  1. I see the coolness of the battle flag, but I think people who drive by with no ties to the school won't understand. I would go with the North Texas one during the week and have the battle flag for game days. Mixing it up would be a good attention grabber.
  2. Man, a solid article about a young up and coming coach at UNT and people here find a way to turn it negative... Amazing
  3. Coaches have to over offer. No team or coach in the country gets everyone they offer. There's no way you could wait until one player says no before you could offer the next player.
  4. Deadspin is reporting Liberty is paying the $1.32M to guarantee a home opener for their first FBS game. My guess is that offer was not on the table for other games.
  5. Again, it's less about the actual Army game and more about preparing yourself for the rest of the year.
  6. I think Baker's point here is that it's hard to shift gears mid-season to play a team like Army. No one is scared to play Army, but when you look at OOC games you are trying to put your team in position to do well in conference play. Playing against the triple option does not prepare you for anything you will see the rest of the year.
  7. Why is Army looked at as such a great draw for fans? Looking at last year's road games for them, the average crowd was 64% of capacity of the stadiums they played in, with 4 of 6 games under 60%. While there may be some draw for diehard football fans, I don't think the casual fan is going to feel that same draw to an Army game. Note: This is not me saying Liberty is going to draw well either. I'm just trying to understand the strong feelings about Army in particular.
  8. You could sub North Texas for Liberty in this thread and move it to an OKST message board and these are the same comments people here would complain about OKST fans making.
  9. I think you should wait and see what other moves may come down the road. My guess is that this was a calculated move to make room for some other changes. Changing an FBS schedule after being behind the curve must be one of the toughest jobs an AD might encounter.
  10. Tennis Scoreboard Really wish WB would start doing something
  11. Win and people will recognize UNT and North Texas
  12. With the way coaches are leaving schools after 1 or 2 years, why would we expect players to just stay where they're at? The tone is set from the top. At least the players lose a year of eligibility. One could argue the coaches are a big part of why this is happening.
  13. He may not have directly hired an FBS coach, but he hired a hell of a football coach at Northwest Missouri State. One would also think he was involved in hiring and firing decisions as deputy AD at Memphis and Missouri.
  14. “Kids don’t respond to interim coaches like they would head coaches. Generally speaking that is the players’ worst academic semester. They are less focused in the weight room and in life. There are going to be more issues with behavior. For all of those reasons, I felt it wasn’t the right thing to do.”
  15. Interesting that a post that started as a list of things that the department is working on and trying to communicate to the fans has turned into this. Wren and the rest of the staff he brought in have a lot of experience in this business. They know what a good employee looks like, what an employee that needs more direction and support looks like, what a bad employee looks like, etc. I would assume that there are things going on that don't really fit into a positive letter to the fans about what is happening on Bonnie Brae. If you want all the info on the dirty laundry, it looks like there are some jobs open in the department. Apply and right the ship.
  16. I would have the IPF run perpendicular to the Athletic Center going from the existing outdoor field towards the IM field (IM field gets relocated). You end up with the same orientation as Apogee's field. The outdoor practice fields then fill the gap between the IPF and Bonnie Brae. You could also use some of that land next to the bus stop to add a new, larger weight room, offices, the new nutrition stuff that Baker mentioned in his letter, etc. that is connected/part of the IPF.
  17. Ahhh yes. UNT does a couple of things like the big boys like flying a private plane to see facilities in person and getting serious about a practice facility and people here are upset. SMH
  18. Or perhaps he is just making the point that Hank is a different person with different ideas than RV. Hank wasn't in position to buck his boss on everything that they ever disagreed on. Sometimes you have to go along with what your boss wants even when you disagree that it's the best way to go. I think you're very wrong about George caring more about his friend than UNT athletic success. You guys disagree about whether or not Hank could accomplish the goal of improving this place, and there's nothing wrong with that. No candidate will ever be everyone's first choice. The goal is to get behind whoever gets hired and support the student-athletes who bust their humps for this place. I think George will be on board with whoever is hired. Would he like it to be Hank? Sure. But I don't see him disappearing if it isn't Hank.
  19. How is it that George is bashed for endorsing Hank? George loves UNT as much as the next guy, knows a lot about the DFW sports scene and the way sports organizations work. I don't see anything in George's character that would suggest that he would put in a plug for a friend over his loyalty to UNT and Denton. So if he feels Hank is the guy for the job, he should be able to have his opinion. If you disagree, you should be able to have your opinion. Why throw insults and bash George? I don't get it. From what I've learned about George, he will get behind whoever gets hired. He has used his media platform to help promote UNT over the years, and I don't expect that to change one bit. He owns club seats, helped get the Bill Mercer room on the press level of Apogee come to completion and who knows what else for this university. I think his opinion deserves respect just like everyone else's.
  20. I agree that the football away guarantee game needs to end. I can't imagine a single player out there thinking they'd rather get their teeth kicked in at Alabama vs playing Houston at Apogee or even at Houston with a chance to win. Road trips are all business for players. I can't imagine they get some extra joy out of playing at some particular opponent venue. They just want to compete. I think putting them in position to win games is better than getting their teeth kicked in. Basketball is a different beast. A player or two on the court makes all the difference in potential outcome of the game, so I think you go play the big boys in basketball. You have a much better chance of the huge upset in basketball vs football. As far as the powder puff home football games, I can't imagine the buyouts being ridiculous to get out of an Apogee home game vs ACU and others. I say write the check and get out of those, assuming you have someone to backfill into the gap. Pay the buyouts and improve the fan experience for home games against people who fans would like to see.
