I second this opinion. I have never called him a diva but I do question his a) desire to attend UNT and b) desire to keep at it with one school regardless of adversity. Honestly, it reminds me a bit of Luke Del Rio on a smaller scale because his dad isn't an NFL coach. Luke transferred to Valor Christian in Colorado for his senior year after his dad was hired by the Broncos. If Valor Christian sounds familiar it's because that's where Christian McCaffrey went. Both Del Rio and Debiase played their senior years of HS football on a team with top talent and they couldn't break through to the recruiting scene. Del Rio is at his third university in as many years. I wouldn't be surprised if DeBiase followed a similar path. It is my opinion that he believes he's greater than UNT and the second he isn't the starter or if he does become the starter, the second he has some success, it is my opinion that he will begin looking elsewhere. Seth Littrell is the only coach who has consistently been recruiting this "kid." I put kid in apostrophes because he is 20 years old and was a high school senior at 19. He was most likely the oldest player on the field most games in high school. He also worked with top QB coaches and still couldn't get the exposure he wanted while playing at a top national HS football program. And while yes, Mason Fine wasn't offered a scholly by anybody but us, it's not due to talent, it's due to size and he was offered POW at the top two Oklahoma schools. We are in C-USA and we know several Florida universities are lacking talent at the QB position. Why have none of them gone after this guy? What I think is happening is the coaches are going to make DeBiase earn their trust before being offered a scholarship. I think they looked at him and said "You've bounced around a lot and before we use up a scholarship offer and a precious spot of the 25 players we can sign per class, you are going to have to prove your loyalty." There's certain rules regarding how you must allocate scholarship count when placing a walk-on on scholarship and they are probably waiting until they don't have to "assign" him to a class so after his sophomore year (if I'm not mistaken) he would earn a scholarship. I think that's why he's taking online classes and will most likely be walking on. He needs to earn it first and I think our staff is making him earn it. I'm glad they are doing this because I'm not sure how loyal he is considering his high school history. We have 68 scholarship players. I would hate to waste one on a kid who doesn't want to be here.

For a team that primarily runs the ball, you would think it would have given them an advantage to play in a storm although I can see why the trickery of the triple option would be hindered by playing in a storm. That said, if we can catch Southern Miss, LaTech, or WKU on a rainy day, that might just be our luck! Their QB who had left came back less than a week after leaving. He's still the starter. Ahmad Bradshaw is the name.

Gotta say, having him is such a blessing. He's proving on the field to be the kind of leader and player that will help shape this offense for years to come.- 25 replies

Thank you. I understand the previous statement now. He would waste two years of eligibility here if he just came here and left. Thanks again!

I agree. It's just looking at his track history that leads me to believe he wouldn't deal with not being the starter. Question though: why does he only have 2 years of eligibility left? He was a high school senior last year and didn't go to prep school this year.

'17 QB Devlin Isadore(Navarro JC)

Cason* not Carson. Unless Mitch Cason left and was replaced by another walk-on with a very similar last name to get a fresh start. A la Tim errr Tom Brady. -
Berglund had legal issues early on in his career so that might have impacted his development. This guy's story reminds me more of last year's prematurely proclaimed program savior, DeMarcus Smith. It's not Smith or Debiase's fault they grew up in an era of entitlement (hey, I'm 23, I can say it), but they expect to be the expected starter or to at least be a frontrunner to start wherever they go before they get there. That's not how it works and I think Debiase would leave after a year of not starting which means he would be gone after his first season that he's eligible because he's not starting over Fine barring injury.

As bad as our fan base is when it comes to attending games for general support regardless of the quality of our team, we are also really good at rallying behind an improving team. It's a fan base starving for success. If we head to that game, on homecoming, 5-3 against a top notch C-USA opponent, you'll see an atmosphere better than that of the 2013 Rice game. It would be amazing. That Rice game was also the #hit6 game and had it not been for Halloween night on a school night (Thursday), we would have hit 30k.

The premier bowl game is probably the Independence bowl in Shreveport against an ACC or SEC team. Minnesota is currently predicted to play the HOD bowl and they sit at 3-2. I would love for us to play a team like them, Indiana, or Purdue (who all sit at 3-2) who are lower tier P5 programs. It could make for a very competitive game and one we could win if we make it to bowl contention given we continue improving. Now THAT would make for an amazing season.

