I don't feel like arguing this any further after this post. I feel like those responding against UH having value are acting out of bias and not looking at the facts. Regarding northern Illinois, they never had a recruiting class during their run like Houston has had recently. Regarding prolonged success, since 2006, Houston has had: - four 10+ win seasons, two of which were 13 win seasons - four 8 win seasons - two losing seasons, both of which were 5-7 years. That's the worst they could get. 5-7. While putting two coaches in the big 12, one now in the SEC. Not as good as TCU had during their stretch but certainly a good stretch. And with their recruiting classes, they Will experience continued success.

Because this G5 school is ranked 6th in the nation, easily handled Florida State last year, beat Lousiville last year, blanked Vanderbilt 34-0 last year, beat OU this year, has a decent chance of beating Louisville this year too. If they go undefeated, Houston will be in the playoffs therefore, this G5 school and the AAC conference will have had the exact same amount of BIG 12 playoff representatives since the beginning of this system: 1. I'm assuming your comment is a joke.

I agree with you that they are scared but I don't understand the logic. As of right now, the BIG 12 will not have a team in the playoffs until a BIG 12 team goes undefeated and/or beats solid OOC opponents the same year (unless another P5 conference has a terrible year as well). ESPN recently did a ranking of P5 conferences and they did not include the BIG 12 because everybody agreed they were the weakest link. While adding Houston will make recruiting even tougher and Houston will turn into a real powerhouse, it's not like Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and most of the other BIG 12 teams have a chance at the college football playoffs anyways unless they have an undefeated season. The BIG 12 is pretty poorly perceived right now. Adding Houston would bring more legitimacy to the conference. It would actually help them as a whole. Maybe I'm completely off. Regardless, I just don't get it...

Explaining the Mediocrity of Mean Green Football
GMG_Dallas replied to EagleGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
He would be no different than Mac was with us. Getting close to retirement and doesn't have the fire to make a program great anymore. I don't disagree that Les Miles wouldn't be valuable here, just that his top recruiter is doing poorly at UTSA. So far, UTSA looks to be on the way just like we are.- 25 replies

Explaining the Mediocrity of Mean Green Football
GMG_Dallas replied to EagleGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
His first season just started just like ours. Not sure how you can look the first 4 games of the year and say he isn't setting the world on fire therefore he's a bad recruiter. As of right now, UTSA has the top recruiting class in C-USA for 2017 and ranked 61 nationally per 247. http://utsa.247sports.com/Season/2017-Football/Commits Yes, that'll probably go down with the 4 star kid going away (assuming his scholarship offer gets pulled). They have 17 commits so far. I'm as much of a UNT homer as the next guy but give credit where it's due. So far, their head coach is out recruiting our entire conference and he's been around as long as our staff has. Edit: Their current recruiting score per 247 would have them ranked 3rd in C-USA in last year's recruiting. Number 2 last year was UAB who could offer a clean slate and a fresh start to anybody out there so you could say his current recruiting class would have ranked number 2 last year.- 25 replies

You answered your own question. Bring him here to recruit. Let Seth and Co. do the coaching.- 25 replies

Raiders release FB Marcel Reece - good for Jamize
GMG_Dallas replied to MDH's topic in Mean Green Football
Marcel Reece was a 4 time pro bowl selection and second team all pro in 2013 BTW. This is great news for Jamize Olawale and shows the amount of faith Oakland has in him. Not so much for Mr. Reece. -
What Results Are You Expecting the Next Two Weeks?
GMG_Dallas replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
Take out the Florida game and he is averaging just under 7 yards per rush. -
What???? I just dropped 5 grand on UNT to win it all on *insert sports gambling site*!!! Are you sure we aren't even in contention to make the playoffs?

Don't forget la tech was playing with their backup QB against Arkansas too who's a freshman (red shirt I believe).Ryan Higgins, who was serving a 1 game suspension for a dwi, has thrown for over 1200 yards in the last 3 games.

I'm definitely drunk on the kool-aid. Per espn, we are favored to best UTEP and 42% likely to beat UTSA. Army looked like a sure loss after they pummeled UTEP but after giving the Buffalo Bulls their first win of the season 23-20 in OT, I know we can win that game. Buffalo by the way had lost to Albany and Nevada before beating Army. Most other teams in our conference have lost games against seemingly lesser opponents as well (losses to Troy and Akron come to mind for some of our conference's elite). This gives me confidence that we can really look at this year as not just a building block but a confidence booster. I also believe with some nice additions in the trenches and more experience, we will be good next year. Come.on, Mean Green! Don't let me down!

He's scored in preseason but according to everything I've read, this is his first regular season TD of any sort. Go Lance! Get another!

Td!!! First of his career I believe.

They would have to beat Louisville... Tough but can be done.

Important information in regards to Rice game video stream
GMG_Dallas replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Just about to ask about this. With the quality of the steam, will They even be able to produce highlights? I've heard issues about the replay too... -
Just had to bring this up because the article states we are both even on special teams. This week's ESPN not top 10 had Rice's 3 yard punt against Baylor at number 5. If Keena can do what Keena does, we should win the positioning battle which will help a lot. As for Rice, keep 3 yard punts coming!

DRC: Wheeler dealing with notoriety following hit on Del Rio
GMG_Dallas replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll say what I told one of my coworkers who went to Auburn: If you're a Florida fan, your concern shouldn't be that Del Rio got hurt or if the hit was dirty or not, your concern should be that your O-Line got burned by our defensive end (and it wasn't the only time our defense got to the QB). When they face off against better SEC defenses, I'm worried their O-Line will get manhandled similar to how ours did against them. Never mind the fact that their starting offense was struggling against our defense. Consider this, SMU scored more points on us. I'm excited to see what this defense will do moving forward though. They have gotten better every week so far. Let's hope they continue to progress. -
Attendance was relatively good in 2013 with the exception of the Ball State game (per ESPN's records). You can't just take one winning season and say, oh, attendance should be great now. You need several winning seasons. We need to expect winning to be the norm, not the exception, before we see a continuous spike in attendance. Also, per ESPN, our attendance steadily got better during 2013, minus the Ball State game, and hit just over 26,000 against UTEP. The following game was a chilly one against UTSA and attendance was poor, although good by today's standards. Winning did increase our attendance as the year went on.

15,000 attendance and a win. If we can string together a few consecutive winning seasons, it won't matter who we play - people will come to watch. Every major P5 is the perfect example of this. They sell out (or nearly sell out) their stadiums to come watch their teams play even against weaker opponents. Plus, like I mentioned on an other thread, getting to 6+ wins regardless of opponent is what's most important right now. We need to be bowl eligible. That's the most important thing right now. An easy win helps us get there.
