****OFFICIAL ECU vs UNT IN-GAME DISCUSSION***

Eric Morris strikes again. -
Jameis Winston received multiple shoplifting citations while in college. He also had the whole sexual assault allegations, which, innocent until proven guilty so whatever. I brought up Joe Mixon who knocked out a woman and broke her jaw then played the following season. ESPN posted an article in 2015 where they examined college athlete arrests amongst 20 of the biggest athletic programs. They found most ended up being dropped after the athletic departments protected their athletes. Another great example is Aaron Hernandez who was was drinking at a bar, refused to pay, then hit the manager all at the age of 17 after he enrolled at Florida early. It was documented in the police report after he even admitted to it. School did nothing. It's a case by case basis but if you don't think the biggest programs allow a lot of shady stuff to happen, I don't know what to tell you. They pretty much only act if the situation either benefits them (clear a roster spot) or if it's just so bad they have to do something to save their image.
-
Sure why not. Make it a formality I guess. Georgia has had over 20 players arrested/cited related to reckless driving, DWIs, and racing since January of 2023. Joshua Cephus had a dwi end of 2022 and returned in 2023 to have his best season. As long as there's no felonies or violent offenses involved, I really don't care anymore. I'd rather avoid having a Joe Mixon on our team but nobody really cared at OU. Nobody on the outside cares either. Just win.
-
Don't think I ever saw this posted until after he left. Regardless, I don't care. Every team has some cancers. The coaches just need to decide if the talent is worth it. I think it is. As long as you're not a felon, I really don't care what you do off the field anymore. Neither do the elite teams.
-
Sure why not. We should get past letting our emotions get in the way of who plays for this program. Can you play? Yes? Ok, get out there and win some games.

1st half 3 attempts: 17 2nd half 3 attempts: 5 1st half FT attempts: 3 2nd half FT attempts: 16 1st half points in the paint: 8 2nd half points in the paint: 22 1st half turnovers: 7 2nd half turnovers: 3 (all within of 1:07 game time) Just a few numbers... sorry for the formatting, I'm on my phone.

They just don't seem interested in playing this game. Reminds me of Southern Nazarene a couple years back. We won 31 games that season including the NIT. I wouldn't look too much into the score as long as we win.
-
Wish we'd throw in Vice or whatever other big we have for a few minutes. Not able to find any interior game on offense and not stopping it on defense. Might as well see what he can give as it can't be any worst. 29% from 3 on 17 shots and we're losing the paint battle 18 to 8. Plus they've got 8 free throw attempts to our 3.

ESPN+ only. Might as well subscribe as most UNT games are on that platform.

Tulsa lost by 14... really need our conference to step up. -
Get ready for this when Eric gets canned

Honestly a bad take by her. They beat zero FBS schools this year and only played Liberty and Miami (OH) close. How much of that NIL disparity is inflated by playing Missouri, Mississippi State, and Liberty? Does it also include Georgia this upcoming game? What's the excuse for double digit losses to Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Buffalo, and Northern Illinois? What's the excuse for beating FCS Central Connecticut by 4? Again, poor take. -
Honestly I don't even hate the defensive scheme much on the surface (3-3-5 or 4-2-5). My biggest concerns have been in the secondary. They rarely seem to be in a position to challenge catches and the tackling is often weak at that level. That along with the lack of blitzing from the secondary has been frustrating which, from what I'd read in the past, was one of the benefits of having 5 DBs. Gives more flexibility to send a blitzer from different areas of the field while keeping the offense guessing as to where it's coming from. If they're not covering well, not tackling well, not blitzing much, then what are they doing? They started generating turnovers lately but not enough to make-up for the soft coverage. Think it's a coincident Caponi was also over DBs? Like you said, you have to have great secondary pieces. I think we have good talent in the secondary but they haven't been coached up enough. Anyways, I hope this move works. A new DC will bring in new coaches, possibly a completely new scheme, and with that new players which then delays us another year.
-
Under what circumstances do you think he'd earn the permanent job? Even if the defense performes, I'd be concerned by the 3-3-5 base Billy alluded to. If the defense performes at a high level but he keeps a 3-3-5 through the end of the season, do we still move on from him to get away from the 3-3-5 after this season or what? Just curious on others' thoughts. I'd be concerned that EM would say "look the 3-3-5 can work, we just didn't have the right DC in place" and we'd be right back here in a year.

***OFFICIAL UNT vs. UTSA IN-GAME DISCUSSION***

Offense lacks a vertical passing game. People have raved about the top 5 offense in passing yards per game but per the NCAA website and ESPN (NCAA is more precise with some of the numbers), CM is 48th in yards per completion at 12.37 YPC, 41st in yards per attempt at 7.85 YPA, 45th in completion percentage at 63.7%, and tied for second in pass attempts at 422. The numbers show we don't push the ball downfield as much as others and that we aren't efficient enough considering how little we do that. Being top 5 in passing yards is simply a volume stat at this point. We just throw a ton. Screens are great but when it's most of what you do, it gets dicey. Those and run plays start off as negative yardage plays dependent on blocking. Can't have those every drive. About teams figuring out EM, our competition has gotten better. -
Well dang. You're a pretty smart fella.
-
Live by the 3, die by the 3.
-
Good teams find ways to win. I'm not saying we're bad by any means but this should have been a win.
-
Pretty sure he got blocked 3 times in the first 4 minutes by shorter guys. No reason for that. I really hope Vice can give us more. We may not find out today but before conference, we need to see what he can give.
-
It doesn't need to be done by pounding it down low. 6 offensive boards but how many 2nd chance points? Go back up strong and draw contact. Even those rebounded closer to the perimeter, the defense is usually out of sorts because players are standing around watching the ball. Take the board and drive back in the lane. You have to force teams to play clean defense down low. 3s will not always fall.
-
Lucky fanbase.
-
Need to take advantage of this opportunity.
-
Yup. Guess the Temple AD also consults this board for advice.
-
Yup. I know he wouldn't be canned 2 years in but if we can't come out 2-0 against 2 interim HCs, I'll know not to get excited for next year. At least it's basketball season and softball is around the corner.
-
More change around the conference. Our next two opponents will have interim HCs. I feel we'll learn a lot about our own situation these final two weeks. Either we can feast on unstable situations or we're at the start of a spiral and firing Caponi was just losing deadweight before the crash.
-
He just got fired.
