  1. Lost by 3 to ODU and 1 to LaTech this season. Even though we've lost many close games, I feel like we can hang with anybody in the conference. Let's make a run!
  2. He reminds of Cordarrelle Patterson out of Tennessee a few years ago. Average receiver in his one season at the FBS level but was an all-purpose yards beast. Regardless, drafted in the first round due to measurables and athleticism. Result is an average NFL career.
  3. Our last 2 weekday games at apogee had decent attendance. Per espn, in the 17000s against ULL in 2012 on a Tuesday. In the 22000s against Rice on Halloween on a Thursday in 2013. I was at both games and attendance iseemed good in both.
  4. Taco Bell with extra hot sauce?
  5. Good article on WKU's Hollingsworth. The passage below is about his recruitment and why he snubbed Kentucky as a local player to go to WKU. This is why you need to take chances on high profile recruits but if you do, you make them your priority and you show them they aren't just some other 4 star. If only more kids thought like he did... "Yet, growing up in Lexington, Western was not the school of Hollingsworth’s basketball dreams. In 2015, Hollingsworth told the Herald-Leader’s Ben Roberts a chance to play for the hometown Kentucky Wildcats would be his “dream offer.” As his recruitment headed toward a climax in the fall of 2016, UK made him a conditional scholarship offer. “UK told me, if you are willing to wait (and sign in the spring), then we can give you a scholarship,” Hollingsworth says. “I think they wanted the people they (really) wanted first, then I would come after that.” Hollingsworth had long conversations with his parents over what to do. In his heart, he kept coming back to the fact WKU was treating him as a priority recruit. “I don’t like to be anybody’s backup plan,” Hollingsworth says. “WKU told me they would give me a scholarship on point. So that’s what I chose.”" http://kentucky.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/mark-story/article201630349.html
  6. That or it could be not knowing what's going on at their school. I graduated in 2014 and very few students were aware of votes or elections. Generally, SGA would go to different organizations to meet with larger groups of people and those were the ones who seemed to constitute most of the voting parties. When I was involved in Greek life, they would come to our houses and talk to us but Greek life is still relatively small at UNT. I will say, most of the people in SGA are plugged in with other groups already so those people will generally support their buddies in SGA and vote in their favor. Other than that, most students live off campus after freshman year and only go to campus for classes even if they live in Denton. Many students who do live on campus or spend large amounts of time on campus really don't pay attention to the occasional sign posted around campus regarding a vote. It isn't just athletics related elections that don't garner attention. In my time at UNT, apathy was always very high. SGA elections garnered little votes as well and it's usually the same organizations that constitute the votes.
  7. I'm thinking of Singletary at FAU and how that type of back, if the talent is there, can really dominate at the CUSA level. Quite frankly, I think our offense would be terrifying with Mason at QB and a playet like him in the backfield. Obviously he would have to get it together but could be worth the shot. I posted a link above. Looks like he's declared for the NFL. Star Telegram reporting the same. http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/nfl/dallas-cowboys/article198799599.html
  8. Just to close the loop... He's apparently declaring for the NFL: https://www.burntorangenation.com/platform/amp/2018/2/16/17021320/chris-warren-academics-transfer-texas-longhorns-2018-nfl-draft
  9. We would be tied if it weren't for all of the missed free throws
  10. And if Dimel doesn't let him it'll again be a pass for Chico? It'll just be because of UTEP? At some point you gotta look at the guy's entire body of work and see what else he's done. Winning the lottery once doesn't mean you have the magic recipe for winning the lottery. If he's had other mildly successful qbs that you would like to point out I'm all ears. The problem isn't that Rivers is some old dude. It's that at this point he's Chico's only dude.
  11. Agreed. He was drafted almost 15 years ago. The only thing Rivers shows at this point is that Chico was lucky to coach on a team with a talented player.
  12. Almost looks like a practice gym with bleachers...
  13. I agreed with you at the time we blueshirted these guys but now I don't mind the decision. When SL took over we needed immediate contributors and depth. Ultimately, the guys blueshirted last year will be here 1 year less than the guys who would have signed this year. In the grand scheme of things I don't think it's that big of a deal. We were in a bad place and now we're not. Blue shirting speeded up the process of becoming competitive since we picked up several Jucos who ended up contributing these past 2 years. I would rather not blue shirt 6 guys per class though so hopefully moving forward we blue shirt less and less every class so that we can slow build towards regularly having the maximum 25 slots available during recruiting cycles. If it weren't for blue shirts, we would might still be a below .500 team due to the lack of depth. After seeing SL work magic his first 2 years here, I would think people would be a little less critical of his tactics until proven otherwise. I guess some will always complain.
