Something else to consider is that kids know if after a couple of seasons at a P5 they aren't getting the playing time they think they deserve they can transfer elsewhere, most often to a G5. On the flipside, I can imagine it's much more difficult to transfer from most G5 to most P5 (excluding upper G5 transfers to lower P5). Transfering these days is part of college sports. Going to a P5 first puts you in the best position regarding schools willing to take you in if you chose to transfer.

Does that mean they are the runner up choice to us?

Serious question. What do y'all think is more important to a footballrecruit? Graduating a high percentage of your football players with good grades and them having successfully post-grad careers, OR sending two or three players to the NFL each year? Obviously I think the best would be to do both but I'm just wondering hypothetically. It seems like high school athletes are more and more thinking about non-football adult lives than pro football adult lives. I've seen a lot of athletes talk about the importance of academics in their commitment choices.

Thoughts and Prayers with Emmitt and his DPD Fellow Officers
GMG_Dallas replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
Mr. Emmitt, watching CNN last night I had the pleasure of hearing an African-American (i mention her race to emphasize the quality of the message in a time like this) lady speak to the world about how much the citizens of Dallas love their DPD. She spoke about how she and her kids feel safe around our officers, how amazing the love was between everybody during the protest, how you can be walking down the street and be greeted by a random member of our DPD, and how our DPD protected them all when this happened. She told the world how amazing our DPD is to all of Dallas and are not discriminatory. I mention this because I think it's important for you to know that you are backed by all of Dallas, not just a small portion of our community. My brother is a member of DPD and one of his friend's lost his partner of three years at the hands of the shooter. My grandfather too was an officer for over 20 years. We love you all and value all of you. Dallas police has the lowest amount of officer involved shootings out of any major city in the country. No police department deserved this, but it just sickens me even more knowing we lost amazing officers who have nothing to do with what's going on around the country. Sorry for the long message. I support our men and women in Blue. -

What does Benford need to stay at UNT?
GMG_Dallas replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Before Katenda stepped foot on the court in a mean green jersey everybody on this board questioned why we recruited a partially blind player and now he is so good that we can't possibly have a replacement for him on our current roster? Big fan of Katenda as I usually support french athletes since I am french myself but give the Temara kid a chance... -
I see. Understood and I agrre!

You left off texas with 7, tcu with 8, a&m I think has 13. Point is, it's great for all of the mentioned schools to be doing great on the recruiting trail but it's too early to look at class size as an indication of recruiting success. Other than UH, most will not make a bowl. We've been adding really good late 2016 recruits so it's not like the staff is doing nothing. They just want to win now to attract better hs recruits. I'm not worried.

It's a necessary move from the coaching staff. Plus it he becomes a hit and choses to come here it works out in our favor. If he comes here regardless of whether or not he's a hit, it might open up a pipeline to other liberty prospects. If he does come here though and does become a big prospect, can we be found guilty of anything illegal regarding recruiting since his grandfather donates to the athletic department and school?

MGB: Littrell talks QB race heading into spring
GMG_Dallas replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I think this speaks more to Dillman and Chumley's characters than anything else. The goal is probably to give chumley a fair shot and if it doesn't work out, give him the opportunity to change positions or stay burried on the depth chart. Dillman doesn't need to be the star he just wants to play. -
Had we just made one free throw with 20 seconds left...

If Cinicinnati Leaves AAC, Who Leaves CUSA To Backfill
GMG_Dallas replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
I think their egos will make this happen as well but if the reasoning is that they think Morris has them on the upswing and they lose to us this year, those plans might be postponed a bit. If they lose to UNT on year two of the Morris era they are looking at another 2-10 season and Morris is on the hot seat heading into year 3. More important things at that point than canceling the series. -

GMG_Dallas replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
This year's game might have a huge impact on the series. If we win, then the schedule against a lowly unt would be a game against a better program for them. If they smack us around again, it'll be canceled as all of you expect. -
Gotcha. That's a pretty far drive from McKinney to ESD unless he moved closer to the area. That might change things a bit if he didn't grow up in the private school environment.

