  1. You can download the game on Vimeo..... I did
  2. Read this on the FCS Championship forum, mainly because it concerns one of our coaches, but it gives list of those who have applied. REPORT: Tim Horton applies for North Texas opening
  3. SB*Nation writer Kevin Trahan is recommending Iowa State hire University of Montana head coach Bob Stitt Iowa State's coaching hire should be outside-the-box. We recommend Bob Stitt.
  4. Ed Lamb is a finalist for Coach of the Year in the FCS along with our Coach Barnum FCS Coach of the Year finalists unveiled
  5. Cal Poly runs a triple option mainly because as Head Coach Tim Walsh admits that because of the high admission standards of the institution, he can't recruit the same players other schools can,so the triple option is the best option for him. Even then his teams are usually very competitive in the Big Sky. This year they led the FCS in rushing wish an average of 387 yds per game and tied for 8th in total offense with an average of 488 yds per game. Don't let their current record fool you, Many of the Big Sky considered Cal Poly the best 4-7 team in the conference. They did beat playoff bound Montana 20-19, Big Sky bottom dwellers Idaho State 58-26, Sacramento State 36-14 and UC-Davis 55-36. Cal Poly had an extremely tough OOC schedule (AZ State (6-5 Pac-12) L 35 -21, University of Northern Iowa (7-4 playoff qualifier) L 34-20, plus tough losses to us (PSU) 38-35, Eastern Washington 42-41 in OT. The only games they got blown out in was against Southern Utah(Big Sky Champion) 54-37 who has the best defense in the conference and leads the nation in turnovers and North Dakota (whom many believe was screwed out of a playoff spot) 45-21. Would a triple option work for UNT? It might mainly because it can be a "copper-plated bitch" to plan for because it allows for so many options in an offense. Cal Poly Stats
  6. We played SUU last week. Ed Lamb isn't a coach who is afraid to take chances. We beat them 24-23 only because he chose to go for a two point conversion for the win instead of a field goal for a tie. Coach Barnum is a big fan of this guy. He jokingly calls him the Lavell Edwards (BYU coaching great) of the Big Sky. He may not have Texas ties, but he knows how to recruit and has brought some really good players to his program. He is currently 44-46 and 26-21 in conference as a head coach from 2008 till now. It if it is a losing record, it's just barely Ed Lamb
  7. I wanted to add a GIF, but it says I'm allowed to upload 20.4 kb. so I have a new term for the Mean Green Lexicon....... Getting Portland Stated Only a joke
  8. if Portland State does make it to Frisco, can we expect some Mean Green support to cheer us on?
  9. It is, but I'm here on the ass end of the world for the rest of this school year and probably the next. Hopefully Coach Barnum can keep things going a long time like Eastern Washington has for the last few years.
  10. With our last victory of 35-16 over University of Montana Grizzleys and a 7-1 record, Portland State is now ranked #10 in the STATS FCS poll and tied for #9 in the FCS coaches poll. We have three games left, a road game at Big Sky cellar dweller Northern Colorado Bears (possible trap game), and games against the Big Sky leaders Southern Utah Thunderbirds (home game) and at Eastern Washington Eagles (rivalry game for the Dam Cup). 8 wins and hopefully we will be a seeded team in the FCS national championship tourney or one at least of the teams getting an at large selection.
  11. First unlike FBS, which is required to hand out full ride schollies, FCS can split scholarships into either a half or a quarter to help fill a roster. Barnum just bumped up the players he thought deserved a full ride based on what they contributed. According to the roster, out of 99 names on the roster, only 26 were either JUCO grads or FBS transfers. Since FCS is allowed 63 scholarships, there is still enough left to spread around to the HS players who Barnum thinks deserves a full or partial ride. It works out to just over 15 scholarships per class. A player has to sit out a year if he transfers with the same level, hence if a FBS player drops down to FCS or an FCS player drops down to D-II they eligible to play right away.
  12. I did't mean to be snooty.... I just thought that the last thing you wouldn't want to hear all week wouldn't be how good you were, but a constant reminder about what happened the last time we met. We have been dealing with that this week with our game with Montana and and all the smack that is going on their fan forums about the lack of success against we've had against them in previous meetings.
