Practicing in Frisco would make it make it closer to a very large and growing community(Frisco) along with people more included to come because of The Star.. Practicing in the Cotton Bowl would allow a lot more kids in the Dallas Area to come to see them as well.. Along with offering something like bring a ticket stub from The Star or Cotton Bowl, means getting into the Spring Game in denton for free would bring in more players(who get to see the campus then) The reason we have low numbers at the spring game is 1) look at the record, 2) People don't come up for a regular season games, so why would they for spring? 3) reaching out and showing visiting these areas like Frisco and Dallas, Arlington would allow us to show off to younger players who could come up.. Also, it would give alumni a sense of seeing how the team has developed from the HoD to the local practice to the spring game...

Breaking ---Third Coach P5 Poached (update: Derrick LeBlanc)

Yes very good but I think the worry should be now is about how does this affect the players in terms of development? With us losing coaches, has UTSA lost any coaches? -

Forgot about UC with Fickell... Wondering if he got a buyout or something(assuming not) like Mainord -

I'm guessing the coaches left its really only down to Brooks, Mainord, or LeBanc.. Not sure that GH did enough on the offense side, and Fillani seeming unlikely -

Offense or Defense? I'm guessing Reff would be safe with getting the promotion to DC? -

So I would take that mean he was like Perry? Someone who had roots that the staff liked but only kept around for a year -

I would say that this is a solid addition in terms of recruiting that we have been wanting for awhile now. -

What I'm wondering about is the salary.. 24/7 says he made 140k last year( not sure what Ek was making) but I'm going to guess that was in the works for a while if we already have an replace for Ek and not OL. Also, it has him as a Safetys coach, could Reff be switching or Koonz? -
Tech is just having a scrimmage for their Alumni and fans out here, along with using it as way to appeal to the DFW area. Not sure how many people have been to The Star, but this is well worth the chance for Tech to show off. Yes UNT should do the same thing do practices heck all over DFW, use the Star, heck even go do a practice at the Cotton Bowl.. open it up the public, I beat the Cotton Bowl would love to have another reason to open up and for them to make some $ off parking or snacks.. Even Jerryworld, heck set it up that UNT fans could attend a scrimmage at Jerry World then go over to the Rangers game(depending on when the Spring Sch.) I'm not sure how many others on here have not been to Jerryworld or the star, but I would go just to support UNT... Then hold the spring game up in Denton, but UNT has to go out and engage Fans and Alumni that are not in Denton and give them a reason to drive up 30 minutes to denton. Honestly, having practices at the star and other spots like the Cotton Bowl, opens up UNT to even more recruits because we are right there. Heck even do something like if you went to the Star or CottonBowl, and you bring in a ticket stub you get into the Spring Game in Denton for Free, or partner with some local denton places that could be like 5 bucks of a dinner or something.

I was wondering this as well... How the team somewhat collapsed on defense the 2nd half of the season, it could lead to an improvement somewhat.. I understand why the did the co-dc titles, but never truly got why someone with no experience in the 3-3-5 would call the plays when you got someone who excelled at it didn't. Also, I do agree on spending it on a up and coming coach, but with that said.. do we think LB Coach is something that can viewed as a spot we lean more of a recruiter than coach? Along with, does Reff stay at the Safetys coach or could he move to LB possibly?
-
While I do agree, that the staff should look into ways to bring in Trice/Cobb/Quinn/Mean Joe among others... I would say if they can bring in Orr as a coach, with Trice and them being guys that help in recruiting/ speaking with recruits. Trice/Quinn/Cobb could be guys who come up and talk to the recruits in town one night for dinner or something, along with the others being with the kids during the game possibly? and Mean Joe could come talk to them before the games(not sure how much traveling he likes to do). I do like the helping out the coaches, when you watch the 30 for 30 about The U, Micheal Irvin says that after he graduated his class/group of guys would come back to help the kids out on the sideline..

I know of atleast 20 to 30 students that would love to do anything within the AD office... Hoping this leads to more openings for us students.. Would be a great way to get people involved and hopefully for some to stay as well.

no ashton? maybe he is the member of the staff that is leaving? -
The person hired for this spot wont be doing much, it will be mostly doing graphics for recruiting offers and a few other designs.. We didn't produce much, this is spot is mostly to help the recruiting coordinator, but also to bring a younger person on that may be more in touch with recuits along with a way to build kids portfolios for after college. If they are good, then we can retain them
-
While it is sad to see them leave, it is a positive sign that bigger schools are wanting to pick up these guys.. It will make UNT more attractive to other coaches because of the ability to bounce back, and build some recruiting ties in texas
-
Well didn't we do this with Ivery last year? He didn't have anything to do with Spring-ball so he could focus on grades? Could this be our way of having him get the grades so he is able to play in the fall?
-
While I would like to bring in an Experienced coach, having Zac join the staff right now wouldn't be terrible if Ek did leave. Zac is would have Reff and LB to lean on up the middle. Also, Zac is someone that would bring the energy lost from Ek. I think a lot of these guys also would look up to him as a role model, someone who was doubted everywhere but still broke threw.. Also, Zac is someone who isn't or wouldn't be afraid to ask for help or anything, along with Zacs LBs would most often be going up vs SLs RBs at practice as well or Mainfords inside WRs, that they could help I'm out as well. What he did in that film breakdown with Robertson and Scott showed he is someone that loves to watch film. Also feel like Zac could help connect with recent grads and present day students who knew who he was...
-
I have no info, but if EK got just a position coaching job else where he would take over staying Co-DC? I would think with the defense got ran over at the end of the year, that would drive people away? Also, you think Orr is ready to be a coach? Not saying he isn't... in those videos he seemed to be great at breaking down film, etc.
-
I'm guessing that rumor of Mainord leaving, but that was him to Texas(which I believe Tech filled the spot/never opened it)... but I would guess with the success of the DBs maybe Brooks? I would think Ruef and Ek are safe nor would leave without getting a DC job,

An idea on how to win over the DFW high school coaches
BTG_Fan1 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Just hoping that UNT with that CHHS(Colleyville Heritage Staff) and with GH brother can help us out land that WR that they have for 2018... -
I hadn't heard about anyone leaving so didn't know if it this would count for the 9, or if "associate head coach" is just a fictional position that is used to get someone with his recruiting ability onto the staff

MGB: The countdown of countdowns begins with UNT at No. 109
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
The defense is worrisome because of the # of starters and experienced players... Scott, Davis, etc.. Just off the top of my head we played Hambome, Garner, EJ, and Khari.. yes they played to fill a few spots but we got to fill other spots along with depth... That's my biggest worry
