I have to say, I've not been a fan of all of his tweets but this one, I like. Not everybody in the portal was encouraged to leave as was suggested might be the case. That said, the staff seems to be pressing forward. I'm know coach O won't be here forever but while he's here, he seems determined to make this program the best he can make it.

It's a great idea. Soccer is one of the most popular and profitable sports in Europe and there's a reason why. They've spent decades working through the system you outlined and it gives everybody a way to succeed while specifically rewarding the teams who properly identify young talent. We've gone from a system where the players have no power to one where they have all the power. When the dust settles, I think all of this will have taken a completely different form. The reality is, if players want to be treated as professionals while in college, they're going to have to take the bad that comes with it. Sooner than later, the big boosters will want to protect their investments instead of dumping money into players who leave every year.

I certainly agree with this and posted it in another thread that if the coaches are smart, they'll show all prospects (especially our offensive guys) that UNT is where you can come to raise your profile and then get paid elsewhere. If you're a HS recruit who didn't get the big P5 offer, come kill it here and then you can use your free transfer to get paid elsewhere after a couple of years. If you're a transfer with 2-3 years left, come kill it here and then you can use your grad transfer to get paid elsewhere. I follow European soccer and there's several soccer teams that have had sustained success by developing young talent even knowing the players will eventually leave for bigger teams. Having those premier talents allows them to compete with the biggest teams over there when they otherwise couldn't afford the players necessary to compete. It certainly can be done here as well. I'm not as worried about players leaving as others but I definitely think there needs to be more structure in place. I don't know if the solution is penalties after your first transfer such as sitting out 6 games or maybe being required to stay with a program 2 years before transferring. I understand coaches can leave for better jobs without penalty but in pro sports, just because your coach leaves it doesn't mean you get to break your contract. If the players want to be treated as pros, they need to take the good with the bad.

It's just a made up number based on an algorithm. https://www.on3.com/nil/news/about-on3-nil-valuation-per-post-value/

'Twas in my original question but that was never answered. Should we expect players to start committing after bowl games when more guys enter the portal? Is it normal for things to be so quiet or in typical G5 fashion are we just waiting for the P5s to fill up so we can pick from what's left?

This argument reminds me of the sovereign citizens saying they don't need a driver's license because they have the constitutional right to travel. You can travel with your own two legs all you want but you're driving on a roadway you do not own and therefore must follow the rules. You can take your ball and play football alone if you'd like but if you're in a league you must follow the rules set forth. Nobody is entitled to be part of an entity without following the rules the entity wants to enforce.

Exactly which is why now I'm wondering what this cycle should look like. When do players really start committing?
-
But in baseball you have them for the duration of their contracts and you can trade assets for areas of need. You don't risk losing performing players every year. This is not the same.
-
Considering we were late to the portal game last year and I don't follow other programs much, when can we expect commitments to start rolling in? I realize nothing is done until they're actually on campus but I'd feel a bit better about our fate if I saw some commitments. If our coaches are savvy, they could use this portal cycle to show potential recruits UNT is where you can come to raise your profile and then get paid elsewhere. There is still hope for year to year success.

Not a problem. It happens.

What you've posted about how money was spent is absolutely correct. I posted this in another thread but players getting paid initially wasn't even about "name image and likeness" in its current definition. The issue was schools were making all of this media money off the work of student athletes. The athletes wanted a piece of the pie just like pro athletes do in the sense that NFL/NHL/NBA salary caps are based on the media money figures. Instead, schools are still keeping all of the media money and players are getting paid from private donations. I think unionizing and collective bargaining is certainly an option. It's going to take big players at big programs not getting paid the NIL money they believed they were going to get paid. The solution is going to force a revisit to the use of media money because that's the only true contracted source of external revenue. The NCAA needs to gain control of the conferences and there needs to be one TV media rights deal that splits the revenue equally amongst all programs. Somebody smarter than me will need to figure out how to address FCS, D2 and so on and if they get their own media deals based on their classification. For years, the conversation on this board was should we have a coach focused on Jimmys and Joes or Xs and Os. To me, the Xs and Os coach is going to dominate this era of college football. Get the guys who can coach people up quickly to fit their schemes, plug, and play. No matter what talent you attract, you can't count on them staying year to year. Scheme and coaching needs to be the focus. We, as in NT, appear to have that on offense. Defense is yet to be determined.

What frustrated me is that on replay it was obvious the only reason Allen didn't get the rebound is he was pushed in the back. They blew the whistle on everything, especially ticky tacky pushes in the back, but they didn't blow that one. Jones and Scott play a physical brand of basketball. It's how they've been coached. The refs didn't allow physical play all night but on that Edwards drive to the rim, they allowed it twice. And I have to ask, has anybody ever seen this many travels called on a player falling to the ground after a loose ball/rebound? They blew a travel on us in that situation 2-3 times, not including all the other iffy travels they called on NT. I feel if this game is played with non-Boise friendly refs, we win. 17 game home winning streak, right?
-
What's been underwhelming is shooting jumpers when the other team is in foul trouble. Get to the damn rim and draw contact. No reason to lose a 6 point lead with 2 minutes left.
-
Poor end of game execution has been a theme now.
-
I can see why they have a 16 game home winning streak with these refs.
-
Win the free throw battle down the stretch and we'll win the game.
-
Edwards just showed why...
-
We're in the bonus i believe. Need to get to the rim and force contact. 2/10 from 3 so cut the jumpers.
-
The refs are definitely home cooking with these bs calls.

The first sentence of the first paragraph: "I don't blame those kids at all." The first sentence of the second paragraph: "These kids are being taken advantage of and I hate it for them." I expressed concern that kids were being misled and were risking their educational futures every time they entered the portal. Where did I bash the players?

Just what I posted. Go through the site, there's more recent posts. Some were video/audio. Regardless, the site is not dead and vlogging is a form of blogging.

Started off an 8-0 run. Now 10-7 at the first break. Some lazy defense and awkward handling by Scott. He's trying to do too much. Just needs to take what's given to him.

I'm looking for Scott and Sissoko to have big games. We desperately need them on their A game for these next 3 games starting today.
