What should our priority be: QB or Defense?
DentonLurker replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
This is such a strange argument. Somehow because other programs have done more with less, this program should just stop asking fans to step up? I’m glad you’re not in charge. -

I don’t have any doubt that this staff knows what they need and want at QB. If UTSA and UNT are not making him their top priority, both staffs obviously feel there are better options out there. -

What has he said or done to make you think this? I haven’t seen anything to make me think that.

GMG.com: We should blow up this roster like Colorado/Texas State. The portal is king! UNT Football: Blows up roster Also GMG.com: Why are we losing everyone? Something's wrong with this program. The portal is the death of college football!

So when they leave us do we let them come back?
DentonLurker replied to Tommy Gadberry's topic in Mean Green Football
To answer the original question… If I’m the coach and any player wanting to come back makes my team better, I’m welcoming you back with open arms. -
I’ve never heard anyone say it can’t be done.

Doing what they deem best for their own personal situation will make them miserable adults? Not to mention, some of the portal entries are encouraged by their current coaches.

Playoff bracket predictions?
DentonLurker replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
Sure it is. The best 4 teams should be in the playoffs. I believe they are. That said, I’m really glad they’re expanding the playoffs next year. -
Playoff bracket predictions?
DentonLurker replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
Those of you who think FSU got screwed, are you betting your paycheck on them winning against any of the 4 teams in the playoffs? I’m not. -
This thread is just a waste of keystrokes at this point

That's fair. Sure, you can. My point is just that I don't think you'll get away with not paying them their contracted rate as was being suggested. Maybe there's a clause that would allow that, but I doubt it.

Since schools aren't allowed to say the who of commitments until they sign, this is the school's way of showing love/excitement to the players who are committing. It also signals momentum to other recruits. I don't know why anyone would be annoyed by this.

Again, that's just not how contracts work. If it was that easy, then why wouldn't schools who want to get rid of any coach not just demote them to RB coach or some other random position @ $50k to get out of paying them their full salary?
-
NIL changes the game on this though. For most college football players, the reality is they won’t get drafted so if you can go get paid in college you should do it.

I’ve never signed a contract that would let someone lower my pay.

There are so many excuses for not supporting this program financially it gets exhausting. I’m just thankful we tax the students and don’t give them a choice. Otherwise, this program would be FCS or D2. ”I’ll support the program when <insert random measure of success>.”

Meh, if it’s personnel (as I tend to think it is) then a good coach isn’t going to publicly throw players under the bus. If it’s making any staff changes, again, he’s not going to say anything publicly until they make a change. So what are you wanting those talking points to be?

Did you write your check to buy him out?

What does this have to do with North Texas Football? We got out of that dumpster fire, thank goodness.

Not sure on pricing, but Tony Johnson with Assembly Line OL5 Camps is one of the best in the business. Although since he took the Copperas Cove job, I’m not sure if he’s still doing DFW camps. I’m also sure UNT will host camps this summer.
