  1. I sure hope this isn't the hold-up on Seals. With respect to Williams, his D1 playing experience does not compare with Seals'.
  2. We've got 3 commitments so far today. One should be a DL commit. Per coaches on Twitter. Edit to add a proper source for the DL comment as well:
  3. This team would be undefeated if they could finish layups through contact.
  4. Crap man
  5. 1 point game...
  6. Guess I'll just follow the stats
  7. So how do we watch?
  8. I really think things will slow down for many of these players after their first transfer. These young guys aren't getting the Covid year so they'll get their free transfer and then their grad transfer, unless they don't redshirt. We'll certainly see big transfer classes every year until the system changes but you won't see as many multiple time transfers as we're seeing now That's the other big factor I think we're seeing play out. Those who went to the biggest offer they had may realize their playing time will be limited and choose to transfer out. It's also a good opportunity for our coaches to rebuild quickly. Like I said above, once the covid year players move on, I don't think we'll see as big of an exodus as we've seen this year.
  9. Stone Earle is going back to ACU. Hope he does well.
  10. Honestly, this is exactly the type of transfer we should be going after. Redshirt freshman who's spent 2 seasons in a P5 strength and conditioning program. He has P5 size, something we lack, and he'll use his free transfer to come in. We can have him for 3 seasons before he can leave again (unless be wants to sit out a season). He's also from DFW so this is coming home for him. If you're not excited by this commitment, you're just looking for reasons to be negative.
  11. It's a different era. With more than 1500 players in the portal, there's bound to be legit talent transferring for playing time out of that 1500+.
  12. Considering we only have 1 QB on the roster and our defense was the worst ranked in FBS, I'd say the staff needs to make everything a priority.
  13. Therein lies the problem. It's not true NIL, it's paying guys to exist on their roster. I'd say there's very few college football players who have a big enough impact to be remembered after college without making it to the NFL. That said, 98% of college players aren't going to make it to the NFL and I'd guess 99.9% of that 98% who don't make it aren't big enough in college to actually earn any significant name, image, and likeness money. They're just getting paid to exist on the roster and if they're good, it's pay for play.
  14. Might be. I knew it was one of the two punters.
  15. No clue but Rauschenberg is out of eligibility and Sawyer Evans transferred. Can never have too many kickers/punters. They can be real game changers.
  16. Looks like commitment number 2 is a kicker from Flower Mound. https://www.kohlskicking.com/player-profiles/miguel-arenas
  17. Exactly and it looks like the staff sees things the same way.
  18. The loan system may be much but the aspect of euro soccer where the previous team has to be paid a transfer fee would make sense in this system. Ok, very rich school, you want our star QB? Fine but based on valuations, he's worth 1 million and we need 500k to let him out of his contract with the school which he signed when he accepted our scholarship. This would require all earnings to be made public. It would also mean students could be forced to remain at their school even if they want to return closer to home or their coach takes a new job. I personally don't see the conflict with them being students and where they choose to get their education as others have suggested. To me, if you want to be treated as a professional, you can't just pick and choose what that looks like to you. If you want to get paid, you're a pro, and as such, contracts have to exist and you may be forced to remain at a school you no longer want to attend because you chose to take the scholarship. The transfer fees could then be used for new recruits. It's a good system.
  19. Was just about to post this commitment. 247 shows him as a New Mexico State commitment so looks like our staff flipped him. I will add that our staff may be looking at recruiting and roster management differently moviny forward based on the tweet below.
  20. If I had to guess, this ULM transfer offensive lineman is one. I've seen several NT related tweets from him.
  21. I know I'm not the usual to start these commitment threads but it needs to get going so we can have more positive conversations. Looks like 2 committed. And I'm going to add, I trashed the puzzle piece tweets a week or two ago but man were these nice to see.
  22. I have to say, I've not been a fan of all of his tweets but this one, I like. Not everybody in the portal was encouraged to leave as was suggested might be the case. That said, the staff seems to be pressing forward. I'm know coach O won't be here forever but while he's here, he seems determined to make this program the best he can make it.
  23. It's a great idea. Soccer is one of the most popular and profitable sports in Europe and there's a reason why. They've spent decades working through the system you outlined and it gives everybody a way to succeed while specifically rewarding the teams who properly identify young talent. We've gone from a system where the players have no power to one where they have all the power. When the dust settles, I think all of this will have taken a completely different form. The reality is, if players want to be treated as professionals while in college, they're going to have to take the bad that comes with it. Sooner than later, the big boosters will want to protect their investments instead of dumping money into players who leave every year.
  24. I certainly agree with this and posted it in another thread that if the coaches are smart, they'll show all prospects (especially our offensive guys) that UNT is where you can come to raise your profile and then get paid elsewhere. If you're a HS recruit who didn't get the big P5 offer, come kill it here and then you can use your free transfer to get paid elsewhere after a couple of years. If you're a transfer with 2-3 years left, come kill it here and then you can use your grad transfer to get paid elsewhere. I follow European soccer and there's several soccer teams that have had sustained success by developing young talent even knowing the players will eventually leave for bigger teams. Having those premier talents allows them to compete with the biggest teams over there when they otherwise couldn't afford the players necessary to compete. It certainly can be done here as well. I'm not as worried about players leaving as others but I definitely think there needs to be more structure in place. I don't know if the solution is penalties after your first transfer such as sitting out 6 games or maybe being required to stay with a program 2 years before transferring. I understand coaches can leave for better jobs without penalty but in pro sports, just because your coach leaves it doesn't mean you get to break your contract. If the players want to be treated as pros, they need to take the good with the bad.
