DRC -- UNT assistant coaches salaries up heading into 2017

I still do not get how Brown who is one of the better recruiters is still under 100k? -
DRC: Baker says he has no interest in potential opening at OSU
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Can we say that Vito was click baiting everyone? With that being said, if WB did get an offer and left, doesn't have have a buyout? If so, it would be a very nice payment to UNT since WB is only about 7 months into his contract. -
'17 OL Brendon Weatherspoon (L.D. Bell) [LOI: NT]
BTG_Fan1 replied to GMG24's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
LOL yea I know its very unlike but with him being tagged, figured I'd float it out there as something to watch -
Lebanc has moved around, and that hits his tape/ offers... The guard from midway is over looked because of a the star QB, another even better G, along with a few kids on the defensive side of the ball as well. Johnson appears to be injured his JR year, and that hurts in terms of getting offers early. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes we can be mad about the kids and their offer lists, but SL and the staff did a solid job with picking up players that did something for us last year. with no offers Look at what Rico, Tyler Wilson, Fine, Balkman, etc did and they didn't many/ if any offers. Heck we added Triggers, the Durlin (the houston QB turned WR), Greg White, 3 of the top 4 or 5 kids in our class and they didn't have many other offers... That is on top of Pearson who alot of people on here like and he didn't have much of a list either.

He tagged Verone McKinley III in this... Should we expect something big? -
Lets hope they all stick and these guys and that they have solid years and possibly improve on their rankings.
-
Yea Peters is #5 Guess each new coach will get one
-
Oh nice, i didn't know about the early grad. I feel like Leblanc is someone who is likely to stick with UNT, and with him moving maybe it helps him stay under the radar a bit more. I'm just worried UK offers and he doesn't show
-
I believe that we used 5 Blue-shirts with the likes of Hood, Jenkins etc. But we had 2 guys from Signing day that didn't make it so they were able to move some of the BS into the slots for the guys who didn't make it (Johnson, and Haynes). I believe that we have 5 more BS for this years class (Weatherspoon, etc) as well. I'm not sure how the we would want to % them out, but I would not say that any of the guys are 100% locks like we felt with Pearson or Davis at times.. Lebanc has said the right things, but it would worriesome if UK doesn't offer to him, and the G from Midway made it sound like he only committed because we offered. Johnson seems to be the most likely to stay to to me. But this staff has shown the ability to hold onto guys once they commit, with the only lose that we have suffered is Bradley to HOU.

I'd like to hear how did Calvin Avery like JR Day, and what the people who attended thought was a positive and what could be improved. A lot of the tweets and retweets kids seemed to be impressed with JR day.

18' RB Brock Sturges (Allen H.S.) - 3 *
BTG_Fan1 replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I see where you are coming from, but by the time NSD comes around. We will have a lot clearer picture of the RB position. We heard about Smith all throughout the season and even this offseason. I do think we will have a clear view of Smith after the Spring Game with Wilson sitting out the spring entirely. I would say RB could be likely a pressing need for us on the Offensive side (outside of QB) of the ball after Wilson leaves, but with the depth issues at CB and LB. I do agree that we need to just stockpile talent as much as possible, but we were able to pick up someone like Triggers just 2 or 3 days before NSD. If Struges goes else where, its no biggy is all. -
DRC: UNT breakout candidate No. 1 -- English could be a star
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I know its high, but if there is one kid that can challenge to be anything close or better to Booger. My bet is that its English. I mean in terms of stats, my bad that I didn't add it in. I was 10-13 years old when he was here. I don't remember if Booger was a guy who could play the entire game or if he was rotated in and out often. I'd like to think in Reffs system that English is able to get pressure often. High and as I bring up in this post, Id like to think that English is more than willing to be up for the challenge. No disrespect to Booger, but all I remember him getting was a pre-season try out and those guys are 1st rounders. I'm just hoping and I know english is likely setting his goals to be on Booger's level or higher. I get the point, and I wasn't here when Booger was to see what he did for the campus, but English is just someone you see around campus and its different. I was 10-13 years old at the time for Booger but English to me just feels like he could be special. Not saying that Booger wasn't special because he was, but just think that English will have an impact while on campus and once he is off campus. -

We have Nic Smith already here, with Triggers, and Johnson from our most recent class. Not going to say we are set at RB, but that is a solid stable of RBs I think. -
DRC: UNT breakout candidate No. 1 -- English could be a star
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
My question is should we expect English to be a anchor that just takes on blocks to free everyone else or should we see him attack? I'm hoping that English is a better version of Brandon Kennedy. -
Why would UTSA need an IPF when they play in one?

DRC: UNT breakout candidate No. 1 -- English could be a star
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I just hope that everyone embraces English... The kid has done a great job in terms of helping recruit some kids, and honestly I think could be someone like Zac Orr here at UNT. Just hope he gets a huge cheer for that first sack, tackle, etc. -
What did we expect, as great as Fine was at times last year. Most of his stats came in garbage time or in 1 or 2 games. Morris who started what 4 games had more TDs
-
I have no idea what Calvin's coaches have been doing in terms of contact with UNT, but could it be that his coaches are putting UNT on the back-burner because of the likes of OU, UT, ND, etc having interest/ offered? I'd like to think that all coaches do everything possible in terms of visits and that to any and every school possible that shows interest, but someone such as Calvin who will get ALOT of interest its likely hard. Leading to schools like UNT to get passed over for larger programs?

