  1. Who is/was responsible for picking these? Was this an RV or Mac thing?
  2. Yep, where the girls go, fraternities will follow. Unless it's Delta Zeta. Then they run away. Fast.
  3. Obviously, this is a huge hindrance. So many people are going to remember that game. One thing that will help the cause, and I say this as a dude from one of the organizations (in all caps, so prepare yourselves)- GET THE LAZY, STUPID GREEKS TO THE DAMN GAME! They can drink in there. They're loud, obnoxious and are given carte blanche to act in this manner in the student section. Since I'm watching from afar, is this still an issue or do they participate? And, yes, I practiced what I preached. I went to every home game while I was there. The only continuous presence was wings, the weird Lambda Chi's that did push ups on the field- but at least they went and got involved.
  4. Well, bad publicity is better than no publicity?
  5. Streaming game on tablet while drinking ice cold Asahi and Orion Southern Star eating teppanyaki (at least being in Japan makes it feel exotic)
  6. Well, when you can afford personal shoppers, it's easy to do that. Custom Brooks Brothers, I assume?
  7. It's your team's posting board. I said initially I'm using you "in generalities". The general attitude on that board is what fuels a lot of the ill will held by some here.
  8. @MJavierSMU the frequency is actually increasing, especially now that we have a coach who actually goes and does his job. Look. I get it. The minute you admit that we have something here as rivals, you're no longer the storied program that won a national championship that carries the same legitimacy that TAMU's has. There's contempt. You guys look at us like we're the trashy school that anyone can get into and we'll be pumping gas into your car upon graduation. We look at you as the school that has, well, "Save SMU sailing" on your BBS board (sell some old topsiders and move on- or does Muffy plan to give those away when she's "summering" in the hamptons to that poor family that does the dishes?) TCU has outgrown you, and come on, Baylor? They're going to go down in history as the only school that covered up murder and serial rape to save their athletic program. Really want them as your big game? And, Houston is moving on to the Big XII probably. You're all alone. Saddle up, SMU. Let's hate each other and put it on t-shirts. While I'll agree that you need to embrace your anger and the hate keeps you warm, change will do you good. Acknowledge what everyone else sees. BTW, the last time NCAA Football was released, it had us as rivals. So, i think that pretty much settles it.
  9. I think you're in denial at best, delusional at worst. Look, this is not a personal attack against you, but it's going to describe your entire fan base (all 11 of them)... Nobody cares about the "National Championship"- it's looked upon with the same level of legitimacy as TAMUs. The only time since the 1940s that you had a respectable football team, it was because you had a payroll higher than the Miami Dolphins. So, when I read on your posting board that you are curious as to why you're not ranked as high on the list of college football blue bloods, it leads to me spilling my coffee on my lap as I'm laughing so hard. Secondly, you have the same garbage attendance woes that we experience. You can't get people to go to the games that are not students. And, your ticket counters become task force Enron and cook the numbers to try to keep up with TCU's attendance numbers. Third, we both struggle to get talent to stay home, especially with the big red threat emerging down in Houston, on top of TCUs continued success. You had a string of bowl appearances for four years (granted more recent than ours) and we had a string of bowl appearances. The only difference between the two programs is yours has a story of success (which nobody but you remembers) and that manages to carry you to a better reputation than us. You had the death penalty because you cheated your collective @$$e$ off and still didn't get a NC out of it (still laugh about the holiday bowl- who blows a lead that big). Your program cratered, and still has not recovered. We dropped to 1-aa and still haven't recovered. We have a young, energetic staff that came from successful stints everywhere he went, you have the same. Face it- we are the SAME program. WE are rivals. You guys just don't want to admit it because if you do, it means you're no longer the pony express-which, come on guys, let it go. It's no longer the late 70s, early 80s. Get over yourselves. Embrace it. Your coach does.
