  1. Some perspective on the defense for those calling it bad... without the turnovers to put SFA in scoring position, our guys held them to 7 points, forced 5 turnovers on downs, and 5 drives went 3-and-out. I wish the tackling had been better at times but considering run defense was our weakness last year, I think I'll take holding them to 2.2 yards per rushing attempt. Some more perspective... some FCS teams can be pretty good or at least play some good first halves. If you tuned in to #18 LSU vs Nicholls State in the 3rd quarter, you'd have seen a close 23-21 game. If you turned to #22 Arizona vs Northern Arizona at the start of the 4th, you'd have seen a 13-10 game. Last year's G5 darlings that are James Madison struggled to beat Gardner-Webb in a 13-6 game. We got the win. It wasn't easy. We're also missing some pieces on the offensive line so that needs to be cleaned up. At the end of the day we're 2-0 which is rare around here. Let's enjoy it a bit.
  2. Maybe that late hit after he was already out should have penalized. Doesn't heal him but punish the play. Damn.
  3. There's no adjustments to make other than cleaning up the penalties. We're beating ourselves and giving them 1st downs. Stop the penalties and it'll be over before the 4th starts.
  4. I guess I'll add this here... Northern Illinois with a former Northern Illinois player at head coach beat #5 Notre Dame on the road. Before being the NIU head coach, he was the RB coach for... the Baltimore Ravens. Paging Coach Orr. Come fulfill your destiny in a few years.
  5. Mentioned it in a thread a few weeks ago that we'd beat UTSA this year. Are we surprised they're seeing a big drop off after losing Harris?
  6. What's with the lack of discipline? Lashlee's 4th year now, right? You'd think this stuff would get better but bad holding penalties, bad offensive line play, bad turnovers. I'd imagine he's on the hot seat even with winning the aac last year.
  7. They have very productive D1 transfers coming in. Ken Evans Jr 6'5" guard from Jackson State: 23-24 stats 18.8 ppg 5.4 rpg 2.9 apg 39.2% from 3 Leland Walker 6'1" guard from Eastern Kentucky: 23-24 stats 15.4 ppg 2.7 rpg 4.1 apg 34.2% from 3 Ability Tandy 6'2" guard from Jacksonville State: 23-24 stats 17.8 ppg 2.6 rpg 1.4 apg 38.9% from 3 Baba Miller 6'11" forward from Florida State: 23-24 stats 7.6 ppg 4.9 rpg Then there's a sophomore forward from Louisville and another from Illinois coming in with limited playing time. Like them or not, they're going to be tough again this year. Doesn't mean we won't be better but they still have talent.
  8. Ironically, Hunter Dozier went to Denton High School. Another local product who couldn't stay home for baseball.
  9. Haven't seen it posted yet so here's the link. Some cool stuff on there.

  10. And if you want to read more about the QBR: https://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/123701/how-is-total-qbr-calculated-we-explain-our-quarterback-rating
  11. QBR is not an NCAA metric, it's an ESPN metric.
  12. 1 reception for 10 yards since leaving. Hope the money, if he got much, was worth it.
  13. On ESPN website: "QBR:Adjusted Total Quarterback Rating, which values the quarterback on all play types on a 0-100 scale adjusted for the strength of opposing defenses faced." Who do you think ESPN views as having the better defense: West Virginia or South Alabama?
  14. So you'd want your conference representative to get blown out on national TV in a playoff so that when your conference is evaluated everybody can point to the blowout and say you don't deserve a seat at the table? Ask me this question in 5 years after we as a conference get some playoff wins and my answer might be different. This year when they're already discussing redoing the playoff system? Give me every big win the conference can get. UTSA winning a playoff game this year would likely result in them being ranked next year as well which brings credibility to the conference and opens doors for us. Remember who does the rankings: people. And those people have a partnership with ESPN as the network their show is on so they're looking for every reason to knock down the AAC especially with contract negotiations coming up. This is not the time for our conference champ to be humiliated in the postseason.
  15. Who's more likely to win their conference: Sam Houston State or Purdue?
  16. No we don't. Wonder if we're too scared of getting beat deep on a play-action so we don't bring the extra personnel to the line.
  17. Before, you'd have to wait hours or days to get somebody out to hook you up to cable. On Saturday, you could have spent $11 (probably same as gas for that 45 minute drive you were considering to get to a watch party and back) and had instant access to the UNT game. I'm sorry you missed the game but that's on you, not on the current online streaming model.
  18. I thought so too. What I'd read is the beauty of the 3-3-5 is you're supposed to be able to blitz from any of the 8 who aren't on the line which allows you to bring pressure from all over the field and keep the QB guessing. I don't know if we're not doing that because we don't have the athletes for it or if the playcaller just isn't aggressive enough.
  19. There's not a secondary in the world that can consistently cover with no pressure. You see the same issue on NFL teams that have no pass rush.
  20. Yeah I'd root for UTSA in the playoffs. I'd root for UTSA against Alabama. I rooted for them against Texas a couple years back. Anything to validate the AAC, especially in its current form after Houston, Cincy, and UCF left. If we don't want to be CUSA 2.0, we need every big win we can get as a conference. What's that saying? You're only as good as the company you keep? Yeah, it applies here too.
  21. Link to article? To give credit where it's due...
  22. Baseball games stop selling beer in the 7th inning. That's why your dad wanted to leave. As for south alabama fans, it's likely because the beer ran out or their buzz was wearing off.
  23. I think we beat UTSA this year but they still have some good talent at QB with transfer Owen McCown. Whether he works out is to be determined but I don't think this is when they crash completely. A great point. It's like having a pro sports team that won't invest in its facilities. Reminds me of the Washington Redskins/Commanders whose owner was forced to sell in part because he wasn't investing in the franchise. If you're not investing what you can then why should you keep benefiting? I guess the AAC really wants that market.
  24. I agree you can't bank on opponents making mistakes. Do teams really get cleaner as the year goes on, though? I can't say I've ever seen an undisciplined team become disciplined in one season...
