Some sloppy offense and bad fouls the last 5 minutes of that first half. Need to get that big lead back early in the 2nd half or this might end ugly.
-
He was hurt. The QB who played the AAC championship game is the same who played the bowl.

Memphis put up 36 despite missing a 31 yard field goal, an extra point, and a 2 point conversion that was to make-up for the missed point. In other words, 5 points left on the board just there. Was not an impressive defensive performance by Iowa State indicated by the 530 yards of offense put up by Memphis.

'21 RB Offer: Jaden Nixon, Lone Star: Not Rated at the Time
GMG_Dallas replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Would be great to have him. I know folks like to say we need another QB and D linemen which I agree with but we also lost 4 running backs to the portal. Although one hadn't been very productive, I don't think there's any issue with another coming in when you see how much we rotate running backs and how often freak injuries happen. Regardless of where he ends up, I hope he finds success. -
The broadcasters have not been impressed with Iowa State's 3 man front and 8 in coverage. Been discussed a few times that Memphis has done a good job of finding the open guys within the 8 coverage guys.
-
Shout-out to Memphis at at least. Currently up against Iowa State 36-13 in the 3rd quarter. Iowa State has 19 carries for 0 total yards.
-
I know it's SMU but I was really hoping we wouldn't see the AAC champion get stomped by a 6-6 ACC school, especially after watching the number 2 AAC team in Tulane get beatdown by Virginia Tech 41-20. Last AAC team to play is Memphis vs Iowa State but things are not looking good for the conference to finish above .500 in bowl games this year.

You know, you're not wrong. Not a ton of supporting for the sake of supporting

I love how the board went from Barry Odom is a very good defensive coach and we should have hired him to Bean only threw for 449 yards and 6 touchdowns because Barry Odom's defense was very bad and North Texas like from one thread to another. We just hate to see former North Texas players succeed elsewhere.
-
Sometimes you just make plays when needed.
-
Bean made some very good throws and converted a 4th and 1 for a 40 yard touchdown. No reason to downplay the performance by saying he's good when his receivers have a 10 yard cushion. You don't throw 6 touchdown passes and for 449 yards just because your receivers get good separation.

We also don't call ourselves "P3."

Florida State officially leaving ACC?
GMG_Dallas replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Conference ReAlignment
This is an extreme take, especially with the 12 team playoff. If FSU, Clemson, and the other big programs succeed in leaving, the new ACC will likely compete with the AAC and MWC for whatever spot the non P3 conference champion will get. -
Florida State officially leaving ACC?

Not quite the comparison. "SMU quit their job with us pushing carts at Target to go be a VP at a bankrupt company and now they're about to be unemployed. They'll soon be pushing carts at Kroger." -
Major recruiting class jump from ‘23 to ‘24
GMG_Dallas replied to GoGreenBeans's topic in Mean Green Football
Honestly, with the amount of players being recruited now between high school, juco, and portal, these rankings are going to be less and less accurate. They've only ranked 3 of our transfers yet our transfer class rank is now number 59. With the amount of transfers we have coming from power conference programs, we really could be looking at a top 25 transfer class but the numbers won't reflect it. Look at DT Sheffield for example. Just last year he was the number 5 JUCO wide receiver but he's currently not rated as a transfer. My favorite thing about this class is most players are coming from programs our coaches used to work at or come from high school programs our coaches have strong relationships with. It gives me hope that these players will actually show up to campus and not transfer out after spring because they're coming into a good situation. I'm more optimistic about this transfer class than I was last year's for those reasons. -
Are we not signing a transfer QB?

Wonder if our former Iowa State coaches are in play here. I know they're defensive guys but surely there's a relationship with Brock Purdy that may help land the guy. -

I believe they did away with it due to the transfer portal. Now you can sign as many as you want as long as you stay under the total limit of 85 scholarship players. -
I think there's just fan disappointment with the early season results. Lost by 1 to St John, ok fine. Then lost to a mediocre LSU team after having a small lead late in the second half which sucked. Then you blow two leads to Boise State and Fordham. Felt like all 4 of those should have been wins but we didn't capitalize on any. We played in a good early season tournament and didn't capitalize. We've watched low major and mid major schools left and right come up with big wins early this season but none came by us. I get losing Tylor Perry but other teams have surely lost players as well and even then, less talented rosters have figured out ways to get upset wins but we haven't. Getting blown out by Mississippi State also doesn't help.

See the article I posted. There's work-arounds that collectives at some 60 schools are using. They have the boosters donate to separate but affiliated charities who then donate the money to the NIL collective.
-
It's already been ruled NIL donations wouldn't be tax deductible unless the NIL is an approved 501c3 organization but like anything, there's a work-around. "The Penn State collective, which is not a tax-exempt charity, tells donors their gift can still be tax-deductible if they route their money through an affiliated charity called the BPS Foundation. It is one of more than 60 collectives that offer donors tax deductions — either because the collective itself has been approved for charitable status by the I.R.S., or because the collective partners with an outside charity. “If it’s not a 501(c)(3), I’m not going to give money to it,” said Dick Stewart, who attended the Happy Valley United fund-raiser, referring to the I.R.S. designation for charities. Stewart, an estate planning lawyer, donated $10,000 to Happy Valley United in June from a foundation he runs that was created by a deceased client who was a Penn State graduate." https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/21/us/college-athletes-donor-collectives.html Recent article from late October.

I say this and the Rubin gets a tough basket to go through contact.
-
Yeah it's the same issue as other games, too dependent on the 3 where we're 0-4 in the second half. If it's not an open 3 point shot, we can't consistently generate offense. Definitely problematic.

Stone needed a seat there. Got crossed up on just about every drive he was the primary defender on.

From the 2023 roster: Alobwede 6'5" 266, Smith 6'2" 255 as a true freshman, Green 6'3" 260, Moore 6'00" 300. DL losses: Wright 6'3" 230, Richards 6'1" 240, and maybe Kadren Johnson who was also a senior at 6'1" 242. Should have more size. Now just need them to take the next step their second years in the system. -
Happy to see finally Walker on the court!
