all should hope that Fine is the worst QB we bring in.. that means we are bringing in more talent every single year. He was injuried and limited playing time left.. Schools most likely don't wanna bring in a JUCO that is a 2-2 if he may miss some time next year..

While he did have a good year, the stats were highly impacted with garbage time stats... yes he played well, but he didn't do much to lock up the job for next season. We all love the kid, but he needs to improve a lot and some of that is on the WR and OL but some is also on him.. Throw the ball away and keep it at 2nd and 10.. not 2nd and 16 because of a sack. -
Grade the Littrell Hire V5 (First Full NSD)
BTG_Fan1 replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
I was between a B-,B but that is mostly because he took a team that got blown out by a D2 to a bowl in his first year. He did this with a entirely new offense and defense, and without his best offensive player late in the year.. Yes the record of 2-5 is terrible after the high hopes that we had for the Army game. But playing LAT solid at home during Homecoming after last years massacre, was a positive.. But to get ran out of the house by UTSA, WKU, UTEP was a major disappointment, but then they put on a solid offense showing VS Army in the HoD(defense didn't play well at all).. While this class isn't as highly ranked as the 2016 class, I do expect us to bring in hopefully another 2 or 3 guys.. At this time last year Jenkins, I believe had signed with Cinny but then got released and we signed him during the summer.. Adding a couple of guys like that would and will help the "ranking" of the class but as of now the best I could do is a B. I would have to say while this wasn't the sexiest NSD, it was a NSD that should be a building block.. All those years the Cowboys picked OL it wasn't the sexiest draft classes, and that is how I view this class. Its a class that added a lot of beef and size and depth.. This OL was the weakest part of the team, and they addressed it along with the lack of play-makers at the RB and WR spots. The RBs from this class could be RS with us having Wilson, Tucker, Wyche, and Smith but the WRs should thinking they have a chance to come in play Day 1. The OL I wouldn't be surprised if we saw 2 or 3 of these guys play(maybe more). With that being said, I'm hoping that we don't see us fall back to 2-10 or something because of the # of young guys, and the leadership that was lost from this past SR class. If we can find 2 OL in this class that is great, and with how the staff talked the JUCO sounds like he could start, with Newman and Morse having a chance to challenge... Adding Izzy as a PWO(which sounds like he could become a BS in the fall) is great along with having Pearson in the program as well this spring/summer. I'm okay seeing a minor regression if it means we played young guys and improve over the year, but we can't have another wasted season of going 2-10.. we have to see some improvement if that means in young guys or record-wise.. -
Time for Wren and company to exit the bunker
BTG_Fan1 replied to meanrob's topic in Mean Green Football
I understand that and this was made before WB was around.. but issues like this need to be reviewed and brought up.. Yes its great marketing for UNT, but they are paying the Cowboys for the school to have a little banner at games, and online, and its doubtful kids have been appealed/applied to UNT in crazy amounts because of a cowboys games banner along with select school personal getting sideline-suite tickets. They have talked about how they want to increase the apparence of the school, well spending/investing in Football and Basketball are key. Playing on TV is free marketing, and a winning/successful team leads to higher enrollment rates as well. -

The thing that is needs to be improved is the allocation of money within budgets... A lot of us are upset that we still have a bottom of the barrel recruiting budget. Yes they are making improvements to the facilities to the different sports... But 1 deal that is still seems very odd to me is the Cowboys Deal.. We pay nearly 2M to just get some signs and that up, which that is all great but it should have included other things like the ability to practice at the facilities or something... But we see photos posted of individuals going to the games.. This nearly 2M could have easily been dumped into the Sports Programs, heck its worth nearly 8M over 8 years.. That's 1M we could be offering coaches, increasing budgets, etc... I know some of these choices were made before WB. Also, I do agree with you @meanrob, about they should be doing web video series. I'm going to assume a lot of kids have no idea about UNT about UNT that live 3 or more hours away.. They need to be expanding the social media of the school/ programs/ etc... If its doing more of these 1 on 1 with players, film breakdown like we saw with Orr/Robertson, etc. When kids get a letter or offer from UNT, they go out and google/youtube it.. We have an entire campus of film students that could be getting some experience and it helps promote the program. -
The real question is, do some of the assistant get let go if they recruit poorly/ position groups perform well next year?
-
I do agree that this wasn't the class that will blow people away and that SL do need more time... Most of this staff I'm not even sure had connections to many/any Texas schools. Yes, the history hurts UNT a lot, but it is something that can be fixed somewhat quickly if you can win/keep winning 3/4/5years in a row. Also, I think you will see if it doesn't work out with SL, that they will try to find someone that is a great recruiter/ and young with a lot of energy.

