North Texas Appearance: Last Chance U
baberuthbomber8 replied to baberuthbomber8's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
You don't see the struggle that some of them go through? Kid had both parent's killed when he was 5... The struggle is for them off the field going to class, and keeping up with grades not the talent on the field... -
Someone was posting about "Last Chance U" on Netflix.. UNT makes an appearance at about 30-35 minutes into Ep5. Would be great if we landed the DT Ollie, but kid def struggles with his grades.. Not sure who the UNT guy was talking too but hopefully we could start a pipeline with this school.

Wren Baker heavy favorite to be new AD at North Texas
baberuthbomber8 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree, keeping him around in some type of job would be nice as a way to help ease the burden of the entire job at the start. But the job needs to be something he excels or would excel at if its even in just community contact with local business, etc...- 27 replies

I would prefer he won football games over sounding like George Foreman in that order, but hey your order can differ... But honestly, its good to see him talk about the program and not be dripping with sweat like at the first presser.... -

'17 DT Junius King (Mesquite Horn)
baberuthbomber8 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I was just reading his info on scouts and apparently the DT next to him is going to TCU, I wonder if schools believe he was given less attention because of the guy next to him? I hadn't heard of Horn till this kid it was a HS that got overlooked. While height isn't important I think schools would like that, also he could have been a back up target for bigger schools instead of being a priority for us? Could be schools are scared off by the size and how teams run the spread now? -
'17 DT Junius King (Mesquite Horn)
baberuthbomber8 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I agree with the information about the size, that he probably shorter and maybe alot shorter possibly. I wonder if schools think he will only put on more weight and not grow in height. I agree with JayD that this kid could be a huge sleeper, and I think he has gotten passed over because of other bigger schools in the area(not sure how Horn ranks in term of record,etc.). To me, this kid is a Brandon Kennedy-space eating player, but he seems to have the ability to rush from the inside as well. Just going to say in 2/3 years.. can you image if this kid and english turn out as hoped. that is alot of beef in the middle of the DLine. Also, I remember a random post on here with a top 10/20/25 of players in the State of Tx or in the DFW that had not commited anyplace, was King on that list? Hopefully someone remembers the post I'm talking about as well. -
could we break this at the C-USA meetings this week???

I think if we even go 1 of these 3 games, that is a good for us.. We just need to put in solid performances.. because last year I think the team was honestly phoning it in after the homecoming blow out. I do agree about that defense, with the depth it seems that we have a few spots at LB and DB it seems.. with a few additions along the D-Line in Hoston, the blue-shirt DT.. I "should be" greatly improved, I think Ekler will make this defense very aggressive and take a lot of chances as well. I'm afraid that the defense could do so well we lose him next year, which would suck but it would show at least we had a great year.. The offense I think is in good hands with SL and GH, I think they are smart enough to run what will be best for us and not try to force something that doesnt work. With that said, I think alot will come down to the OL and how they do. With that said I think it would go along way for the coaches and fanbase if Hayes and Johnson are here(which I think is still up in the air) because the 2 of them should be impact players within their position groups. I agree, but I honestly think we just need to look for solid match ups. If the team is motivated and challenged like I think that it will be by our coaches, this could be a year we surprise some teams. I do think 3 wins would be a miracle, but I also believe that we will be alot more competitive then we had been last year.. I could see winning 2 or 3 games, but with us playing it close in some/most of the others.
-
I feel as if our Defense will play with alot more energy and should be alot more motivated... with the likes of Hoston, the LBs that we have brought in, along with Ekler. Also, I think SL and GH are smart enough to adjust their gameplay to what fits this team best.... I don't think our staffs in the past did that.
-
Not shocking, but would like/hope that we can win 3-4 games.. would be a very big reach for 6 wins.. but if the Defense plays as well as they should and offense plays avg. I could see us surprise a few teams. Our offense i think will be only as good as the OLine will let us be.. Defense I think could be in the top 30/40, possibly higher if everyone works out? or does that seem like a stretch?