Rice Inks $3.5 Million 3 Game Deal w/Texas
GMG_Dallas replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
TCU is 40 miles from UNT and they are maybe 10 to 15 miles from Arlington. They would essentially get an extra home game. Baylor is 123 miles from UNT (100 miles to Arlington if we did this at Jerry World) than UT is from Houston (161 miles). OU is 143 miles from UNT. We have 3 top 25 programs closer to us than UT is to Houston who it might actually be beneficial for to play at AT&T against UNT. They would be able to label them as neutral site games and not count in their slate of home games although they would be really close to home - almost close enough to be considered home games for TCU and Baylor. Look at A$M's scheduling last year: Sat, Sept 5 vs #15 Arizona State* W 38-17 1-0 (0-0) Sat, Sept 12 vs Ball State W 56-23 2-0 (0-0) Sat, Sept 19 vs Nevada W 44-27 3-0 (0-0) Sat, Sept 26 vs Arkansas* W 28-21 OT 4-0 (1-0) Sat, Oct 3 vs #21 Miss St W 30-17 5-0 (2-0) Sat, Oct 17 vs #10 Alabama L 41-23 5-1 (2-1) Sat, Oct 24 @ #24 Ole Miss L 23-3 5-2 (2-2) Sat, Oct 31 vs South Carolina W 35-28 6-2 (3-2) Sat, Nov 7 vs Auburn L 26-10 6-3 (3-3) Sat, Nov 14 vs W Carolina W 41-17 7-3 (3-3) Sat, Nov 21 @ Vanderbilt W 25-0 8-3 (4-3) Sat, Nov 28 @ LSU L 19-7 8-4 (4-4) FRANKLIN AMERICAN MORTGAGE MUSIC CITY BOWL Wed, Dec 30 vs Louisville* L 27-21 8-5 (4-4) * Game played at neutral location. SPONSORED HEADLINES 3 away games all year with two "neutral site" games, one (against Arizona ST.) played at NRG Stadium in Houston (pretty close to Aggie Land) and the other against Arkansas in Arlington. I'm pretty confident we could get at least TCU and Baylor in Arlington as neutral site games and it could work in everybody's favor. -
What's the likelihood of a private school kid going to UNT for football? Unless we post an above average 2016 season, I can't imagine us getting many of these kids this time around. Sort of like the Southlake kid who turned down a scholarship offer to UNT to be a regular student at A$M several years ago.
-
This is worrisome to me. Littrell offered a lot of pwo's this past recruiting season. Hopefully he doesn't intend to turn too many of those guys into scholarship guys unless they are performing at a high level. And if he does offer them scholarships within the next 2 years, that would only keep hurting our recruiting classes moving forward. Thoughts?
-
Fonzale Davis is no longer here, Caleb Chumley had offers but not necessarily for what we recruited him as (TE vs QB), Connor Means is a huge question mark. A few skill players to look forward to, though: Tee Goree, Willy Ivery, Jeffery Wilson. Josh Greer had 3 offers but he's no longer here. I feel like several other players from that class are gone. That, or they just have not gotten playing time.
-
No. We lost more games that we should have won than we won games that we should have lost. Now depending on how we finish the season, that might change but as it it, no. Let's see if benford can lead us to a little run here.

3 interesting personnel question for Littrell to ponder in spring
GMG_Dallas replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Does Chumley have the speed to be a WR? For some reason I thought he was reported as having a pretty good 40 time out of high school. Have him shed some weight if needed and he could be an incredible big body end zone target with the proper coaching and experience. Other than him, Dillman should be given a shot at QB considering where he was his JR year. It only seems right. Who knows, maybe he ends up living up to his JR year hype and ends up the starter this year or in 2017. Only gives Fine or whoever else comes in more time to grow. I could also see Chumley as a FB or DE but I really don't know what to do with Dillman if he's not at TE or QB. -
Reviewing and comparing the 2016 class based on offer lists
GMG_Dallas replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
Probably but it will only matter if Littrell doesn't go bowling with his own players. If he goes with both mac's and his within the next 5 or so years, we might not have him for much longer after that.
