I think what will really work in our favor is family, just like with SL. McCasland is from Irving and went to Baylor. He also has a degree from Texas Tech. He's a texan all the way. Right now he gets to coach basically at home. Although he would likely leave for one of the true blue bloods, I think his dream job is Baylor and I don't see him leaving for many programs other than Baylor unless it's a bigger program in Texas or Oklahoma that can get him closer to Baylor while staying close to home.

He probably still thinks he has a spot on the team. But we'll also get to explain how he helped changed the culture here before he ever even played a snap. #NewDenton

Buffalo is having a good year record wise but I don't know enough about their schedule to say if their record means much. Back to WKU, Hollingsworth is one of the better players in C-USA IMO and Bassey, the 5 star true freshman center, is having a good year so far. They'll get better as the year goes on and have the star power to make a run in the C-USA tourney. We'll see how things play out but we all need to keep an eye on that team.

This is a tricky game to play. Players rotate in and out on defense constantly. Just because starters didn't play as much doesn't mean the guys playing were freshmen on their 4th career start. Missing your heisman finalist quarterback impacts your team differently. With Milton in they would have kept drives going and scored more putting more pressure on LSU to put up points. UCF's defense would have also had more breathers. Who knows how the game would have gone with all starters in but it's not a stretch to say the two teams aren't separated by much.

I saw that. Is that a more impressive win than beating Wisconsin at home? Syracuse has been relatively down the past few years while Wisconsin is consistently in the top 25 year after year.
-
And they played without their starting QB Milton. I think the outcome would have been different with him in the game.
-
Not too familiar with their squad.

Got to think Western Kentucky might be the best team left on our schedule. They don't have the best record but they still have Hollingsworth and added 5 star center who's played well so far as a freshman. They're only going to get better as the year goes along.

Was nice seeing Boise run out there with a big "Bleed Blue" flag. Anybody know if that was a Boise thing or if it was in support or law enforcement?

Comparing Recruiting Across The Years (December 2018)
GMG_Dallas replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I don't think there will be. Our QB recruiting and development has been strong and our key players are from the current regime (16/17 recruits). That 2014 class was strong but did not overwhelmingly compose the leaders of last year's team. Now the real question is, which P5s do we play in 2022/23 who will have to deal with this year's class as upperclassmen? -
Bears defense. It is what it is.

I agree with your post. Regarding the loss of Easly coinciding with when we started struggling, it's unfortunate if people view that as an indicator of Easly being better than Torrey. Losing Easly also coincided with us losing Kemon Hall for several games, arguably our best defensive player, and Mason Fine getting hurt. It was the first game all year where we got banged up. Fine was never the same after that game. It's obvious he was playing hurt considering how often he finished games hobbling after the LT game. Personally, I prefer Easly over Torrey as a lead back because our offense lacks physicality. We don't really have a big, physical receiver or TE that is heavily used. Easly gave us balance that was greatly needed. We'll need him next year no matter how good Torrey is.

19' OG Offer: Ricky Stromberg (Tulsa Union) - 3 star .8499
GMG_Dallas replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
For some of these kids, all it takes an ankle or a little shoulder. They're craving the ability to say they play P5 ball so bad that they'll take any P5 offer no matter how bad the team is. -
If he's competitive, he looked at that bowl loss and said "I'm starting day 1 and never looking back." If 1 bad loss contributes to anybody changing their mind on where they want to play football, they're not the kind of player we should want. I highly doubt that's the case here.
-
Still have Oscar Ardeway who is also highly rated. While this hurts mostly due to his size, I think we'll be ok.
-
A win tomorrow will be huge towards setting the tone for the rest of the year. I'm not sold on our team yet based on the strength of schedule. UNM has a good basketball tradition and looked really tough at times against Colorado. Let's prove me wrong, guys!

Problem is Gordon was going to get every opportunity to fix it as a high draft pick. Wilson won't have that luxury as an UDFA. He needs to finish the year strong.

***OFFICIAL 2018 New Mexico Bowl Game Thread***
GMG_Dallas replied to RiseUNT's topic in Mean Green Football
I just woke up (work midnight to 8 am and needed to get my sleep in). Anybody care to recap what happened to Fine? -
I will be 100% satisfied if the G5 gets 1 guaranteed spot. Why? Because it means every year the G5 gets at least 1 opportunity to disrupt the P5 party. Boise State, TCU (pre Big 12), UCF... There are championship worthy G5 teams every year. It's just about getting invited to the show. Get a guaranteed spot, regularly beat some P5 ass, and make up ground. It's about baby steps and it's quite frankly one of the best opportunities to make some noise due to it being the biggest stage. UCF would have caused problems last year and, were there an 8 team playoff this year, would be flat out better than every P5 team in the playoff except for Alabama. OU and Clemson would be tough matchups and I think they would beat Notre Dame. Baby steps.

Not sure he's going to th NFL for anything less than QB unless he just doesn't want to play in the minors waiting to get called up to MLB.

https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/athletics/mlb-rumors-kyler-murrays-contract-has-provision-if-he-chooses-nfl He would have to repay part of his guaranteed money and be done with it. If he's serious about the NFL and GMs are saying he'll go in the 1st round he might do it.

Rumor is he prefers football and would rather go to the NFL as a QB. The game against Alabama will go a long way to determining what he does IMO.

I don't give a rats was if the SEC gets 7 spots as long qs the G5 gets an automatic qualifier and it needs to be a spot seeded in the top 6 since along with the P5 conference champs.
-
Honestly made me wonder if he's saying that just to to gain support for the idea of an 8 team playoff. I really don't care about the motive if it happens. An automatic bid for the highest ranked G5 would be great. Edit: support for an 8 team playoff because at this point every president and AD at a school not in the SEC and not one of the traditional blue bloods should want to expand the playoff. The "smaller" P5 schools are still getting shafted from a competition standpoint.
-
We need Kyler Murray to go pro this year and have a good rookie year. People say he's 5 foot 8 so if he can do find early success, it might pave the way for Fine.
