  1. Things like this help boost us on Social Media...
  2. Investing isn't paying off fired coaches and ADs... Investing is building a new soccer/track stadium, IPF, weight room, etc. We can say that recruiting staffs are better but UTSA only replaced there DLine coach. Meanwhile SL has replaced 2 DL coaches during his short time at UNT and 5 coaches total with 4 of the 5 going to P5 programs. You may not like the results but apparently other bigger programs apparently think SL is able to bring in quality players and coach them up for these coaches to leave and go to solid programs.
  3. Because they have a QB who has produced... and our OL is still viewed as liability.
  4. It's simple to move the QB out or something as a WR. Just to mix it up and get the ball into different kids hands. We have no idea what any of these QBs are.. Quinn got garage time, Izzy and O'Hara have been hurt. Carson was a RS. Pearson was in HS, and Fine either didn't progress because of the OL or he just stop developing/ regressed. This QB competition is only favored to Fine because he was the only one to throw a pass last year in a real game. I get not rotating, but that is why I said use him for different packages. Izzy was getting looks from Baylor prior to his injury. He is a big kid as well, if he can move I'd be fine using him as the a running QB similar to UT used Swoops last year. Again O'Hara as we know wasn't getting looked at by other programs, but Izzy was. Give me his traits and we can see how he he progresses.
  5. that would be nice, but to many G5s that would be willing to take less than 2M that LSU would be willing to face.
  6. He better play a lot better than the spring game. Honestly I'd like to us to see SL do what he had talked about last year. He talked about rotating QBs at times to give them a mental break at times and to also change up looks, but he didn't do that.. I would like us to have a steady QB, but would like to have a sub package or something like 1 drive a Q for someone like Izzy to come in and change it up on the defense. Making teams plan for different things can only help. Heck give us some 5 wide with Griffin/Nic Smith in the backfield with Wilson and do a Read Option play..
  7. Bussy should have a breakout, Duhon/Khan (whichever is the Southlake PWO) i think will be a kid to watch as well. Griffin should fill in for Wilson, and hopefully be more explosive and a play a critical role for us. Lawerence I view as a 2nd string WR because he had great hands from what i recall of his HS tape (not sure about the speed.) Jackson and Boyd will be interesting if they work out because that would allow us to RS White the kid from Georgia. I forgot about Hosley, I loved his tape with how physical he was! This past class I think will be determined by the OL kids, but another group that we shouldn't over look is the skill guys the likes of Siggers, Johnson, White and Darden. Siggers was a beast in his tape. Johnson and Darden made guys miss, and White could go get the ball.
  8. GH and SL have been in this scheme and offense nearly their entire playing and coaching careers. They know how to find and indentify kids with traits to play in this scheme. Adding a kid like Martin with 0 other offers isn't the fault of UNT. QBs are almost always one of the earlier commits to a class with schools going off Sophmore and Jr tape. Martin only had JR tape, leading to schools not having him on there radar for them not to offer. Yes this is one case of the many cases, but again. This staff is finding kids that are right for the scheme and right for the program. We can try selling to kids that are highly rated but at the end of the day those kids don't want to come to UNT right now because of what we lack in terms of production, degrees that they are interested in, facilities, track-record, etc. While the records are not a big deal its one of many factors that add up. UNT getting wrecked by Portland State hurt us. I've said it before but local HS have better facilities than we do which can hurt us. The lack of new shiny bells and whistles as well. The lack of on field production in terms of stats and NFL Draft success hurts. We can talk about budgets but under RV the AD Office didn't have a suitable budget, when players are having to buy cleats or you can't even water practice fields its bad. Kids don't want to go places that are on the decline or just staying where they are, they wanna go to up and coming places and UNT can be that but it needs to improve its image. We also can talk about the staff's salesmanship, and yes it can be improved but SL has last 4 coaches to P5 jobs in KP, Leblanc, Davis and Ek (2 to the SEC, 1 to Big 12, and 1 to ACC, with KP going from Big12 to ACC this upcoming year.) and Perry to Nevada. But we don't know what this current staff can do, they are still getting settled into their jobs and trying to find a messages that do work. GH and Biagi landed us Martin, Mainford got us Bean. Brown has brought in quality kids. Koonz as well seems to be a solid recruiter with Langston having ties to the state before and Yellock coming from the NFL (while it was a minor job, it still says NFL). Football is a team game which is helped by having talent, not having the group of super talented kids that can't play as a team. If it was based off talent you wouldn't see schools like TCU upset WISC, or UH beat FSU. Its about a team game and SL and this staff proved they could play a team game enough last year to get us to a bowl. I understand the whole buil the image and that, and it has worked with us getting kids to commit even ever before they show up to visit the campus. But we need to do more here on campus for them once they get here. UNT is really bad at marketing the program and the school to some degree. Adding/upgrading the facilities are important because its more bells and whistles and the shiny things that kids can