  13. Any chance once your team gets things turned around, you may want to reschedule Portland State for a revenge game, or do you guys hope to never see us again?
  14. I want to thank y'all for your hospitality and courtesy. I enjoyed my visit here and sharing what I know about Portland State and the likes I got for my posts. But as Coach Barnum told his players, It's time to focus on our next game on our next game. For the rest of the season we will be taking care of business trying to make our mark in the Big Sky. I will be checking in every now and then to see how y'all are doing and when my family and I return to Texas, hopefully we can come for a game and meet y'all face to face. Until then, best of luck for the rest of the season and the future. Until then Caseyorourke
  15. When Barnum took control he did some in-house recruiting to give some players who he felt had contributed to the program and he felt hey needed to be rewarded. Here is the information on our 2015 signing day interview. 2015 Signing Day Interview with Portland State Head Football Coach Bruce Barnum
  16. Highlights from the Vikings vs North Texas - Portland State Football Radio calls by Portland Radio announcer Tom Hewitt
  17. Still, speaking as an outsider looking in, I can't think of anything more humiliating to a coach to be called into the AD's office after a big loss and fired. I know it wasn't done in front of the players, but you know that in this age of social media, they knew about it almost as soon as it happened.
  18. Like I said, we went through our "all black phase" during the Glanville years. Thankfully we ditched these uniforms for game wear (they have been relegated to practice jerseys) and gone back to our traditional green. I also hope we have gotten rid of those awful black helmets with the silver spear down the middle and returned to our old logo. Although I thought the camo uniforms we wore last year were extra cool.
  19. Nearly every video and picture of McCarney I see him wearing his sunglasses. Does he wear these things everywhere? It reminds me of "The Phantom" comic strip where Kit Walker wears sunglasses when out of costume.
  20. Well, PSU has only been around since 1946, so we aren't exactly the twin separated from birth, but rather more like your long lost illegitimate little brother.
  21. Another thing we share, Portland State also has a strong tradition in music and the arts. One proposal that has been bouncing around is for PSU to merge with Oregon Health & Sciences University and Oregon Institute of Technology and change our name to "Oregon State and Polytechnic University" (shortened to Oregon Tech (like Virginia Tech)). and emphasize how we are a school with a strong history of the arts and looking to combine that with cutting edge technology.
  22. It was unintentional, I assure you, but it is really eerie to have two universities so far apart and so diverse, sharing s history. But PSU and all the Willamette Valley, including UO, OSU, Lewis & Clark, Reed College and every other university east of the Cascades are some of the most liberal institutions, whereas I would assume that UNT (being in Texas) is more of a conservative institution. When I went there, I felt like a square conservative peg trying to fit in a very round liberal hole.
  23. The only problem with the Oregonian, is that 99% of their sports coverage centers around the Ducks (UO), Beavers (OSU) and the Trailblazers (NBA). Portland State hardly rates a mention other than a passing mention in the sports section. Part of the problem was that in 1955, when Portland State University was still Portland State College, then UO president Owen Meredith Wilson, tried to stymie PSC development claiming that according to a 1929 ruling by the Oregon University System , "that no public university or college in Oregon could duplicate the programs offered by another, with grandfathered exclusions for the University of Oregon and Oregon State University," successfully convincing the state legislature to pass legislation to protect UO's enrollment and hinder PSC's. In 1961 we began to offer graduate studies, 69 we were granted university status and in 72 offered doctorate programs.
  24. I wish, but right now I'm on the opposite side of the world working in China teaching history and geography to Chinese students who are planning on attending college in the U.S. Besides my wife and three year old may not like the idea of daddy going to strip joints.
  25. I really miss Shiner beer. But I also miss all the choices I had in Portland. It's unofficial nickname was "Beertopia" because it has so many brewpubs (more than Cologne Germany). I used to joke with my friends in Kerrville that in Portland you could find a brewpub on every other street corner and a strip club on the other.
