Keep it up!!! Wooooowwww!!! -
It is 12:03pm on Monday. Time to put SMU Behind Us.

Other than Iowa 2 (3?) Years ago, we have been relatively competitive defensively against P5 schoola in the past 4-5 years. We've struggled mightily putting up points though (0-24 Tennessee, 0-32 Florida). I'll be content with a competitive game for 3 quarters. I'll be looking for consistency though. -
Can somebody explain why no timeout was called to at least attempt something deep?

Official SMU Game Score Prediction Thread
GMG_Dallas replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
UNT 31 SMU - 27 They needed a lot last year to win 34-21. We threw 3 first half interceptions and they had a 3rd and 90000 touchdown pass. I don't think either of those happen this time. Our QBs last year also had zero college starts. With a year under his belt and some solid starts, I think Fine has what it takes to keep it close and ultimately pull it away. He doesn't turnover the ball much and our secondary is more experienced. GMG -
Especially in a game like this where you won't see the starters much in the second half...
-
I agree. All the more reason to be cautious with them.

FCS schools seem to be getting tougher every year. JMU beat East Carolina 34-14 and beat SMU last year. Southestern Louisiana is down a 42-35 to LaLa but at their 22 late in the third. Coastal Carolina is beating UMass in their first game of FBS ball. LaTech just took the lead on Northwestern State 31-24 with a minute left in the third. Missouri State put up 43 on Missou. Pitt needed overtime to beat Youngstown State. Oregon State squeezed by Portland State 35-32. I know none of these are not powerhouse programs but Pitt is no slouch and Missou is in the SEC. Most that are struggling are G5s or low P5s but these close games between FCS and FBS seem to be happening more and more...

I haven't had any issues with the UNT game since late in the first half.

2nd Year Expectation For Littrell
GMG_Dallas replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in Mean Green Football
I want 7 wins during the regular season that way no matter what happens with the bowl game we finish above .500, either 7-6 or 8-5. While finishing 6-6 regular season would be nice, I don't want to finish below .500 even if it is 6-7. -
I don't understand how a win against SMU would do more for recruiting since we've lost more recruits to UTSA and we play in the same division as UTSA so a win against them could mean winning the division... Seems like a win against UTSA amidst a good season would do more. That said, the poll doesn't matter because we're beating both this year. GMG

Gibbs was upgraded to a 3 star today on 247 and is now our second highest rated recruit per 247 behind King Edit UNTLifer beat me to it.

I believe it's Chumley as well. Hopefully he's fine. I've been waiting to see him in action.

DRC: (updated) UNT adds former Lake Dallas, Kansas WR Brewer
GMG_Dallas replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I only read a few comments before I got a bit annoyed. In one of my marketing classes at UNT we had a business man named Mike Muhney come talk to us. A quote stuck to me ( I don't know if it originated with him). The quote goes something like this: "Not every swing results in a hit and not every hit results in a home run, but every home run is the result of a swing and a hit." While yes, you shouldn't take an endless amount of chances on players, you still need to take chances. Are we taking chances? Yes. Will we hit home runs? We'll see. Will it work? Until proven otherwise by THIS staff, I'm choosing to be patient. -
DRC: Breaking news -- English out with broken foot

Considering the first half of the schedule, I don't think this impacts the end goal much. We will still beat Lamar and should still beat UAB. An upset against Iowa is a bit more unlikely and SMU is still a toss-up. I don't think Southern Miss will be any better than the team we beat last year so I still think we win that game. Hopefully he's back for UTSA because that's when the schedule gets interesting. End of year, we still go bowling. GMG -
Comparing Recruiting Across The Years
GMG_Dallas replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
This is the biggest problem to me. The guys we get with a lot of offers are usually coming to us because they lost their spot everywhere else for some reason. How many of our "higher rated" A- or better guys done nothing or left before their time was up? I would guess near 40% and that's not good. From 2014 to 2016 : Willy Ivery, Fonzale Davis, Jalen Adams (?), Chumley (looking like he might get his shot), McNair, Dillman (same as Chumley), William Johnson. Edit: I understand this is part of recruiting but this where winning real head to head battles important and not just getting guys taking their last available FBS offer. Have to get guys who really want to be here and that starts with good recruiting. I trust our current staff though. Their good offer guys look like legit signings over Mac so far. -
Considering the coach they have, I would be proud of him for the choice he made. It seems like he didn't just go with the biggest or flashiest offer but is choosing to go where he thinks he'll get the best coaching and where the best fit for him is. There aren't many coaches in college who can match Lovie Smith's resume.

Wow... Commits to Illinois.

'18 DE/OLB Trumane L Bell II - Lake Highlands, Dallas
GMG_Dallas replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
You can probably pencil him going to UTSA. They received 2 commits today, granted one has no 247 page and the other has no offers per 247, and he's been involved in a lot of conversations regarding UTSA on Twitter. Fans have been bringing up their all American linebacker who's also from DFW and he's been retweeting those tweets a bunch... Hope I'm wrong. -
Congrats! Sad to see another officer leave DPD but considering your new position, you clearly made the right decision.

Surprised nobody has posted this. WKU's 5 star center Mitchell Robinson that signed this past class has left. My understanding is he started summer classes but has left after 2 weeks and will most likely seek a transfer. Three of WKU's assistants including Robinson's godfather are no longer on the WKU staff. Hopefully I posted this in the correct forum... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/college-basketball/2017/7/28/16057362/mitchell-robinson-leaves-western-kentucky-nba-draft

3 of the top 40 OG in Texas committed to UNT
GMG_Dallas replied to GMG24's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Question: does this list include only seniors or is any high school OG in Texas eligible to make the cut? -
'18 ATH Antonio Gage (Dallas Madison)
GMG_Dallas replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
They might be trying to get into Texas. Looking at 247, they have several offers to Texas players, many from the DFW area, and their top commit per 247 is from Dallas (Bishop Dunne).