see and brag about. UNT should already have up statues of Joe Greene and Haynes and King, but we don't and these guys are major assets that the program and school could be using. Things like this will leave something with a recruit after they visit, just like how we have seen kids be impressed and talk about other schools locker rooms, when it has no outcome on the production on the field. UNT is a fall back because its unknown or only known because of a student knowing an alumni. Yes we need the coaches to get better at selling UNT, but UNT can help them by improving and increasing the knowledge of how well known UNT is. What really hurts us, is being viewed as the fall back, and then some combination of no new/cutting edge/ lack of facilities (we can talk about Apogee but after that we haven't done much else to concern Football recruits), HS staff viewing UNT negatively because of lack of outreach by previous staffs, lack of production on the field/ off the field as well, and some kids lacking/not finding degrees that they want as well. Yes the coaches can build a nice narrative about the program and we can tell the parents and the player about the great education, but the bells and whistles while they aren't huge factors they do add up. Just getting some facilities and improving some things will get us on par with other schools. We have seen them show off images of the IPF (at camps), and this staff reaching out to HS Staffs (Beans Coaches) that hadn't been reached out to before. Turning this around yes is a slow process, and its worrisome because it could be moving faster but we don't know why they are delaying things but the signs are there. We have to trust in SL, he got us to a bowl game and has lost 4 coaches from this past season and 5 in total during his time at UNT.
  9. Yes it sucks to lose kids like Wilson, Goree, Ivery... But Goree would have been passed up by the likes of Guyton and Rico this off-season. Not like Goree did a lot last year. Heck, after Goree left last year he was replaced by a PWO WR that we didn't know about who ended up having a solid game. Goree had the talent and showed flashes but that was it. Rico and Tyler Wilson both showed flashes as well. As great as Buyers, TT, Smiley, and Goree as leaders of the WR-Core last year, give me Guyton, Smiley, Rico, and K.Smith over them this year. Ivery is the most likely the biggest whole we have to replace. Jeffery hasn't been able to stay healthy, nor has Tucker. Wyche didn't produce but that is likely just being a younger player, and getting limited time. Nic Smith could fill that role, but we haven't seen it done. Jeffery Wilson played his heart out in the HOD, and i expect him to do the same this year and hopefully he will get more help from Nic Smith. The best problem for us to have is that Smith or Wyche are so talented and such play-makers this year that they force the staff to use them and move wilson to the side-lines allowing him to stay healthy. Tyler Wilson, hurts because he was a young WR that we saw a huge jump in terms of development from the season to the bowl game. Yes it will be easy to replace those 13 catches, but that practice times that he got is what hurts us. We don't know exactly who will fill the role that he had, but Griffin or Darden are likely with the likes of kids like Lawerence or Duhon being PWO that fit the role that Wilson played.
  10. I do agree that it doesn't seem to feel that we have a rival. SMU doesn't like to say we are rival, and we do the same to UTSA. Honestly, we have a few schools that could be made into a rival. SMU, UTSA, and TXST. People won't like that, but those are local and regional schools we recruit against and schools that would have no problem fitting us into a home/away series. People will not like it because its not a big name program, but adding in TXST as an out of conference game would be a nice addtion. Its a game that isn't costly and its something that would likely bring fans from either side. Heck, UNT even bused students down to UTSA for the game this year (even though they did it last minute). I think UTSA could be a good rivaly game, but so could LAT. The question is, can UNT get to the level of play that LAT is at and is UNT able to keep on par in terms of being in a conference with them. UTSA and UNT are both building to something, but we don't like UTSA because they came into C-USA while we had to work our way there even if it was after multiple losing years. I would rather play someone like TXST over Liberty, or Lamar any day... but if we got a nice paycheck from either then I would consider it. I feel the same. MTSU brings fans to our games, and was a rival from the S-Belt that always played us hard.
  11. He needs to add some leg strength to be really considered. To many kicks seem to float at times, but it could be just selective memory from me. Will help having an offense that can move the ball as well.
  12. That article makes it sound like BS HS players, are not able to play their 1st year... is this true? Interesting that they are must really like both kids to bring in both and just not 1 or the other. Also that we are doing that with a the around 20 scholarships that we have.
  13. Honestly they should be announcing that stuff now... With it being a dead period, and the calm before the fall practices. They should do a dinner or something to raise some $, something like 15-20 (maybe even more) per plate and have something like the defensive staff come in and talk to people that wanna hear from them, and show off the new uniforms. Then do another dinner and have the offensive coaches and announce the IPF design and plan as well leading into Fall Camp. A good way to rise some extra $ for the program, and another way to get people interacting with the staff. Also, having people come in and see the designs and growth of UNT sports could lead to some extra donations as well.
