When Is The Point Of No Return For Benford
GMG_Dallas replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I would like to say now just because I can't handle being humiliated by Drexel when they won 6 games last season... With the talent on the roster, would it be possible it appoint somebody on the staff as interim HC and re-assign Benford as something else where he doesn't have as big of an impact on the game without completely losing the locker room but also not waiting until the season is lost to make a change...? -
Incredible turnaround for both us and UTSA. Hopefully this SOS is taken into consideration when the coach of the year award is being decided.

We'll need to wait a couple of years but it will be Brandon Garner. Only a redshirt sophomore but already very productive. From his Mean Green bio regarding this season: "Has made nine appearances thus far for the Mean Green, with four starts and has posted 42 tackles (27 solo), 3.5 sacks and six tackles for loss" Once he's a regular starter, he'll be posting crazy number.

Really shows programs pull the trigger on coaches too quickly. Both from a firing but also hiring perspective. Strong was at Louisville 4 seasons 10-13) and it was his first HC job. Really not enough time to establish himself as a consistently solid HC (multiple cycles of recruiting, managing his staff, and having to hire several good coordinators to replace departed coordinators). He really only had one QB his entire time at L'Ville which was Teddy Bridgewater (that he recruited) and Lamar Jackson wasn't recruited by him. Programs get desperate and pick up the first shiny object they find. Interesting to see where they go from here...

Wow. Prayers for all of those involved. Can't imagine how that must have been for the players and fans right after an emotional game.

BeIN Sports is pretty big world wide. Not surprised by the quality of productions. They're like ESPN in foreign countries minus all the shouting people (more so as a network dedicated to sports). Pleasantly surprised to see McNabb during the half time show.

I think the trick plays need to be remembered when judging our coaches. The decision was clearly made to get more creative to give Alec a better chance at making plays since he has a hard time making crisp passes. Kudos to the staff for that. I feel like Seth is calling the shots more so than before this game. Does anybody have any insight into the play calling?

He's made a few plays, sure, but he's also 10/20 with an interception. We need some clock-consuming scoring drives in the second half to keep Southern Miss off the field although the quick scoring plays have been refreshing!

Predict the North Texas / Southern Miss score
GMG_Dallas replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Football
Have to second this. We started the year thinking 3 wins was our ceiling. We've surpassed that. Be happy for this year. Expect more next year. Edit: more next year if we don't get to a bowl game this year. -

Because 4 interceptions as many quarters was grounds to keep him as the starter. Stop. -
I didn't realize Pitt or Iowa were good losses...

They really deserve consideration for the cfp despite the 2 losses. OU is in consideration and Houston beat them. Louisville is 5th and Houston is making this look like a body bag game. Yes other teams in the top 10 have lost but not like this...

Good to know. Would be interesting to see who we would fall against...

One of the other big wins related to making a bowl win thanks to our APR is what it means to our seniors. They stuck through some bad seasons and a coaching change, including an interim HC last year, but despite all of that, they still had to focus on school. Would be a great reward for our seniors for sticking through it even though they could have easily given up and left. A true reward for their 4 (or 5) years of hard work in the classroom and it would set a great example for the young guys to focus on their studies if their goal is to play in bowl games.
-
Fair enough. Not like we're in a position to deny talented players if they decide they like green.

One or the projections has us against New Mexico and the other against Kansas state.

247 says he enrolled at TCU in 2015 and the dallas morning news says he redshirted in 2015 despite appearing in 3 games. That would give him 4 years of eligibility before the start of this season. This season goes away so 3 years. Sits out next year and then has 2 years left. Would be worth it if he's willing to work but commenters on the FrogsOWar SB nation page say he's lazy and expected to be handed playing time due to his recruiting ranking. Of that's his attitude, not sure we would even go after him.

I know that thread exists. I'm asking if these exact bowl games we are predicted to play in are only available to us if we get in based off APR. If I'm not mistaken, if you get in based of APR, you are plugged into whatever available bowl games there are. If you get in based off your record, you are locked into bowl games based off conference affiliation or national standing so I'm wondering if these two bowl games are only attainable if we get in based off APR and not if we get in based off our record.

Alec also has only played against SMU, Bethune Cookman, and half of WKU. Fine has played against much more fierce competition including Florida and MTSU.
-
Question: are these bowl games we would make it we finished 5-7 and got in based off APR and if so, would we still be eligible if we finished 6-6? Asking because I don't recall any bowl games against B12 teams available for CUSA schools.

We were reminded of this again today: https://www.google.com/amp/m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_582b6c69e4b0e39c1fa6a519/amp?client=ms-android-hms-tmobile-us#scso=uid_WCuohQADcrwKJivFGA4szA_0:0

Gotcha, my mistake. UNTLifer mentioned they went 1-11 his first year so they still were horrible. If Isadore can quickly learn the playbook and is healthy come next year, who do you think starts between him and Fine barring any grad transfers? I really think the coaches will redshirt Pearson so I don't consider him an option to start but if he does, good for him. Isadore comes in with JUCO experience and has a huge size advantage while Fine will have a semester's head start assuming Isadore is here in the spring. I know Isadore is coming off an ACL injury but there's a long time to get healthy by next September.

Would most average CUSA offenses have had to play a true freshman quarterback since week 2? Would most average CUSA offenses have an offensive line allowing the most sacks in NCAA fbs football or at least top 5 and a receiving corps with mostly freshmen, some of them true freshmen, and sophomores? Remember the situation we are in overall. Morris, while I appreciate him coming here for a chance to start, threw 3 pics against SMU and a pick 6 against Bethune Cookman, an FCS program who is having a horrible year...