  10. So, since my replacement is here and my turnover is done, I find myself with copious amounts of time vice work, so I wandered over to ponyfans.com to get a glimpse of the high levels of intellectual banter which a semi-prestigious institution passes time on the inter webs. Some of the highlights include: -complaining about ESPN's listing of the blue blood programs and the fact that they are not listed on par with Penn State (which I'm pretty sure was a top 10 program) -blaming us for the fact that our game this weekend is not on local TV (cause, it's hard to drive 40 minutes away to sit with the commoners and be in vicinity of our shanty towns, plus their stellar performance over the last few years has garnered national recognition and acclaim), thus using this as their supposed ammunition for why in no way, shape or form they should continue to schedule games with us. - still screaming at the top of their lungs about how they should be in the Big 12 -making fun of our website, cause, you know, there's is the gold standard. However, what I found striking about my visit to the internet's equivalent of the 8th circle of hell was more often than not, they find themselves complaining about the same type of stuff that we do- how to get the local community more behind the program, schedule complaints, responsive reactions from the AD staff and, obviously, trying to gain back market share which they lost so long, long ago. Outside of the whole cash and general douchebaggery thing they got going on over there, we're more similar than they want to admit. THIS is the makings of a rivalry. However, until they decide to get out of denial and admit that this game amounts to more than just another "home" game for them, this thing could really get heated. Again, I'm bored and have 40 days left on this rock which is the equivalent of being stuck in purgatory for half an eternity. Also, you're each welcome for your daily dose of Dante.
  11. Unfortunately, splashy sells in today's world. We have to adapt with the times and pull out all the stops to make us the destination for G5 football in the state, on before we begin to topple the 4 state region.
  12. That's legit. This guy, thus far, seems to be on point.
  13. So long as it's fixed, sweet.
  14. I think we grossly overestimate the quality of our conference opponents. They're not world beaters. I think by virtue of the element of surprise we should easily beat SMU (and they're just not very good). BC and Army are games we should win. The only game I see us not winning is Florida- simply because it's Florida. We would have won a few more games last year if we didn't give up right before the Portland State game. The team flat out quit. Right/Wrong/Indifferent, that is the truth. Had the team not quit (and hadn't used the UTEP game as a participation trophy game) we would have won another few games. While enthusiasm is not a capability, shear effort will allow a few toss ups to go our way. Yeah, I know we are grossly undermanned, but I don't think we're nearly as outgunned as some people think we are. I think 4 or 5 wins is achievable, which (1) will solidify SL as a kick ass hire and (2) generate some solid buzz in the metroplex on which we can capitalize- a new concept lost on our previous, work-ethically challenged athletic director.
  15. I really hope that video never saw the light of day. Absolutely terrible. My eyes will never be the same after watching that macabre display of half assed marketing.
  16. I'm an Arlington Martin guy, so I'd like to see a pipeline from there. I don't even know if we're good. I haven't kept up with HS football since I graduated.
  17. Uh... the link takes you to a page not found. Good job, DRC.
  18. Anybody around campus able to give any insight on the vibe around campus? Has school even started yet?
  19. When we win next week, we need to capitalize in the media ON A MASSIVE SCALE. Get into the media and start talking about how after two of the last three years we have crushed them, it's rumored they wish to terminate the series like the cowards that they are and they can't beat us. Start spitting some serious venom and get nasty with it. Next year, get a banner flying over Ford Field on game day welcoming everyone to the UNT home opener. Go Jackie Sherrill on Peruna and mutilate it (maybe a bit too far). If we really want to build this into a heated rivalry, winning and never letting them hear the end of it is what it will take. Time for some serious PsyOps. Reality of the situation- Middle Tennessee kind of started a nasty rivalry with the bounties on our players. So, I would go with them. Talking to a buddy of mine that went there, the students actually did get into it pretty hardcore.
  20. Transparency is pivotal in trying to rapidly improve the program. If we, as donors (big or small) know what needs to be fixed, we can then mobilize and make a concerted effort to ensure that appropriate, responsive shortfalls are administered appropriately. This is really where RV running his secretive program, only letting 17 people know about what was REALLY happening, was a huge failure. We were left in the dark. Look to historical examples on GMG.com not a year ago. A minuscule few came up with enough scratch in a matter of 10 days (90 correct me if I'm wrong) for a widely contentious banner. If the full support of (as far as I know) the largest collection of supporters can be united, which I'm sure the funds required for a vastly improved locker room would receive universal support, we can knock this out in very, very short order. Perhaps someone with one of the tweeter accounts can reach out to WB and see what the deal is. Let him know we're ready to help, if he crosses the bridge and tells us with what he needs help.