  14. I don't think it would be worth it... We are already solid at wr and the guys we have are young. That's one of the few positions we should only be taking true freshmen unless the transfer is a blue chip talent like Trey Quinn when he transfered from LSU to SMU.
  15. I'm sure his father told him he would gladly pay for his UT tuition. Honestly, can't say I blame him. His college experience at UT will be better than the one at Rice and if he doesn't mind the playing time it's not a hard choice. And those saying life as a p5 is tough, we have guys who turned down d2 and fcs offers this year to accept a PWO at UNT. Not they are not 3 star prospects but it's just the way it works. Some guys will take the flashier option even if it means paying more.
  16. We usually get a couple guys the last day that nobody even knew about beforehand. I would expect the same. And if I'm not mistaken, previous years under SL those last second guys were some of the better signings of their respective classes.
  17. If you re-read my post, you would see that I said not everybody that goes there is racist and that wasn't what I was saying. At the same time they have had some problems involving racism in the past couple years and It's something I would hope athletes are taking into consideration when deciding where they want to spend the next 4 to 5 years of their life.
  18. My question about SMU is the fit. Growing up in Dallas, I've experienced the culture and it's just not the right fit for everybody. We've seen the news stories of racism and other types of discrimination going on at SMU. That alone would make SMU a "no" for me. I know not everybody who goes to SMU is like that, I've known good people who went there, but it's still on going problem they've had.
  19. This happened both of SL's first classes. I expect us to get 1 or 2 three star guys at the last second who had their other offers dry up. We'll see how things play out.
  20. I'm assuming the staff would rather just get sure targets. If you trust your evaluation skills, they do, you don't really care about other people's opinions. The staff has proven more often than not that they can evaluate talent. Offensive linemen just take longer to develop. Give it some time. They've done a good job with other positions. No reason it won't be the same with offensive linemen...
  21. I don't want to start any arguments but this is a legitimate question. You've brought up in other threads that we have too many scholarship OL but are now asking we take a chance on 1-2 O linemen. Are wanting to take chances on those 1-2 players as PWO? If they don't want yo be here unless there's a scholarship, are you wanting them to be put on scholarship if the staff truly believes the player is a diamond in the rough? We can't take less scholarship O Linemen and then take some huge chances on 1-2. Just can't have it both ways. As I see it, most OL prospects at the G5 level are hopefully diamond in the rough prospects because there just aren't that many big, strong, smart kids wanting to take on the contact needed to play college football and those that do are being swooped up by p5 schools.
  22. Read the SB nation article I posted about it being the hardest position group to project and not expecting to see production from a player until year 3(RS So year). Also, we have the same amount on scholly as Bama and have less per position as we have running backs (just an example). You're looking at it as 1/5 of scholarships but it includes 5 positions. 3-4 scholarships per position is the norm.
  23. Per this 2017 SB nation Alabama I counted 18 OL on the roster all of which were on scholarship. Obviously SEC school and Alabama but they're a blue chip program so I figured they would be a good indication of what's appropriate. https://www.rollbamaroll.com/2017/7/11/15952484/alabama-crimson-tide-football-finds-its-way-to-85-man-roster-2017-blueshirt-grayshirt Per this SB nation article OL is also the hardest postion group to recruit so we (g5) need to take chances on more players if we want a competitive OL. https://www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/college-football-recruiting/2014/1/27/5330708/college-football-hardest-position
  24. I'm not in the know of other programs but I would think it to be normal. 18 scholarships in a position group of 5 is 3-4 scholarships per position which is what you would expect for quarterback and I think less than what we have for running back. I think people are complaining because of where we are on the defensive side of the ball. Just because we are lacking on that side doesn't mean we shouldn't go after the guys protecting our all conference QB. Plus when you consider how many injuries occur on the OL it's probably not a bad place to have depth. If we can control the game on the offensive side of the ball we can relieve pressure off our defense minimizing fatigue thus injury risk. But what do I know... Maybe somebody can bring actual known numbers into this.
  25. So basically the LaTech offer is worth more to him than a UNT offer since he isn't willing to risk their offer to see what Denton has to offer. If he was legitimately wanting to be here he would have taken the risk and visited with us knowing our offer would have still been there even if LaTech's wasn't. That would have been fine with him but it isn't.