In 2013, me and some buddies were heckling the Rice bench like crazy and one of my friends made the following comment: "Hey Coach, go recruit some better players!" The response was gold. Rice's defensive coordinator at the time turns around and yells at us to F*** off. The frustration was mounting, we were getting louder, and it became apparent that we would win the game. If our crowd turnout and noise was like what you see in the video below every game, it would be amazing. Just fill in the sides a bit and you've got a hostile environment. Needless to say, my drunk self took it too far and cussed back at the coach and was told by a CSC staff to not cuss or I would be thrown out of the game. That game is one of the best sporting events I have ever been at.

ODU is 4-2 right now with a 14 point win over UTSA, a 35 point win over Charlotte, and a 20 point win over UMASS in their past 3 games. It'll be just our luck if get them next year when they could have a breakout season...
-
Honest question and I don't want to be negative BUT, IF we beat Army and UTSA which can realistically happen if we play like we did against Marshall, and we go into the final month of the season 5-3 but we end up losing all remaining games which can also realistically happen (Aaron Jones can take over a game and anything can happen on any given Saturday), do we end the season in disappointment that we got so close and just couldn't finish it or in optimism that we were 1-11 a year ago? What's the sentiment following a season like that considering the previous campaign? I would feel so giddy and excited heading into the final month that I would have to feel a bit disappointed that we couldn't get that one final win.Thoughts?
-
I don't see what the fuss is about with his article. He's frustrated and specifically said early in the article that Marshall shouldn't have lost because of the season we are coming off of and their past 3 seasons. Before the season started, none of us would have thought we would win this game. The perception is really evident when you look at the games we are favored to win per espn. The only game we are favored, as of this morning, is UTEP. That's where you really see the problem in perception.
-
Yup I remember. I was just saying that because despite the contract and who we would be supposed to play, know that it won't always play out that way.
-
We should have played a Big 10 team in 2014 and instead played UNLV. You never know...
-
As a die hard Cowboys fan, it's pretty crazy to see the resemblance in the two teams so far. Both have first year qbs who not many people thought they could make the transition to the new competition level without a year or two of learning behind vets. Both QBs have made smart decisions and done a good job not turning the ball over. They have not lit up the stat sheet but they've played really good games. Both teams were excepted to have decent secondaries with struggles on the d line and both defenses have performed admirably overall. I could keep going (o line injuries, allowing big special teams plays, etc...) but there's no need to. I guess the sentiment is you play the game for a reason.
-
Why are we still considering UTSA winnable but not Southern Miss? UTSA just beat them pretty handily... They're both winnable at this point...

Defense came to play against Marshall tonite
GMG_Dallas replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Marshall rushed for 13 yards on 28 carries. -
I said it before and I'll say it again, he didn't want us at our worst, I don't want him now.
-
Question: if Brice English is as advertised and we develop hambone and some others as well as reel in another juco or two for a LB or d line spot, is there any reason to believe a really dominant defense couldn't alone get us to bowl eligibility next year? Obviously they can't just play full games but if we do get these the easier side of c-usa next year, would a really dominant defense be enough?

Official Marshall Game Score Prediction Thread
GMG_Dallas replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
If he was already concussed during the Akron game but stayed in, that would explain all the interceptions/fumbles. I didn't watch the game so I don't if that's the case but if it is, that could potentially explain the Akron game. If he was hurt on this play http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=17570695 and it was early in the second quarter with plenty of time for him to throw the game away with poor decisions. Don't know, just speculating. -

How Many MORE Games Do You Expect To Win?
GMG_Dallas replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
Get what you're saying but Marshall's only win is against an FCS team. Had Rice played an FCS team to start off the year, they would probably have at least 1 win as well. Instead, Rice started off against Western Kentucky, Army, Baylor, us, and Southern Miss. Not sure our record would be any different had we played those teams to start off the season. By season's end, we will be better, but to start off? We would probably be 0-5 or 1-4 too (win against Rice). Marshall is better than their record indicates though...
