DRC: Woodrow Wilson QB Cade Fennegan commits to UNT
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I would assume no since he is just committing and not signing anything.. according to Vito, he will sign something -
'18 QB Cade Fennegan(Dallas Wilson HS)
BTG_Fan1 replied to MGNation92's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
So does this mean we have our QB commits for 2018, 2019, and 2020 committed now? -
lol We would have gladly taken both of them.. they would have been hands down the best players on their units

'18 Alex Morris ATH (ATASCOCITA)
BTG_Fan1 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Not to mix threads, but does this shutdown the potential of adding Hallet? Would like to add both of them, would be a solid CB combo to me with Morris ability to catch the ball -
Lol at the end of SL talking

Which team in CUSA has the most horses coming back?
BTG_Fan1 replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
When I say take chances on 1-2 OL it is talking about high upside and passed over recruits that (likely) have a flaw (grades, work ethic, legal problems, etc). An example of this would be the OL Micheal Fletcher from this current 2018 Recruiting cycle. He is a .83+ recruit that had an offer from us and Tulane. It had been said that grades are the problem and it’s likely why his offers have dried up. Again, this a .83+ 3* 6’6 290 lb Tackle that was at least offered by another college in Tulane. I would take a risk offer him a scholarship, and if he makes the grades to get in great if not we have kids like Carroll, Brown, Redfearn in this class with 0 other from any type of college from what I recall that could be then moved from a blue shirt/PWO to a scholarship. I’m sorry but Carroll, Brown, Redfearn are all kids that should have been PWO/Blueshirt players if higher ranked kids didn’t make it to campus. UTEP waited and held out hope on Hernandez that he could qualify and it paid off big time. Similar to what we did we did in the first recruiting cycle with Johnson and Haynes, but they didn’t make it. We are at the point we are nearing that scholarship cap compared to the 60-65 that we were at when SL first got here. To sum it up, I would be fine us taking 1-2 kids with high upside on the OL that may have problems qualifying (like Fletcher) and then add in 1-2 more PWO kids similar to Carroll, Brown, Redfearn who if anything could then be moved up to a scholarship if someone didn’t qualify. It worked out for UTEP with Hernandez, and yes we have been burnt by it and likely will more often than not but image how nice it would have been to have a 1st or 2nd round OL on this team this year? -

He also had issues with grades.. UTEP held out hope he could qualify and he made it.. we need to do that with 1 or 2 OL and if they don’t make it move up some blue shirts to fill those spots -

Everyone understands but when you have nearly 4 entire OLs worth of scholarship players that are taking up nearly 1/5 of the scholarships.. you either need to bring in a better person to evaluate talent, or develop talent -
Gives you flashes of Singletary and the Troy RB who would take 2/3 hits then go down and always seems to fall forward. This would a major addition not because of the rating/offers but because of the ability to just physically pound away on teams with his size which our current RBs don’t have.

UAB is worrisome, but UTSA/USM list their best players on Offense and UTSA lost possibly the best defensive player in the conference. LT/ODU a lot hinges on if their QBs can make the jump.. LT got the extra bowl game reps and played vs a team that in SMu that was in transition, so I’m not solid on their QB. ODU the kid was a better runner than passer, and I believe they are bringing in a new OC(?). FAU is changing out personal and hopefully they are still working out the kinks late in the year, but LK will be calling the plays and making it work. LT should be the wildcard game for us this year. -
DRC: A look at where UNT stands in recruiting
BTG_Fan1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Garrison Johnson is a 2019 RB.. would love to add him and have him paired up with Smith, Johnson, Siggers and Torrey.. Johnson is and would be a major addition alone because Of his size.. would love to see him come here. -
New Recruiting Coordinator Announced

Stenklyft was on the field during games, but no idea if it was of anything of importance.. He may have been the “get back coach” i think.. but at his prior job, he was an LB coach or assistant LB coach Stenklyft did a terrible job, and so bad that he was basically called out on the board and Twitter. What is also a good thing about UK is that they have been a bottom dweller for awhile (similar to UNT) but have been on the up with them recently having success in terms of going to bowls recently. The connection with the Stoops family helps, but another thing to take into account is UK hired away LeBlanc so he likely was contacted by SL as well. @GMG24 talked about during the visits he brought some kids on, that the gameday planning was at times lacking and left much to be desired at times. Hopefully coming from an SEC they will have more direct planning/influence and have things down to the detail with visits on or off campus being planned nearly down to the minute to maximize the UNT experiences. -
That may have been but no idea.. I was just on the “media” tab for his twitter account and was flipping through it. To me, this is the ideal kid to add at the DT spot, solid size and think he would be one of the bigger if not the biggest kids we have. Still would like to find a HD DE to pair with him for this class.

I do think it high as well and brought this up in prior posts.. Since SL has gotten here he has recruited nearly 3 entire OLs worth of kids if you break it down and its worrisome that we can't start plugging in some of these kids like Chandler Anthony who is going into his RS SO year. -

I would think 18 is a bit high, with most programs likely having 15-16 at the very most with it ideally probably being around 12-14 with you graduating 2-3 a year with them being replaced each year as well. The biggest problem with investing so many scholarships into the OL is it has taken away from the DL/LB in last class and the OL kids we added this class have 0 other offers.. To me let the RG/RT spot be settled by Preston, Moses, Brammer, or Parish/Murray unless there is a drop dead amazing JUCO we can get late or a highly ranked kid who may have grade issues that we could pick off late similar to what we did with Johnson and Haynes with the hope they can make it to campus. -
'18 TE/LB/DE Cole McCrary(Dallas Wilson HS) PWO
BTG_Fan1 replied to MGNation92's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Hope he is a PWO because of the offer list doesn’t leave a lot to be be impressed by, his best offer outside of us is Tarelton. Another potential nice piece, hope he is an LB.. nice size, good speed, but would be a bit to light to be a DL for us. -
Because this defense is terrible and folds under pressure???
-
Hey at least if anything the XFL is back in 2020, hopefully we can get some guys to that combine!
-
Measurables, hands, cutting ability, speed, bench press and health are the things I know are tested/looked at in Indy.. But pass blocking maybe something they recently started doing in the last year or two (doubtful though)... if he has a solid showing at the combine, scouts/coaches will (hopefully) rewatch his tape and his pass blocking should be a major selling point, and something they show off at the Pro-Day but the question is can he get the weight up.. if he is taking on a 230+ LB can he handle it? SL/Choice need to be going all out on their connections.. Also, NS/WB need to be hitting up the Cowboys with that money UNT is spending them and find a way for the guys who do the Dallas Cowboys draft show (fans throughout the NFL listen to it as well) to evaluate and talk up Wilson.. We also need to spam the heck out of them and ask them to evaluate Wilson or any UNT kids..
-
The kid from Converse would be a solid addition because of his size, which is greatly needed.. I would take him and Shaw and scrap the JUCO Tackle or HS kicker..