Honestly at UNT, if we have a successful, and hopefully a few years in a row of being successful, we can bring in some talented QBs. We need to sale the HS QBs on NFL teams will come find you even if your at a smaller school... Big Ben, Wentz, Bridewater, Carr, Culpepper, etc.... Also, honestly we need Morris to talk to the QB's we bring in and tell them about the pros/cons of a big school vs UNT. Pro-teams look more at tape look more what you have done and what you could do in the future.. Yes it helps going up in a bigger conference, but lower levels still get picked early and often as well. Like the QB Murray that went to A&M and now transferred to OU, he left bc every year A&M brings in 4/5* QBs... honestly he coulda came here last year and dominated and started day 1, but the appeals of big schools always draw in kids for them to compete.

Kyle Townsend WR Conroe, TX (Oak Ridge)
baberuthbomber8 replied to Withers940's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I'm assuming that we are at the top of his list, but he doesn't wanna commit/lock-in yet to UNT? Solid talent, hopefully we can get a few more kids like this guy. -
How to get fans to the games??
baberuthbomber8 replied to MeanGreen_MBA's topic in Mean Green Football
If thats true about protecting the turf, its a super lame reason... I remember tearing down the field goal posts then then everyone carrying it out of the stadium at Fouts LOL. and to the about giving away tickets... Wonder if we could create or title it in a way that boosters could donate/buy tickets for players.. or do something like this.. It may lead to more kids from the area coming to UNT for games, which then could lead to a few more staying at home.. -
agreed, and don't get why he would take a class(if he is, unless it is an attempt to get into UNT)... Just worried bc I believe Dee posted up a picture on twitter of him and some of the other JUCO guys... Johnson nor Haynes were it in, but neither was Hoston or the RB and few others... Was hoping we could get some info from someone linked to Johnson about if he has made it or not is all :/ wasn't sure if someone like one the forum like Vito, etc. talked to them or could get a hold of them to find out...

How to get fans to the games??
baberuthbomber8 replied to MeanGreen_MBA's topic in Mean Green Football
-UNT should contact old supporters of the program, offer them a few games tickets for free... bring back some old fans that aren't interested and doesn't really hurt with the # of empty seats... UNT could then make some $ off them through parking and whatever they buy at the game.. -Also, they could offer cookouts to former boosters... --Not sure if this is allowed, but would be great if we could offer something to students for them to come and fill the stadium, such as they get extra credit in class or something to this nature, with free food from the Union or something... -Do something with the bars on fry street possibly for Students that are over 21... such as they bring in game tickets or something... -Not sure if this is done anymore, but I remember at Fouts when we were going to the Bowl Games, fans could go out on the field after the game and play out on the field... -Not sure if this could/would be done.. but could be a big boost in terms of $ to the program.. is maybe having a few coaches break down game film a few hours after the game.. and then we could have the likes of Johnny Quinn, Orr, Robertson, Dunbar, J.Thomas, B.Kennedy, etc come and be quest speakers to break down film as well or even have them do it during the game... -Would also think it would be great if the football program did something like they set aside tickets for any HS kid to walk up and get tickets... Maybe make it the Head Football Coaches of the HS teams, sign something and the kids just give to the office for a free ticket/tickets.. would be nice to help improve the # of kids that would consider walking on and also, we would see which HS have the most kids come so we know where to focus or expand our visits... -Last but not least, work out something with local hotels for fans to get discounted rooms... The thing that I think hurts UNT compared to the likes of UT, UTSA, TCU, SMU, etc is that those colleges have a bunch of stuff for people to do when they go down.. Would be great if we were to expand and develop around the stadium to attract more fans. -
now the question is... Is William Johnson with them or back in AZ??? would message these guys but not sure if that is allowed.. Hoping we can get word from someone on here about the status of Haynes and Johnson..
