You can't guarantee Frank Wilson would have the same problems. He was hired because he is a recruiter, SL has never been deemed such. People recognize the potential SL has as a coach and he took a 1 win program to a bowel game in his 1st year. That's why people want him. Stock is high but does not change the fact that we have been in the bottom half of recruiting in the CUSA every class with SL. This is the 3rd class and the pattern is we can't beat anyone that can compare to us. I'm not upset we aren't beating UT or OU. Hell I get even SMU, LA Tech, Marshall. But when we have NEVER beat UTSA out for a recruit and RICE is getting players we have offered, it's a problem. Even if an offer list is UNT, SFA, and Abilene Christian I would still be nervous about getting that recruit. You can quickly turn a program around, It happens all the time! W. Michigan had a quick turn around a few yrs ago and kept building on it through last yr just the latest example.

My Point!! An FCS school in NORTH DAKOTA gets just about the same players as we do! We are in the metroplex of the best football in the nation! Don't you see somthing wrong that we just barley beat an FCS school!? If you don't think we need better recruiters than what would you suggest "fix " our football program? Only way I see it is to get better football players in here.

How many of the current recruits considered a recruiting battle win? That's what upsets me. We have to hope we find a under recruited player and how not even our conference rivals notice them. With the rumors of SL not staying long, He's not stacking up the cupboard for the next guy, much like Dan did to us. -
In all fairness Orr should have been drafted, even more so looking hindsight. But you're correct, we aren't a pipeline to the NFL. But again, doesn't that go to recruiting talented enough players in the first place? Like @BillySee58 said. Good recruiters can recruit anywhere! I know its FCS but how the hell does North Dakota St get kids. Not now because they have been a power for a long time, but how did they get kids to go to North Freaking Dakota before they are the power they are now. I was excited to get SL here with some youth because I thought he would understand the recruiting aspect, or at least be better at it than we have become accustom to.

Even if that were true, why wouldn't UTSA be as difficult, or FAU? Those have nothing better than us as far as tract record or facilities. They both have coaches that get recruiting is one of the biggest aspects in turning a program around. Coaching and development is big but you have to have talent to maximize that mindset. One of my biggest disappoinment with this staff is the lack of improvement with recruiting from the previous one.

Another one... We are quickly falling behind... I would have hoped our big camp would have netted at least one recruit. -
This is unacceptable... UTSA is not a better program than us. We are clearly lacking somewhere in the recruiting process and needs to be addressed immediately. This is not a small matter.

Losing a lot of recruiting battles to schools we should at least be competitive with... I don't like this -

Don't care about running back height in college, especially if they are thicker backs. Small backs are successful every yr in college! I'd be very happy if we got this kid. -
Shaping up much like the previous class... Littrell isn't a recruiter.. that's a fact.. good coach yes, recruiter..no

Antonio Gage Officially Decommits
p_phelps replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Did he really get hurt??? Could be a pulled offer? Either way, never felt great about his commitment. I like the process of recruiting as I went through it myself but I feel the way he went about it rub people wrong... Move on and get talent to UNT. -
Catchy unis are a huge attraction to recruits, current students, and recent alumni. Nearly all young people like updated unis , much like we like updated technology. Blink of an eye and you're behind. We should be as updatedas much as possible considering out lack of power on TX as we speak. As unfortunate as it is.

This kid.... -
Mybad, They lost to Clemson in the ACC championship when Clemson was #1. ( UNC probably should have won the game). My point is I don't think SL leaves for anything but another HC job unless we dont do well on the field.
-
SL was an OC for UNC when they were in the final four, why would he go backwards back to an OC? I know his alma mater but I can't see it at all. We will have to fight like hell to keep him when they look to get a perm HC though.

Looked like his Birthday, maybe that tweet was completely unrelated to his recruiting. -

I know his brother and talked to him a while back... Grades are an issue here. ( Carson) -
I was thinking the same thing, and if I'm not mistaken the QB before him also made it to the league. Wyoming seems to be able to find QB talent so it makes me feel even better about Mr. Pearson, not to mention I played juco baseball in Texarkana so I have some affection for them.
-
Don't get me wrong, I'd absolutely love it. I just have seen this story from him before. Until we see him in official practice or even on a roster I won't believe it.
-
It's said they for a long time now... Don't hold your breath...he's not playing for us.

I had a rec class with Willie and he was so fun to be around. He gave everyone in the class a nickname, such a great guy and taken far too soon.

UTSA's New DL Coach is former Bama guy
p_phelps replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
I do, I'm still bitter how the past recruiting season went, I'll stop being a sour puss when spring ball starts most likely. and while its all well and good to be happy about your recruiting class, you have NO IDEA if they will turn out to be good. It's cool to post in your own team forum ( as non existent as that may be) when you think you have a solid class but when you come to boast about it to other teams is pretty dumb for lack of a better word. W-L we are on the same level, school is not even close we win hands down, city we win and I've lived in both. You win in the off-season as much as the Washington redskins used to win every off-season with the same results on the field. So kick rocks. -