  14. Yes he was offered as a QB to most G5s and Georgia Tech viewed him as a QB for the 3-option. Baylor offered as a WR. Please let us know, we may also email him and ask or maybe even Vito has information on the rankings?
  15. That is true but again, finding kids for the scheme and developing them is critical. If there is depth at a position or a the kid is needing to develop more, you should RS them. Playing Murray and letting him be thrown into the fire (yes) helps him develop but it makes him and other players develop wrong/ improper tendencies. That is why we have said to RS the kids. I'd like to see them RS nearly everyone from our most recent class. Not because of class rank but because of the speed of the game, the schemes and just learning the fundamentals. Heck going from HS to coach is a challenge to some kids, adding in practice, workouts, etc it's a big jump. For example, RS Pearson and don't even dress him. SL and GH need and should play Fine, Quinn, Izzy, O'Hara and even Cason if needed this year to at the very least to determine what they have and who can/ can't play at QB if this season goes down hill. Let Pearson get another full year in system. Yes it is similar to his HS offense, but with him RS it should get him to the point he is hungry to be on the field and has nearly 2 years in this offense before taken a snap. Make it so he can read defenses and knows the offense blindfolded. Rushing a kid doesn't work at times and we saw Fine not make any progress or even regress. This staff doesn't need to do what is best for year 1 or this year, do what's best long term. UNT just recently started looking Long-term under SL. The thing hurting us now though is the lack of roster depth. Sorry for the rant/long story.
  16. Committed to Tulsa after our 2 QB commits
  17. If this is true, then he wasn't given a real fair chance without a RS year.
  18. Jenks is going to have a big year if healthy.
  19. Go into the fan shop/ticket office and ask???
  20. I figured it didn't matter because everyone would understand going onto bigger programs. Just didn't know if repeated new faces was somewhat of a negative compared to seeing the same faces year in and year out. Thanks for the info
  21. I think it's will be longer than that, but it's been floated out there since the Superpit is so costly to update with the new ADA guidelines.
  22. It was an ankle or foot injury, I believe.
  23. We have to remember this is SL 3rd DLine coach that he has had here at UNT. He had KP for a few weeks then tech took him, and then we had LeBlanc for less than a year and now on Yellock. I do agree that right now that the new guys are still trying to adjust to the changes. Hoping to see Koonz, Yellock, Biagi and Langston take it up a level like we saw with Davis, LeBlanc did last year once they settled in Also, my only worry about changing so many coaches is the message changes and can't really build those steady relationships with HS staffs. I understand that HS coaches most likely understand the movement of college coaches. It was brought up with Beans HC that he had seen more outreach and connection with this staff than previous staff. @GMG24 maybe you ca provide some input, but does it hurt UNT with the mass staff turnover?
  24. I was thinking about this yesterday and I have no idea why.. But what pairing would you rather have? Koonz as LB coach and Reff as DC or Ek and Reff splitting DC duties? Honestly feel that EK was a solid piece to the staff, but feel that our defense will be better with Koonz and Reff calling the plays. ---------- Koonz and Brown are solid recruiters and likely the best on the staff but the sleeper of the staff for me is Biagi.
  25. The biggest thing with Fine was he did not show progress, if anything he stayed the same or even slightly regressed. Yes the OLine was bad, and the WRs at times as well, but Fine did not help himself. We can be critical of both QBs last year in Morris and Fine. Fine took a lot more sacks and unneeded hits because he would hold the ball to long. If that is because of play call or because of height we won't know. I would say it's very likely it's because of the height and not the scheme because SL and GH would have changed it up most likely. Morris it was mostly about turnovers. Yes some of the turnovers were on the WRs, but what Morris seemed to excel at, was throwing the ball away. Fine never developed this. If Fine has just learned to throw the ball away instead of holding it longer and hoping something develops that will help this offense. Instead of being in 2nd and 18, or 3rd and whatever and having to pass it will help this offense. This WRs corp I feel will be a lot better this year than it was last year. Guyton just looks the part of what a #1 WR should look like. With Guyton slotting into that #1 it allows the likes of Smiley and Rico to fall in and battle it out for #2. Rico could see a huge jump in production. What he did in the HOD was impressive, and he is leaps and bounds ahead of last year at this time. Last years WR core was lead by Goree, and he was no impressive. TT and Buyers are going to huge loses to this offense because they seemed like guys who were just reliable and in a leadership role, now that is on Smiley. We don't need to see s huge jump in terms of positions going from good to great, if the OL can just be average and the WR can catch 60% of the passes that would be huge for this offense. When this offense clicks it's because of completions, that also opens it up for Jeffery. If we even just move from 117 to 80 or 90 on offense that is huge.
