  1. Why is it WB fault that TB coached the 5th year??? RV gave TB the 5th year, are you saying that you wanted WB to come in and just fire TB before ever playing a game? Thats great, fire him right before the season with coaches already locked in at their jobs/ schools, along with adding a 3rd buyout even if for 1 year to the debt/ penny pinching for the AD Budget this year (that again WB did not get any say in). We can ask and fight to why they didn't fire TB mid-season, but it shows a few different things: 1- TB replacements options were either as bad or even worse than him, 2- The firing of TB would have lead to possibly an increase in game performance, but it has been brought up that the stats show it still wouldn't have had a major impact in the season in terms of W/Ls. 3- If TB was fired, then it just added another hoop that WB has to deal with in terms of evaluating the MBB/WBB programs,
  2. Not at all... You said and proven it, that you wanted TB gone, and that you would have been happy making the Conference Tourny... Harper is someone who has been to multiple NCAA Tourneys, in this conference and is someone that can be had.. Others that UNT would appear interested in you have agreed they would be welcomed hires, but most likely wouldn't jump at coming to UNT. While Harper isn't the sexiest hire, neither was SL and alot of people outside of TX have taken notice of what SL did. Yes we would all love to land a Larry Brown, but I doubt that WB can pull the money together to pay someone what brown was making at SMU (reportly 2.6 Million, http://www.bing.com/search?FORM=U312DF&PC=U312&q=larry+brown+smu+salary).... Its going to be even harder with fans, such as yourself that have gone on the record saying he will buy and support TCU MBB.
  3. Wait a minute... You complain that you wanted TB gone mid season, and would have been happy with us just making the conference Tourney.... 500 gets us into the Tourney....
  4. You would have taken going 500 this year over what TB did
  5. I do agree, the problems in the past would be my largest worry... But the article says that the players didn't do anything school-wise to get the suspension, since they were still enrolled after the suspension.
  6. It would be interesting with LSU paying him a buyout, would/ could lead to UNT being able to offer more to JJ in terms of recruiting or assistant pool or something else.
  7. I'm hoping that Wilson and Smith become the All-Purpose/Feature RBs (power and speed backs), with Wyche filling in the change of pace RB like Ivery was, then Turner becomes the Bruiser/ Goaline/ Short Yardage back... I'm not sure what to make of Hosley though.
  8. If Harper is the guy, I would assume they wait to announce anything till after his team is out of the Tourney. But this shows that WB already had the search-committee working and looking for someone even when TB was on the staff and while the season was on going. I'd like to get a younger coach (Harper is 55 according to Wikipedia) but it looks like he is would be a solid addition. Harper went 90-61, with him going 42-34 in conference when he was at WKU.
  9. Interesting because we thought we had gotten to 19 with the Punter... Wonder if something happened with him, and that is why are brought in the new Kicker from Louisville
  10. Agreed, but hopefully Johnson can pull a Davis, like he did with LeBanc (somewhat) Something else to weigh in, McClain seems to be a potential draft pick and maybe Jenk if he can carry over some of the high-level play that he had last year. Also, I think Brooks recruits in HOU.
  11. No, Letting TB coach 1 year and then replacing him is what WB did. WB gave him a clean slate and you may not like that, but you would ask for the same thing from a new boss. Firing someone yes could have positive results, but could have negative as well. We couldn't have done much worse in the stats, but off the court this team could have been a lot worse. Leaving the program in a good slate in terms of grades and no off-court problems is a good thing. WB didn't need any type of chaos when he was trying to evaluate and see where the program has to be fixed. He already had to deal with the football coaches leaving, the new soccer/field complex, IPF, among other things that he has to do. 100% agreed. It wasn't WB who gave TB the 5th year. Also, by the time WB got here, it was most likely to late to even bring in a new MBB Coach.
  12. Is TB coming back next year? If TB isn't back next year then I would say he held him accountable. Unlike RV who gave him a 5th year after 4 years or not winning
  13. Believe this kid goes the same HS as Cameron Johnson from the 2017 class. Hopefully Johnson has his ear and can talk him into coming to UNT and getting some playing time with us losing Jenks after the season.
