With that being said... We thinking English slides into DT? I wanna say in his high school tape, he played a DE.. I'd love to shift English out to DE for him to anchor edge and with his height it be easy for him to get under the pads of taller OTs and to quick for Guards

So would SMU be using one of their 9 coaching slots on this title?
-
I believe Hoston would be a DE here

An idea on how to win over the DFW high school coaches
BTG_Fan1 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Great ideas, but I would also extend the offers to all schools(which I'm assuming you would eventually do.) Could even do something that during the summer, when we do the Summer Camps and invite certain districts or something for them to train with the staff. Along the long of the tours of the campus and denton, the staff should be showing off to the coaches and players the Frisco campus, and the partnership with the cowboys. Heck talk to Jerry Jones, and see if he could be willing to use The Star for a 7 on 7 State championship with all of the UNT stuff there, and then bus them up to denton as well for them to tour the campus and that with different players from those areas. Also, something else that needs to be done, that would/could be something that works is just doing a Virtual Tour of campus. Even have the football players(currently on the team) talk about this and that, how UNT has changed in their time and even have Orr/Dunbar/ etc included talking about the evolution of the entire campus and Mean Joe as well. I'm not sure how often HS coaches get to visit the campus, but just them seeing a video and how the campus looks could spark interest in them coming to see UNT. Something else that could help offset the costs, is finding a way to offer up something like some type of certification(not sure if coaches need any), but do it in something like concussion protocol or something that the districts would be more willing to foot the bill or some of it as well. -
MGB: Key questions series Part I -- Who starts at QB?
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I would think with how Izzy is looking in his videos, that he would be most likely be a full go, if not he should be very close to a full go. I would think that the staff would only limit him in terms of being tackled. Which I doubt that they allow the QBs to be hit in Spring ball at all. The injury depends on how badly it was... http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/92337-overview#a8 According to the link, the AC Joint goes from Grade 1(lowest) to Grade 6(highest) with Grades 4-6 sometime requiring some type of surgery... I would assume, if Fine needed Surgery they would have already had get it sometime between WKU and HoD(which he was warming up), so that he could have more time to recovery and be ready for the Spring. With that being said, I would think the staff maybe more cautions with Fine's Shoulder in terms of easing him back into throwing(if he hasn't already) than with Izzy, and both Izzy and Pearson getting more reps. I'm also wondering if this makes the staff look for another QB as a PWO like we did with Carson? With Fine, Izzy, and O'Hara coming off injuries the only healthy QBs would be Quinn, Pearson, and Carson. -
wonder what spot he will fill.. Also, anyone think he could have moved over and coached OL?

MGB: Thoughts on where UNT could turn for new OL coach
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Anything to help this staff, and GH... Improved OL play will just lead to a more successful team.. Keeping the offense on the field will lead to the defense being fresher With that said, the OL Coach maybe the most critical spot this year and next because of the youth that we just brought in. SL needs to be confident in that coach, and someone has a proven record of coaching up kids. The Troy coach, OSU, and Tech coach would all be solid additions. -
Could be used as a way to give students in need of service hours a chance to build their portfolio. Also, would think if the student does a good job they would be brought on after graduation. Also, with the limited # of hours could be another reason.. This is another thing that UNT should look into.. Getting more personal with MGC members and potential MGC, and Southern Miss is doing it.. Offering students service hours and real world experience... http://www.southernmiss.com/genrel/020617aaa.html

MGB: Key questions series Part I -- Who starts at QB?
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Pearson and Izzy are both on campus.. and we can be keep comparing this to Morris, but in the HoD he played great...and Morris played well vs SMU and was our leading passer till week 4 or 5.. -

BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
ACL isn't a hard injury to come back from anymore... nor does it seem to bother him with his workouts in the gym or throwing vs air... Izzy should be and is likely viewed on the same ground as Fine and Pearson.. Fine did not do anything to lock this up nor put himself into a category above anyone on this list.. Yes fine had a presence but he also had games that he was a weakness. In all of his videos he looks great, the only worry is how he reacts when people start hitting him.. Which it is good that we have Lamar first to give this team hopefully something to use as a building block for the season. I sure hope so! Also, believe he has a chance to earn a scholarship in the fall as well -
MGB: Thoughts on where UNT could turn for new OL coach
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm down, but I think we are in need of someone with ties to recruiting in Texas.. Not saying he doesn't but someone like Hays that already does is a major plus, and the guy from OSU has coached in the SEC and Big 12 so he has a background that would appeal to kids.. But I think think Moore is someone to watch with Troys success and his ties to the members on the staff -
amen! plus never know if it was that year or the season before!

MGB: Key questions series Part I -- Who starts at QB?
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Izzy to start over Fine... Izzy has the size and the arm that this offense needs... Fine did not have the ability to make defenses respect his deep ball, and he got lucky most of the time. Fine should push Izzy, and allow us to RS Pearson, but don't be sleeping on Pearson.. the kid has great accuracy which was needed this year I don't get how Izzy is viewed as a long shot... he is the highest rated QB we brought in LOL -
what year is this for? I would think FAU would be higher with the recent hires..

Some people could get feed up of being noticed when they are out...

