  1. “Give me your best pitch on why I should bring my talents to UNT.”
  2. Good grief... At least let an official announcement come out before you get out the pitchforks...
  3. Plot twist... Maybe he was never on the actual list.
  4. Since none of these on this list, outside of Fuente/Riley, really have much name recognition, I think it's going to be all about the coordinators they hire to determine how excited I would be about this hire.
  5. This is interesting, and not insignificant. There seems to have been a pretty hard press since WB took over to get Mattress Mack involved again.
  6. My source in the AD said they were going to hire Rusty Greer has Head Baseball Coach before they worry about the Head Football Coach position. Jared wants UNT to be known as a Baseball school.
  7. If you scroll Twitter under the @meangreensports post making this announcement, it’s very clear Jared is very popular amongst AD staff around the country.
  8. So my conspiracy theory is that it’s going to be Garrett Riley and they’re waiting on him to get back from New York and the Heisman ceremony.
  9. Let’s go! This is a good hire.
  10. Agreed. And for me that starts with the Athletic Center and new basketball arena. If Mosley gets those two pieces done, I’ll be ecstatic about where this program is headed.
  11. What better way to get alumni to support adding baseball than calling UNT a second rate institution? That’s a bold strategy.
  12. I know saying the S&C coach is the most important is kind of the "in" thing to say, but I just don't buy it. If we hire an offensive-minded coach, I'd say DC is most important with QB coach coming in a close second. If we hire a defensive-minded coach, I'd say OC is the most important. I'm also assuming OC is the QB coach.
  13. Scholarship offers are just that until signing day. Either party can walk away from it until the ink is on the paper on signing day. I don’t really think that’s bad. Players change verbal commitments all the time. Coach’s should be able to also. I think this type of thing happens all the time. I would hate for UNT’s new coach to be told he has to honor the current staff’s offers if he thinks a different player fits his system better or is just a better player.
  14. That head coaching record in the MVC… No, thanks! Bama’s o-line was one of their weaknesses this year.
  15. I don’t think either of these hires are one person’s hire. There’s a handful of people who will have input into both of these hires. I can’t imagine a new AD would get to come in and say, “I know y’all like these guys, but I’m going to hire….”
  16. Are you going to make us beg?
  17. Also, with these things, doesn't the Board of Regents come out and delegate authority to the president to negotiate the contract without having to get their approval for the parameters to be agreed to? I haven't seen anything on that yet.
  18. It has to do with diversity, equity, and access. You're going to have to show that you have given everyone qualified a fair shake at the position and not just made a "good ole boy" hire. The fear of getting sued would be from someone who says they are qualified for the job, but you just hired your buddy and they never had a shot at the job. That said, you can do that quickly and I think they can make an exception to the 10 day rule for certain positions on campus. HFC is probably one of those if they want it to be, especially given the urgency related to player retention and recruitment.
  19. Probably not for Delong. I can’t imagine there’s much incentive for media outlets breaking the news on a softball coach hire. I don’t remember if Wren used a search firm for Coach Mac or not. I would think some schools do hire search firms for basketball though.
  20. If you really want to see something from him, go Google coach statements after they’re fired and read it. They’re all the same. Just replace their school with UNT and the coach name with SL.
  21. From what I’ve seen, I think these search firms serve a couple of main duties: 1- They’re not subject to state freedom of information laws. This allows coaches and their agents to speak freely and often with someone about the position without fear of those conversations or even knowledge that those conversations happened ending up on ESPN. 2- They are typically very well connected to other coaches and ADs so they can help an AD get “insider” information on any candidates the AD might be interested in.
  22. @Brett Vito any word on the search firms they’re using?
  23. I've worked for multiple State of Texas higher education institutions and I'll tell you you can find ways to make a hire as fast as you need to for certain key positions on campus, head football coach included.
