PG Offer: Themus Fulks; Dodge City C.C.
GMG_Dallas replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
The first stat I looked at was his FT %. 78% on 184 FTs in 33 games (about 5.5 per game). I've seen a very small amount of video but it seems he likes getting to the rim which would explain his free throw totals. He also finishes through contact and gets those and-1 opportunities. He does a good job at finding the open man under the basket when the defense crashes on him as well which is reflected in his 5.5 assists per game. In those 33 games, he shot right around 10 2-point shots per game and shoots 52% on his field goals. Hopefully he can beat defenders at this level and wreck havoc driving to the basket. In the highlights I saw, he gets out in transition in a hurry. The question I have is, can he shoot or does he depend on getting to the rim. If he can't get to the rim, what does his game look like? He shot 40% from 3 but shot just over 1 per game... -

Understood. I don't know much about UNT athletics pre 2008 (other than Leonard Hopkins who I briefly worked with a few years ago. Nice guy.) As such, I can't relate to the teams seen in the 70s. I will say 2 things. Guys like Tony Mitchell are great talents but can be hard to coach. I'm not sure that guy cared. Showing my youth here but I remember seeing him eating at Kerr regularly and he just did not look like an approachable guy. It was obvious to me he was at UNT because his school records messed up his Missouri plans. Can't speak for the others but seeing how Grant coaches and how can he can really drill into guys, he really needs to be selective and pick great characters as opposed to just great talents. Regarding these recruits he is getting, there's so many HS and JUCO programs that recruiting sites can't keep up. As such, 247 only has 8 JUCOs ranked for 2022. I researched this player and he actually graduated HS in 2019, averaged over 32 ppg and was a McDonald's All American nominee. He went to a secondary prep school for a year then went to South Carolina State before going JUCO. I don't know why he didn't get more interest in HS and isn't getting more now. One constant is he can score. I do hope recruiting picks up a bit. I'm curious as to whether it's Grant being very selective or having a hard time recruiting. -
For those who missed it. This helps us.

What you qualify as an uptick in recruiting? Is it stars? Or is it that it appears as though we're "stealth" recruiting? I've been curious about it as well and I'm wondering what others think. -
Maybe if he never wins coach of the year, other ADs will think he's a bad coach and we can keep him for the next 40 years?

That's not quite how that works... the school has a fund dedicated for student organizations. Just because an organization exists, doesn't mean they necessarily use money from the fund. When I was on campus, your organization had to apply for funds and would get approved or denied but otherwise you would do fundraisers or spend your own money. In regards to who gets money, denying one because you don't agree with them is again dangerous territory. In that case, somebody will always disagree with something, nobody gets money or approved as an organization, and that's the end of it. It's all or nothing, not all if you agree and nothing if you don't. Regarding the "leader," I can see why she's unpopular. Thanks for posting the video and tweet. I've never seen somebody describe themselves the way she does. She wants attention. Stop protesting her "events" and she'll probably get bored. Chaos gives her platform the viewership she wants so she's not going to stop.

Tickets for Thursday and Friday purchased!
GMG_Dallas replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Basketball
We will be playing each day without rest just like every other team however, with Kerr Hall offering unlimited cereal, burgers, and breakfast until 2 am, our team will be more tired than the others because they don't have UNT meal plans like our guys do. -
Just one example of SuperPit inequities

Hey I was looking through this thread instead of being productive at home and decided to research this for y'all interested. There's multiple camera angles and multiple projects linked on the left side of the screen. For this project, there's 2 exterior time lapse videos and and 2 interior. https://uh.edu/infotech/services/webcam/timelapse/fertitta-inside2/ https://uh.edu/infotech/services/webcam/timelapse/fertitta-inside/ https://uh.edu/infotech/services/webcam/timelapse/fertitta-hsc/ https://uh.edu/infotech/services/webcam/timelapse/fertitta-spg/ Enjoy! -

From what I gather, they're only sold by session so for Thursday you would buy all men's quarterfinal games and/or all women's games. Attend 1 or all, it's the same price. That said, go to seat geek and put in coupon code KLTY50 and it's half off. Your Thursday tickets would go from $20/person/session to $10 (plus fees which are minimal). Basically the price of a single game at the Pit. Here's the link: https://seatgeek.com/c-usa-basketball-championships-tickets?oq=cusa+basketball+championships+1+tickets -

I don't know anything about either one of them and won't blindly pick a side. That said, I'm 100% for freedom of speech regardless of if I like it or not. It's one of the greatest things about our country. Asking Smastrek to ban YCT and prevent events because of one group's opinion not only would set a dangerous precedent on who gets to pick what's allowed on campus, he would be violating the constitution as a public (government) employee no different than a police department or government official banning a peaceful protest. As a public university president, he's bound to uphold the constitution.