MGB: Thoughts on where UNT could turn for new OL coach
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
If it were up to me its between Hays or Adkins... Hays has been in Texas for 20 years, and all over the state, and with him coaching twice in Houston that is a major plus with us losing Davis who seemed to be one of the coaches that recruited Houston. Adkins has been a top 10 recruiter in the Big12 recently(in 2016), along with his history in the SEC and NFL. I would say neither coach is a bad choice, but I would most likely be looking at Adkins because he has "ranked" higher on the recruiting end, but Hays is someone that could really help this staff establish itself within the state during 2017/2018. -
Here are 2 more guys to look at Lees Hays from Texas Tech. this was tweeted at GMG.com.. Hays was apparently let go/dismissed because of the OL was influx with multiple kids leaving/ kids retiring. So guessing there would be some part of a buyout(?). Hays has a long bio in coaching throughout the state of TX, and was a former Marine. http://lubbockonline.com/sports/2017-01-21/deshaun-foster-lee-hays-leaving-tech-coaching-staff Hows coached for 20 years and all 20 have been within the State of TX. West Texas AM, AM Kingsville, Baylor, Houston, Tarleton, and Tech.Sounds like they only kept Hays around till now because they had 4 early-enrollees along the OL show up and they didn't wanna lose them. Hays was making 210k, so basically what Brad Davis was making as well. http://lubbockonline.com/sports/2017-01-21/deshaun-foster-lee-hays-leaving-tech-coaching-staff http://247sports.com/Coach/Lee-Hays-1410 Brandon Jones was at Tech when Leach was there. I think he was a GA with Leach, because his 24/7 profile has him as a OL Coach first at Sam Houston St, then East Carolina, then at Cal. Here is the list of kids he has recruited. Also, it shows he is still at Cal, but I checked there staff and doesn't show up.. http://247sports.com/Coach/Brandon-Jones-584/AllTimeRecruits

What people want is more production on the recruiting side... What we mean by that is yes this staff can coach(we believe going from 1-11 to a 5-8 bowl bid), and while that is great if we were able to recruit half the class that UTSA did image the results. Yes UNT is a hard sale to players because of the history everyone knows about. Also, it does not help being the bottom teir in DFW, with the likes of Cowboys, Rangers, Mavs, Stars, TCU, SMU..UTSA has just the Spurs, and some minor league baseball. The education as well is leaned towards UNT, and while the stadium should be kids believe and think that AlamoDome is better because its a Dome. People here don't want to see any of these coaches fired yet.. but they want us to be more productive, if that means WB and his staff dumping more money into recruiting or coaches salaries great, but people are worried that WB has been here over 6 months and people don't think changes have occurred(See Mens Basketball). I'm willing to give WB this year as a getting his foot wet, just like we did for SL.. But we need to expect better in year 2 and what is why some people aren't please with SL recruiting class(2016 was rated higher but 2017 class still isn't completely filled). We need to hope that WB with his people in place, such as the new Financial officer within UNT Athletics has been able to increase the budget and salaires for coaches. In the report that was completed after WB got here about the state of the AD office, it talked about moving the debt from Apogee to UNT and off of the department, doing this would allow them to invest into facilities, recruiting and coaches(which is what people want to see). Sorry for the rant and how it got slightly off topic, but we need to look at the bigger picture

OSU wouldn't say why but it is reported that Gundy was upset with recruits flipping last minute from OSU to UT and AM.. which doesn't make since he was in the top 10 Big12 recruiters the year before(2016) and their was their 1st or 2nd(don't have the rankings up). I'll post here links here, but he coached in the NFL for 2 years.. and then has 8 years in the SEC and Big 12. Also, I'm not to worried about him as a recruiting becaue AM has turned out multiple 1st rd picks and UT was in need of OTs under Herman. http://okstate.com/news/2015/2/26/Gundy_Announces_Five_New_Staff_Additions.aspx http://247sports.com/Coach/Greg-Adkins-600 https://www.google.com/amp/m.newsok.com/article/5536880/amp ( this is the article about why he was dismissed, but it has a few interesting things in it such as:) Adkins' impact won't soon be lost among remaining members of the offensive line. His 2016 signing class included junior college transfer right guard Larry Williams, a five-game starter before season-ending surgery, and a trio of promising high school talents — Teven Jenkins (Topeka, Kan.), Matt Kegel (Chaska, Minn.) and Dylan Galloway (Coppell, Texas). Article goes on to say that he was making 355k... which was nearly double what Davis was making.. I'm guessing with the payout/buyout from OSU it would be similar to what Mainford has/had. I think that it helps a lot in C-USA if you have a background and history, and his with the NFL and SEC/Big12 along with his experience in the Air-Raid.. I'm also going to guess but would think if he was at OSU he has some connections already in TX, and a lot in OK(which SL seems to like).. I got information or anything, I was just searching and saw Adkins was dismissed is all. I'm also hoping with WB now in charge, we can see a bump in coaches pay as well. Would be a very solid investment with the # of young OL that we are bringing in.

Here is a video somewhat of the JMU offense... It includes a short bit of them vs SMU
-
No idea what kind of offense that James Madison plays. But thinking SL wants someone who runs or has run the Air-Raid, but I do like his connections(or at least his history of playing in TX) along with him being from Houston.. Another guy to watch is the OSU former OL Coach that got dismissed... was a top 10 recruiter in 2016 right behind Traylor(The former UT coach)
-
I would think that they won't affect the colleges, or they could say that they were doing it non-state money?
