AAC agrees foul should have been called
GMG_Dallas replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Being close to somebody and then jumping away from them does not mean you pushed off. The link you provided shows nothing I haven't already seen. Allen is maintaining positioning and using his body to prevent the defender from getting near the basket. He then leaps away to catch the ball near the basket. He jumped away but kept his arms there to keep the defender from closing in until he was ready to catch the ball. None of that means he pushed the defender away. Again, in the moment, the defender didn't budge. That right there is the honest truth displayed by the defender. He didn't have the time to sell a foul because there was nothing to sell. There was no push. Again, his reaction in the moment proves it. What there was, however, is a travel on ECU before their previous bank-shot. Even the ECU play-by-play guys say it. "He almost traveled" by one and "oh oh" by the other. That's the honest reaction. They got away with a travel. Our guys just wouldn't let them have it. -
15 scholarship players for a position group where you need 5 on the field at a time seems really low. Assuming 3 per position means 10 of those 15 are in your 2 deep and there's really no depth to handle injuries as they occur. I realize some will play multiple positions but still, there's very little room for error in talent evaluation.

Memphis gave up a 20 point lead in this home loss. The conference is open.

Espn commentators were just discussing the strength of the AAC and brought up North Texas as one of the better teams.

Swipe his phone the night before and change the date. He'll never know.

Was also a favorite of mine. I think the best part about them complaining for the foul at the end is they shot twice as many free throws as us throughout the game and couldn't pull it off. Had they just hit their free throws, this play never happens. They were soft on the interior all game and that final play is just another example of that. Points in the paint: NT 36, ECU 20.

Somebody have an account to let this guy know North Texas did not lose in the NIT final? https://247sports.com/college/east-carolina/board/59438/Contents/final-north-texas-60-ecu-59-225623905/?page=14#M225636729 ECUPittfan Posted on 38 mins, , User Since 133 months ago, User Post Count: 3541 38 mins 133

The play-by-play guys about the game winning shot : "Allen got away with a push off." Me: "GET YOUR WEIGHT UP!!" LIGHT THE TOWER!!!!

Tough to do when they anytime they get to the rim, a ref blows the whistle.

4/22 from 3 is a recipe for disaster.

This is just one of those games where the bounces don't go your way.

NIT Mou has been making flash appearances in conference play. He looks to be finding his groove.

Grading 1st Year College Football Head Coaches
GMG_Dallas replied to Glory to the Green's topic in Mean Green Football
If the AD doesn't set and maintain a higher standard for the coaches then we can't expect the students and fans to take the program seriously and show up, donate, or be involved in other ways. People want to be a part of serious organizations. -
Grading 1st Year College Football Head Coaches
GMG_Dallas replied to Glory to the Green's topic in Mean Green Football
These posts defending Morris for his first year makes me think some of y'all subconsciously add a "for North Texas" qualifier to everything. Five wins is decent "for North Texas." We didn't get too much worst "for North Texas." Reality is, taking a 7 win team and losing 2 less is bad. There's no way to sugar coat that. We played in a better conference? Cool. Our 2022 and 2023 schedules had 6 common opponents. Both SL and Morris went 2-4 against those 6 common opponents (in the regular season, not counting the CUSA CCG against UTSA). The only differences are that SL beat FIU and lost to UAB while Morris lost to FIU and beat UAB. We didn't fire SL and hire Morris to do the same or worst. We made the change to do better. You can't inherit a team with a winning record and have a losing record in year 1. That's fireable for the bigger programs. If we want to join those ranks, we should set similar standards. -
If SMU keeps up, they'll be a Quad 1 game on the road and maybe even Quad 1 at home. Would be big for us to get 5 more opportunities at Quad 1 and 2 games against them, FAU, and Memphis.

You'd think with the emergence of Antetokounmpo that Greeks would be more into basketball.

A little over 10 years ago, I showed up for freshman orientation with absolutely zero knowledge of college athletics. I was always a sports fan but nobody in my family had gone to college so I didn't really know much about it. My orientation leader told our group of wide-eyed incoming freshmen that UNT football was garbage and the only exciting thing about basketball was the incoming one-and-done prospect who I'd later find out was Tony Mitchell. If it's still like that, minus the one-and-done prospect to sell, that will explain why we always get the "by UNT standards" and dead student attendance. How are our orientation leaders selling the athletic programs? I've caught a few A10 and Missouri Valley basketball games and attendance always looks good, even in some of the bigger basketball arenas. Why is their attendance good but the AAC, CUSA, and Sun Belt basketball programs can't figure it out?

QB commit - Chandler Morris - transfer from TCU
GMG_Dallas replied to DentonLurker's topic in Mean Green Football
My bad. Yes, the team played better because they leaned on the strength of the offense which was the run game. I'm hopeful next year will be similar with the offensive linemen and running backs we've added. Run the dang ball! -
QB commit - Chandler Morris - transfer from TCU

But you realize Alec was a 4 year 3rd string QB or worst while Morris has about 10 starts under his belt, right? Apples to oranges. -
Breaking: North Texas land Liberty Transfer QB Reese Mooney
GMG_Dallas replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Good question. I'd imagine he's a regular transfer coming in this spring as opposed to a grad transfer like Morris who has to wait for graduation to get that grad transfer waiver. -
So Coach Burton is AAC Coach of the Year favorite at this point, right?

Top 50 NET Rankings by Conference 1.15.24
GMG_Dallas replied to JT Hammons's topic in Mean Green Basketball
They have zero teams in the top 50. The highest in the Sun Belt is James Madison at 61 and the highest in CUSA is La Tech at 95. For comparison, we're at number 60. -
I'm also worried about his health. My hope is with the beefed up offensive line and added bulkier running backs that he'll be kept upright more. The offensive line performance regressed last year. It's a miracle Rogers didn't get hurt. No Maclin for sure but he gets a sophomore Sides to work with. He also played with Blair Conwright at TCU. With the transfer outs, I'd imagine Conwright was going to have a bigger role next year than he did this past season and there should be some familiarity there. Plus, Morris is already going to be close with going to TCU and he's a local kid so he should be able to get unofficial reps with receivers during the spring and/or summer if that's allowed. Just running routes with a few friends. About playing from behind, isn't that where Rogers biggest moments came? The second halves against Tulane and Memphis? It would be disingenuous to say he efficiently moved the ball against good opponents until those games were out of reach. He made them close and even took the lead against Memphis but man was there some ugly football in competitive games.

I realize I wasn't specifically clear about the P5 transfer being a QB position. Being the QB1 for 10 games and getting PT as one of the 8 corners in a rotation are two completely different things. Morris has Rogers' experience but at the P5 level.
-
This is a very fair statement as it pertains to our history with P5 transfers. My question to you is have we ever had a P5 transfer with as much starting experience as Chandler Morris? He was QB1 leading into 2 seasons and has a good 8 or 9 P5 starts at QB. That has to count for something.