Maybe passion for the team? Some people like to take the W and move on. Some people like to find areas that can improve. I understand your point that it starts to get old reading the same criticism from the same person when the team is doing well. It's obvious coach knows what he's doing. And at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what any of us say here, we all know nothing will change until you get a banner flown over the Super Pit. That being said: 📢 If you really want a deeper rotation, try flying a banner of the Super Pit and maybe coach will make a change!
-
I don't understand this mentality of going from extreme to another. It's like the arena thread of 7k or 10k. Why not in between? Asking for a deeper rotation doesn't mean playing 10+ guys and it doesn't mean you have to keep the same rotation all season. NBA teams typically have a more loose rotation early on and make it smaller as they get to the end of the season and into the playoffs. I realize it's a much longer season but I feel like it still applies. With our conference, it's nearly required to win the conference tourney to get in the big dance. I'd be OK with dropping an extra game or two, ending up 2nd or 3rd, but being more fresh for the tourney. Being 1st doesn't matter if your guys are too tired at the end of the season when it matters most. Time will tell. I still feel good about the season and what's in store this week.

As is the norm. I feel like if "journalists" would stop making both sides appear so inflammatory, people wouldn't be at eachothers throats so quickly calling them racist, homophobic etc... simply because they have a policy disagreement. I'm sometimes ashamed to say I graduated from the Mayborn School of Journalism. Journalism today is why I chose to pursue a different career path. Side note, most of my family and family friends are very liberal but they don't behave this way. There's good people out there on both sides but I'm afraid the younger generations were never taught or have forgotten how to communicate face-to-face due to social media and texting which is why we are where we are today. Society is filled with savages who can't handle the challenge of thinking outside of their box.

Right. And I understand you usually have a few deep bench guys who are mostly there to be practice bodies but those are usually walk-ons. I wouldn't even be asking this question if Wright had been getting 5 minutes per game. Literally just to give a slight breather here and there instead of having a guy backing off on defense because he's in foul trouble. I will say I trust in Mac and I don't believe it'll impact the team in the tournament as a whole even with potentially (hopefully) 3 games in 3 days) because every team will be playing the same schedule or worst due to seeding. That said, I can see it being problematic (because it has been) in a single game and unfortunately, with single elimination games afoot, we can't put ourselves at a disadvantage with foul trouble. I think we as fans see the W and the record, smile, and move on. Foul trouble has put us at risk several times. The team persevered and won most of the time but we're a few Tylor Perry misses away from being 2nd or 3rd in the west.
-
Then why recruit them? You brought Wright in for one year for nothing? Seems like a waste.
-
He's been bad at FTs all year, I don't think end of year fatigue is the issue - he's just not a shooter. That said, I do think we'd benefit from an extra man in the rotation to give guys a break. When we get in foul trouble, our defense struggles. They can't be as physical and that's when UTEP took advantage today. An extra player in the paint such as Wright would be great.

Considering the thread topic and the national events that have taken place the past 2 years, it's very obvious what you meant and the type of people you were referring to as hateful. I'm not going to go back and forth with you on this; I can go on Twitter if I want to read this kind of commentary. Good day.
-
No soul searching needed. I know you're type. You showed it in your original comment. You'll try to play games about semantics and throw out all the "well if you felt offended maybe that's a you problem" like you already have. You're unable to have a legitimate conversation about why people have different opinions without attacking. It's further evidenced by your description of my response as lashing out and uncivilized. Any response disagreeing with yours is "lashing out" and "uncivilized."

This response from ColoradoEagle is everything you need to know about why we can't have civilized discussions. People like that believe anybody who disagrees with them is racist, classist, homophobic, etc... because of differences in opinion and feels like those who disagree with them are beneath them. So, in short, somebody like me who is a child of immigrants, first generation college student, grew up with a single mother below the poverty line, hispanic, and who's dad suffers from mental health and was in-and-out of my life growing up because of it would be labeled as racist, classist, and everything else because of a difference of opinion which I have based on personal experience. Members of the left have a sense of superiority and anybody who disagrees is ignorant and therefore inferior and unworthy of their time. If you meet criteria of a minority category and disagree with them, you just don't know better.

Just one example of SuperPit inequities
GMG_Dallas replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Same. I think our floor is great. I think people love the Fertitta Center because every photo they see is of it full with bright lights so it looks more exciting. I'm sorry but you can't convince me in terms of interior esthetics that the Fertitta Center is leaps and bounds better than the Super Pit like people proclaim. Yeah, the Super Pit has some areas that could be updated but I'd pretty disappointed if they spent $60 million to turn the Super Pit into what TCU or UH's arenas look like. -
Honest question. Got some tickets for Friday's events (can't make Thursday or Saturday) and all the tickets appear to be general admission. Now, the tickets through seat geek have a row/seat number. Will that row/seat number be honored or is it first come, first served?
-
I actually think it's the best one for us. St Mary's just beat Gonzaga, UCONN is looking tough, Texas has good defense like us. Houston has looked very vulnerable at times. I think we could frustrate them. Limit turnovers and stop the fast break and what you're left with is an average 3 point shooting team.
-
You're really sleeping on the winner of FIU/Marshall making a run. Never look past an opponent in March!!!

Why can't we be the next Houston?

I feel you on this. Ever since I found out Fertita has mob ties I've been working on a career change. Been mailing resumes to every local mob I can find. Working on my pizza dough tosses while I wait on callbacks. Fingers crossed🤞