  14. If we are comparing this to retail, when a new boss comes in, they give all employees a fresh start right? Just like how WB came in and gave TB a clean slate. Then the bad employees either change and get with the program or they are fired or they move on themselves. Now a lot of people have different opinions on when the firing should have taken place, and that is fair. But as a manager you have to realize and think about what this firing could do to the employees under that employee (the one you're thinking of firing) could do. If you fire that person, do you have someone to replace them? If not then you can not fire that person, and lets not make up excuses saying this or that would lead to someone getting fired even without having a replacement because that was not what happened here. TB did nothing wrong outside of just a crap coaching job. Most retail places, if they don't fire someone they will just start cutting the employees hours, so that the employee (that could get fired) looks for jobs else where. By WB letting TB coach out he season, WB made it so that the players were comfortable and that the program even though it was left in a bad spot, it's not in a spot where it is a complete rebuild. I'm sure as wel that TB and WB had discussions during the season that TB likely wouldn't be back, and that TB was coaching for his next job, while WB was likely already making a list of what he would want in his next BBall coach. UNT MBB has some very nice pieces in terms of young talent, and an AD that is willing to spend money when you can prove why and when it is needed. The money was brought up in the interview, and has been shown with a new $12 Million dollar soccer/Field stadium, and the IPF on the way as well. Coaching in a state that has no income tax, and in an area that has a lot of HS talent.
  15. Us not turning to an assistant speaks volumes, even if you view the reasons that WB gave as a simple way out or easy answer. I do agree, we will never know what "could have been" but atleast as of now, we have to hope that WB can bring in the correct guy, just like we did with SL. Time to turn the page.
  16. How many of those 5 years was he under WB??? WB had him for 1 year, so you are telling me that you wanted WB to come in and fire TB before he ever played a game and have a 3rd buyout on the books? Heck if we would have fired him mid-season what stops players from transferring mid season, skipping class, getting in trouble? Heck what if the intern coach does bad, do we fire the intern and hire an intern for the intern coach? Letting TB play out the year, let WB judge and see where the program needed to be fixed (in terms of upgrades needed within the program), from TB point of view, and when the new MBB Coach comes in WB will get another set of eyes to see what needs to be improved upon. YES we some people would like to see have seen TB gone earlier but it wouldn't have changed much if anything here. WB gave us answers and we will never know if it was sugarcoated or not, but one thing it shows it that WB really did give TB a fair shot, or WB viewed the replacements even worse then TB. We can say oh well we can't any worse, actually yes we could... We fire TB and the team just skids with players getting in trouble, or looking to transfer, grades dip, etc... But TB is gone now, so yes its time to move on. MBB has been reviewed now and we get to see what WB does.
  17. Its not putting words in his mouth, if we would have had a replacement we likely would have fired TB..
  18. We have no idea, every single situation is different... If logic would have stated we beat Portland St as well...
  19. It was not WB who gave TB the 5th year... If you are going to say fire him before the season, everyone thought this team was/ could have an okay season. If you wanna say he should have fired TB mid-season, yes it could have gotten us more Ws, or it could have gotten more less Ws as well. WB not firing TB just shows how little trust he had in the assistants who would have replaced TB
  20. And again, with WB not firing TB that shows what was thought of the assisants...
  21. While you bring up a good point, but the difference is that Mac got destroyed on homecoming... RV didn't wanna fire Mac, but was most likely pressured into doing so because of the result and probably by NS. Getting destroyed on HC in front of alumni and boosters was the reason for Mac...
  22. You really think they would have seen a noticeable increase in fans after firing TB? Fans don't go because of the coach, they go because of the product on the court, and WB not firing TB just shows how little he thought of the staff that was in place...
  23. What does a change in pace do if we had fired TB once we were eliminated from the Tourney? If we had fired TB before being eliminated yes we may have gotten 1 or 2 more wins or we could have gotten 1 or 2 less (its an endless game and no one will ever know) And again, if the intern makes it to the Tourney and we get bounced after right off the bat, what is the benefit outside of us making the conference Tourney? Just making it won't make won't make UNT more attractive if they get bounced right off the bat. Coaches that UNT goes after will look at the pay, and the players on the roster, not what has been done in the past.
  24. Could it be WB had no trust or did not believe in the assistants on the staff... And again, if the intern had made the Tourney, how many people are wanting us to hire the intern or extend them instead of getting a better coach?
  25. I could be missing something completely, but getting to the C-USA Tourney and being out after a game or 2 proves what if we had an intern coach? Would that want you to keep that Intern coach, over us going out and getting someone? Heck we will never know what would have happened if they did fire Benford.. What if they did then the intern loses out the rest of the way instead of the few Ws that we did get with TB? If we are talking about firing TB once we were eliminated what was it, like 3 games left in the season (I Believe?) with 1 home game and then 2 on the road.. wouldn't that have been on Sr Day?