I'll go with Novil on defense and White/Sigger are the ones that are the most interesting... Novil in his tape was just such a dominating individual on tape. Also, I feel like English is going to be a man on a mission this year to make up for missing the past 2 years and he said that during his interview today. Novil I think is someone that could potential help and he is someone who already have some size coming in at 240/250(I believe). White I like because he has the height, so he should be an outside WR. I feel that Tyler Wilson is best suited as a slot because he seems more of a guy that has wiggle than the ability to go up for the ball, and Tyler I view is a smaller (sub-6 ft WR). Moving Wilson to the slot with Griffin and others from last year and the kid from Houston I think that is a solid slot group. The outside will be Rico, Guyton, and Smiley. Sigger is just a super physical kid, and can not wait to pair him up with Nic Smith -
Mac's Recruiting Shortfalls Put Us Here

Agreed, I think some of these guys were offered for depth and with the knowledge/likely hood that they will make it to campus compared to higher rated/risker players, along with them being here for the entire 4 years. along with finding guys who wanted to be at UNT and guys who will help reinforce the mindset and culture that SL wants/wanted. -

Agreed on the lines that its WB job to put the right people in the right places.. Now we just gotta determine if the old staff is worth keeping around or moving on.. I just don't get how the school that has many degrees that require Intershipships/ Service hours.. they could easily have students developing/ involved in some of these jobs if anything its free man power and a lot more ideas, in a program that is in need of new ideas, new blood, and new ways of conducting itself. -

I didn't do the math for last years, but with me counting them towards the 2017 class since that is when their scholarships counted, then yes they would be removed from the 2016 list. -

Not so much on WB as it should be on the Marketing and Promotion Dept... What I'm wondering is with WB bringing in some of his own people in Mosley and others, should we expect to see other guys leave after this school year like Hank and Capper(for example) just like Tommy Perry did with the staff? He has done a few things like the questionnaire about to improve the gameday experience(which they made minor adjustments but nothing major, which that could be because it was during the season) and they did the free tickets to the SM game but even that was poorly promoted(most of us heard about it through a random post on here). I do think the weak sch hurts them in terms of bringing out fans, but I would think with how many a Tech would bring in with Tech Alumni in DFW, it may offset the UNT fans that would just assume it would be a blow out and not show up... Basketball is completely overlooked on campus, I had classes in the Superpit when they played Texas College at the start of the year and no one had any interest in watching the game with us getting out 30 minutes early, and honestly I think and a lot of people thought that this men's basketball team could have been one of those teams that played well enough to get into the conference tourney and possibly earn a march bid... Womens basketball doesn't get the hype because its just a sport that people don't get pumped up for because even though they are best of the big 3 teams, they still aren't great... I do agree that SL isn't the best interview but he is a lot better then he was when he got introduced.. I'm hoping that this will change the longer and more comfortable he gets here. Yes, he has been here for a year but he just doesn't seem like he feels comfortable in front of the mic, like he may say something wrong or incorrect. Beneford is just a lame-duck with WB most likely already targeting/focusing on who to interview. As much as firing Beneford would be a boost to the alumni, its not going to make a major difference in terms of support with most fans with this season already looking like an waste. If keeping Beneford around means we are more likely to keep guys from transferring that is good for us fans but sucks for the players.. What WB is hopefully doing, is narrowing the list with his targets selected with those people being able to build a staff quickly so the recruiting cycle isn't a complete wash. But I do think Basketball is honestly the easiest sport in either mens or womens to go from the bottom to respectable, heck with Frazier alone I think a lot of us expected us to be even a middle of the tier team(maybe even higher than a mid-tier CUSA team?) But back to the marketing, Winning will be and should be the best marketer for the team.. The coach with the most energy and appeal to the fans is Ek. The ADs job should to put these coaches/staff into the best position possible.. But we will truly will never really know if WB fault or someone elses fault for these problems.. The real determination should be is there a clearing house this spring/summer or do these people stay around? If they clean house, then we know(or would think its because its not WB staff) or if they are kept then we know they are trusted and thought to turn this around. But I do feel like that AD department has a lot of potential if it were to even just do Q/As to see what is and isn't working.. getting the students involved when it comes to different marketing/promo campaigns or even recruiting.. Sorry for the long post/rant Real question is... does some of the AD staff get "Tommy Perry'ed?" Thanks for the 1 year and getting us set up/ connected with the community/right people or are they kept around. Those questions should be answered this Spring/Summer.. I'm also wondering/assuming that guys like Hank and them are on a contract with the school? -

BTG_Fan1 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Keep doubtin the math but Jenkins and Hoston alone were worth nearly an additional 20 points to the class and would be considered our 2nd and 3rd best recruits to this class.. and again you don't gotta believe it! but its a top 8 class with those guys and could be higher! Guess you will just have to agree to disagree on this!
