If Pete Delkus could just change the weather to sunny and 75 we'd be fine.
-
Would not like that. The best round 1 and round 2 match-ups for Cinderella runs fall to seeds 11-14. Those seeds avoid seeds 1 and 2 until the sweet 16.

I was really thinking we could get an at- large by winning out and a conference tourney loss but I'm not so sure looking at that website. Lots of teams with net rankings in the 40-50 range being left out. Basically, half the spots go to conference tournament champions. 20 ish spots will go to teams ranked in the top 30 who didn't win their conference tournament. We really need each conference leader to handle business in their tournaments. No room for poorly ranked schools to pull off major tournament upsets or it hurts our at-large chance. Like others have said, win and it's not a problem.

Don't know if that has been mention anywhere, but... NCAA top 36: https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2022-02-21/mens-college-basketball-rankingskansas-and-purdue-climb-top-five-andy-katzs

3 Teams That Pose Threat to North Texas
GMG_Dallas replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think if we win out, even a loss in the conference tourney would give us a net 50 ranking so we would be ok for an at large. Every at large team has bad losses. They just have good wins to counter them which is where our conference strength hurts us. That said, I find it unlikely we're left out with a NET ranking better than 50 but we'll see. Win the tournament and that's not a problem. -

Nope. Each round, an east teams plays a west team. -
Yeah I'm not a fan of this bracket. A first round upset would likely lead to playing Texas tech in the following round which is tough. There's a bracket from a few days ago that had us playing Houston in a 5v12 match up which I love. Very winnable game right now. The following round would have us playing the winner of Illinois and who ever they play which Illinois has had some bad losses this year such as losing by 16 to Maryland who has a losing record. Kansas was the 1 seed in the region which could be a good rematch. Really liked that bracket for us lol.

I'll be there Thursday plus my wife, 3 step kids, and 2 kids who have never been (party of 7). I've got the 3 and 5 years olds saying "Go Mean Green" every day and my step-daughter recognizing Tylor Perry when watching the UAB highlights. Trying to expand the fan base, one kid at a time. Also, USA Today released their latest bracketology and have us as 11 facing 6 LSU. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2022/02/21/ncaa-bracketology-battle-no-1-seed-close-ever/6877443001/

See I'd be ok with dipping a toe such as 4 regular players with 1 bench guy (outside Scott and Perry) for a few minutes here and there but not having bench guys start/finish games unless it's a 20 point lead with a few minutes left. Games can take a bad turn really fast and the last thing we want is cold starters having to finish a game they haven't played much in.

Not only are there 2 teams in the west breathing down our necks but I want to be in the best position for an at-large should we lose in the conference tourney. Best way to do that is to win-out in the regular season. Can't let off the gas now.
-
If he does, it's intentional by Macasland and maybe even by choice on Perry's part. Some guys love that role and thrive in it. Think Manu Ginobili and Jason Terry in the NBA. I hope he continues in this role. He's an X-Factor just like they were for the Spurs and Mavs.
-
Yes I know that. It was a tease at everybody saying McCasland is leaving and always finding a way to be negative when our teams are successful. Guess y'all aren't the happy drunk type. 🙄
-
I have a thought for you.... instead of Macasland leaving at the end of the year, let's start the "tylor perry is going to *insert school here* because we always lose our best players to transfers and UNT can never hold their best players."
-
He does.
-
I agree. That and it seems he likes going the Juco route. He wants guys with something to prove and who were slept on coming out of high school. Hamlet, McBride, and Perry type guys. I love getting those guys who feel like the world is against them. They play with a different type of fire.
-
I've been thinking the same but then looked up national signing day for basketball and apparently it's in April. I'm guessing recruiting might pick up after the season.

The rankings in our hearts.

Yeah so hopefully this is on stadium... Edit: it is indeed on their schedule.

Jay Bilas From ESPN 1-68 rankings 2-17

Released by another ESPN reporter 20 minutes later, mid major rankings: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/33303815/colorado-state-back-kc-mid-major-top-10-plus-11-players-know-conference-tournaments-start 2. North Texas Mean Green (Conference USA) Last week: 7 No fan base is enjoying the bottle service and plush couches inside the swankiest club in basketball quite like the good folks in Denton. The Mean Green rolled Rice 67-44 on Saturday in the first of three massive games away from "The Super Pit." Senior Thomas Bell matched his career high with 21 points as UNT extended its win streak to 10 games and 16-of-17 overall, tied for the best stretch in program history. Coach Grant McCasland's men are holding teams to 55.5 PPG, the fewest in all of Division I! UAB is at #9. -

I mean, of course we do but I fail to see how that'll make a difference in media perception at this point. I'm not necessarily bothered by UAB being ranked higher considering they did beat us but being ranked 31 spots better? How? -
I wonder why nobody takes ESPN seriously anymore... https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/33281961/jay-bilas-unveils-1-68-men-college-basketball-rankings-version-20 33. UAB Blazers The Blazers look like they will be in the NCAA at-large discussion -- and rightly so -- but Andy Kennedy's team must play better away from Birmingham. Recent losses at Marshall and Old Dominion are not helping the case. What is helping the case is the play of Jordan Walker, the former Seton Hall and Tulane guard who erupted for 42 points against Middle Tennessee on Feb. 5. Walker would be fun to watch in the NCAA tournament, but UAB needs to get there first. .... 64. North Texas Mean Green Anybody want to face the Mean Green in March? UNT is 16-1 since back-to-back losses to Kansas and Miami back in November, and this is also the program that took down Jaden Ivey, Zach Edey and Purdue in the NCAA tournament last March. Conference USA opponents have not figured out the outside-inside duo of point guard Tylor Perry (13.5 PPG, 2.6 APG) and undersized power forward Thomas Bell (12.8 PPG, 6.9 RPG).

Updated bracketolog(ies) (2/14/2022)
GMG_Dallas replied to greenminer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Certainly feels like it. Going to need a lot of schools to go on losing streaks. The problem at this point of the season is the Power Conferences are littered with schools with high NET rankings so they're playing Quad 1 games almost weekly if not multiple times per week. They have weekly opportunities to make-up for bad losses early in the season where as we basically need to run the table because we only have a single Quad 1 game left.