17 Kemon Hall CB (Itawamba Community College)
BTG_Fan1 replied to BTG_Fan1's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Yes I was talking about Jameel Moore from SL 1st class, and Johnson from the most recent class. But outside of them we haven't added any other HS CBs that I'm aware of. I'm hoping it isn't a blue-shirt. Hall can def. play from his tape, but we already ate up if everyone makes it to campus around 5 BS from the next class with 1 or 2 still open in the 2017 class. Hall doesn't have any other D1 offer yet it seems like, with the other offers coming from the likes of Jackson State, East Tennessee, UWA, Missouri Southern, among others. I think offering him just a chance to play D1 is all he needs. The difference for example I view between Hall and someone like Fine who didn't have any other D1 offers in terms of Scholarships is Fine had PWO offers from OSU/OU. Fine is someone who you want around for 4 years and Hall is someone who could play often with Jenks injury problems from last year, and Moore or Hall playing that 3rd or 4th CB role, but is likely only going to give you 2 years here. -
We all respect and understand that people don't see the value in the investment. We get that why pay X millions in dollars for a IPF instead of using that money to pay SL and his staff top money or why this or that. But it is something that has become the standard in college sports. Again the IPF will be here long after SL and other coaches leave. The IPF is a huge recruiting tool, and yes its stupid but HS kids are looking for the bells and whistles. The more shiny and outside the box the better. Heck just within the last few years, coaching staffs started hiring graphic design people to send kids a card saying you have an offer! Someone is getting paid to do graphic design 50-60k! What WB and the AD office need to do is find ways to max out the IPF outside of when UNT needs it for Football, Soccer, Track and whatever sports use it. Rent it out or even offer it to recruiting camps as a way to showcase UNT, find ways to bring in extra revenue for the program and school. This is something that needs to change. If NS and WB, truly believe and think that this is school that can and will be a Tier 1 Sports School as well as Tier 1 for Education this is when they need to invest and dream big. Don't just be tied for the best in C-USA, or the best by a little bit by C-USA, strive to be better than any G-5 school. Beat the Miami (OH), beat Marshall, and be on par or better than the P5 like OSU or CU that they visited on the trip. Plan big because this energy and potential booster/ alumni support and energy may not be around for long. This is when you want to have schools come visit UNT. UNT is a potential gold mine, in terms of # of Alumni and its accessibility to the DFW Market, if WB and NS do this right, we could see consideration for a jump when re-alignment comes up because of Facilities, Education, and the Market. WB and NS have not been shyed away so far in terms of $ with regards to the recruiting budget, and the buyout of GM. Now its time to give SL and the guys, something that can help them in terms of recruiting and something for recruits to look at and say "Damn, they don't have this at XYZ, or Man they got this at XYZ P5 as well."
-
100 % agreed, its part of the process of becoming a legitimate power and another recruiting tool for coaches of multiple sports. Also, I'm sure that UNT can rent it out as well for other events (track meets, recruiting showcases, etc). We can pick out schools that have invested that have no seen the rewards, but for example ISU, KU, Minny, and Syracuse are all in p5 conferences and they are getting fat amounts of money for being the bottom feeders. Also, KU and Syracuse are schools that Basketball is #1 and I would also say so is ISU with basketball. We can say that IPF should help Minny and Syracuse, but just as we would use it for the heat, they use it during the winter when their conditions worsen. Also, as I will state later in this post but the an IPF will be around here far longer possibly than SL, or anyone of the coaches on the staff. If us having a IPF makes UNT more attractive to the next SL then build it. Also, its will be used for OTHER SPORTS and not just Football. It will aid the womens soccer team, among others as well. Recruiting is about the bells and whistles and recruits like to be go places with the newest and fanciest toys. Just as if you were looking for a job, you wanna go to the place that offers the most resources even if you don't use them or even if you don't really need it compared to a place that offers the same services but not the bells and whistles. We have to remember as @GMG24 brought up is that the breaks are something that weight into the practices. I assure you that we will still practice outside, but when doing 2-a days, if you can practice outside in the AM and then do some meetings then have another practice inside when its 105 out helps the guys then do it. We saw in the Beyond the green that Ashton did, that Fred Scott talked about they would be at practice from like 7am (eatting/ getting ready for practice) for practice at 9 then do meetings, they would have a break, then go back and do practice and more tape in the evening, with him getting home late when the sun was going down. If we can make it so they can practice from like 7-3 or 4 thats great because its of the recovery time. Also the heat puts stresses on the human body, if the IPF improves our conditioning even a little great. And as brought up before, we have not had anyone hurt from the Heat, but no need to risk it because 1 is to many. I do agree with you on everything that the IPF offers alot of flexibity when it comes to practicing if it does save us from time breaks, etc, but the IPF also will be used for OTHER sports as well. Just having a IPF shows that we are serious, also it is something that will be around even after any coach leaves, and is an additional point for us to sale to coaches after someone leaves. Recruiting is all about the bells and whistles, and having a IPF gives us a leg up over XYZ school great, if it keeps us in the running with a bigger name XYZ school great. Agreed NS, WB, SL and GM, heck even JM of WBB.
-
They never will. Nor will they admit that GM was a good hire, and they will question why spending the money on a IPF instead of spending it on something else.
-
Well the position rooms from what we have seem to be very small (The videos with the QBs and LBs), and they also seem to have to use the team meeting room to watch film as well. I know its a not a major problem (Since the recent upgrades) but if we are going to going to be stepping up our facilities, we need to be aiming to be far and away the #1 in C-USA not just competing to match up with the #1. And people say that WB been doing nothing the entire time he has been here. But I agree 100%, would love to keep WB, SL, and GM around for a long time
