The most promising and honestly biggest relief to me was him saying this isn't a short-term stop. I'm hoping that he is someone that is here for a long-time because of success, not being a place holder like TB was this year. I know he likely has to say he is here for the long-term, but it honestly sounded like and looked like he meant it. Another thing that was impressive, was him saying we will be ELITE. Again, this is something every single coach says, but again it gives us hope and should show the players that he won't take just getting by.

I do think that is a question that is worth asking, but a question that we will likely never get a real answer possibly. WB and the staff would most likely say that they raised that $ even if it came from the UNT Budget or AD Budget, and if it came from a donor then we will likely never know who. But it does give me hope, and should give us all hope that if it is true that donors pitched in on this. Also, it just shows ineffective and out of tune RV was compared to WB, Mosley and Peek when it comes to getting $ donated to the program. WB as @FirefightnRick quoted is serious and even said that buying someone out was not going to be a problem. That quote alone should give everyone who doubted WB hope, and it should show that WB has a lot of influence and back from NS if it did come from the school as well. And if it was Mattress Mac, I'm hoping that UNT talked to whoever is running the new Convention Center/ Hotel that is going up into buying from Mattress Mac. Along with them using him to furnish the school as well. I even saw a few Baylor fans that live in the Denton area saying on twitter they are buying Season Tickets because of GM...

They said on the road station that they are most likely gone, and the AD as well said that he wanted to interview other people.

Before he was at ND, I believe he was at ARK and recruited some kid from NC, when ARK never recruited anyone out of NC

I do agree that they are at their ceiling, and that is why i view them at a equal level as UNT with UNT being down for the recent history... Hopefully in a year or 2 when we win consistently, then we can be par with the likes of LAT, MTSU, WKU, heck even Tulsa or UH.

I'm not expert, and i do understand that it was a long time ago, and that he is improved as a coach. But I guess this is what its like to hire a relatively young coach. I just expected someone with a longer D1 HC experience, but I do like this hire a lot.

I think UNT has the ability to better than A-State, but it hasn't been of late in terms of sports performance. UNT has a lot to offer, but the recent history has not been good at UNT. I do agree that it was most likely a private convo, and something that GM didn't want released if true... Makes no sense for him to trash UNT before he is even introduced to UNT. Also, wonder if this is way of trying to trying to keep recruits from following GM to UNT.

I do get the point, but I'm sure I'm slightly bias in terms of how i view ULL and TXST compared to UNT... to me I just don't feel like they are on the same level is all. I figured it didn't really matter in this event, but had no idea. I thought people had brought it up with RV and why he left is all.

I would think that yes we would be pissed if we had a coach leave for those schools, but I would think that UNT and ArkState are in a tier above those...

While i get the whole winning %, he has only coached 1 year at D1.. I'm no expert, but I would think there is a major difference in terms of coaches and coaching ability between midland college and UNT. That is my only worry and that he had only 1 year of experience of HC at the D1 level, but he was on a Baylor for a # of years so that eases my worries some. But again I'm no expert, nor will i try to play that part. If people on the board like this hire and say its a solid hire then I believe them.

My questions is was this fundraised money, which i assume they will claim even if wasn't... or if the school gave the OK and paid it or it came from the AD Budget. With it being fund-raised that would mean WB, Mosley, and Peek have been selling a pretty solid pitch.

All good, and I hadn't seen anything either. I'm guessing with the seriousness of WB with basketball, wondering if something like this was done with SL. One difference is that they did call for the BOR to discuss SL contract, but I didn't hear anything about McCaslands contract but maybe that was a closed door session?

I'd say I do agree, that the AD did have a huge blunder when it came to talking down about another school.. I'm also assuming its allowed if it has been made public, but is the AD able to comment about his dad's stroke since its a medical condition? I'd hope that we wouldn't react the same way, I mean we didn't when we lost Davis, Ek, or LeBanc but that could be because they weren't HCs and they made a noticeable job in terms of competition between UNT and their new school. But to mean, we have to remember and can't be upset if the coach leaves (even if its after 1 year) if they improved the product from when they got it. Is this the same plane that went to visit the IPF?

I would like to see a buyout that is like 600-750 in year 1 or 2, with it being at 500k in 3 years so that if he leaves a couple of years from now we can make some off of him leaving or just break even. What could be interesting is, does he view UNT as a long-term home even if he has success. With UNT being close to Irving and him saying he wanted to be close to home, would that keep him here over larger-school offers in the future? I'm assuming he views Baylor as his dream job, just like we assume SL views OU 1 last questions is did we have some big time boosters kick in for the buyout or is $ coming from the school? and no related but on the topic of contracts, have we have found out SL new contract in terms of #s, besides the 1 year extension?

Didn't Biagi, the new Special Teams coach recruit kids when he was like a GA or something at Arkansas?

What I mean is, how that coach would potentially use the players on the roster to fit how they(the new coach) wants to play.. I would assume its easier for GM to go from TBs scheme to his, than it was for SL to go from Mac/Chicos offense to the Air Raid I'm hoping we can see them up there after next year potentially... I have my fingers crossed that SL and GM are holding out for dream jobs of OU and Baylor, and would be here for awhile.

I'm starting to think that you're Mohajir.. My question is, does he always slam the school who is paying ArkState, and slam the person for taken a job that he (Mohajir) thinks is a downgrade? Sounded like he wanted to even go after WB when he was discussing WB knowing GMs agent... I'd like to think it will bring in more Alumni, but a solid team as well should lead to more students as well. I'm sure/ would think that WB having a year under his belt will only help market and present the team as well.

Just listening to the AD, he sounds like the bitter ex-gf that is mad she got left for someone better...

Just going to say, he seems a lot better in terms of being comfortable in front of the camera than SL at the very start. But GM does have HC experience compared to SL

Why was this person a better hire at the time for the program? Honestly GM sounds like a great hire, and I'm trusting in WB.. But I think SL gets the vote from me just because Football is top dog, and he seemed to have a roster that was in far worst condition than what GM is getting from TB While I do agree that GM has what looks like a better record, with him coaching at ArkState before UNT, compared to SL with no HC experience, along with GM being an Assisant at Baylor while SL was an OC else-where, my only worry is about the lack of HC experience. While I get the JUCO and smaller schools, does that really translate to larger scale programs?

A question I would like to see people talk about is: Which hire do we think is/was better? SL or GM at the time of the hiring?

Wonder if we could get him to wait 2 weeks, and have those signees wait 2 weeks as well..

I would think with it keeps them around more than likely. With us hiring him so quickly, I would think it allows and gives him more time to work on keeping them around. Also, does Mosley and Mccasland have a history, from the short time at ACU before going to Baylor?

How can we be less invested in the team, you have sold out and moved onto TCU... Any of us having just a bit of faith in UNT has more invested... You may have had more in the past invested, but you have already moved on...
