I saw some Ewers highlights from Southlake and I think he'll be a bust by P5 standards. Dude constantly under-throws his receivers. From the videos I saw, he even cost his team some touchdowns with how badly the balls were under-thrown. Maybe they've fixed that by addressing his footwork and off-balance throws. I guess that's why I'm not an analyst. Or maybe driving a Ferrari at Southlake with top notch coaching and camps helped him get that rating. I don't know. Back to UNT talk, WanderingEagle hit it with the Ruder talk from last year and that's where my concerns are with Aune. So he looks great in camp in a system he's been in for 3 years. Great? He should look better than the guy who just got here. Now show us in a game that you can do it. Otherwise it's all useless. Reminds me of the famous Allen Iverson rant. "We talking about practice?"

Gotcha. I misunderstood. My bad. Well that does indeed add a fun dynamic to the transfer then.

Memphis' website says he redshirted last year. I think we're looking too much into this in regards to Gunnell. Seems pretty plain. He never used his one-time free pass and is using it now. Based on Vito's post above, he's good to go.

Y'all are taking this single website's word way too seriously. Nothing else has been said by any other outlet or team page. Don't know what these folks know that nobody else does...

If Littrell beat UTEP will you forgive his past sins?
GMG_Dallas replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
McCarney would have never kept such secrets from us, the fans. In all seriousness, I'm not seeing why he wouldn't be eligible. He played his true freshman and true sophomore seasons. He used the redshirt last year per Memphis' website. Plus he graduated from Memphis and is a grad transfer so there's not supposed to be any wait to be eligible. I'm not buying what this website says just yet.- 128 replies

Looks like UNT was favored until it became more obvious the same QB who started last year would be starting again next week.- 128 replies

Aune was a TCU signee 10 years ago though. How many schools wanted him this time around being this far removed from HS football? I get your point though...- 128 replies

Pro-tip I've learned to prevent your car from being burglarized: when you park your car, open your glove box and arm rest compartment, pull everything out and leave it on the seat. Obviously don't leave anything of value. You're going to stick out anywhere you go with out-of-state license plates. The idea here is thiefs can see through the windows that you've got nothing worth taking in those compartments and move on to the next car. A large portion of auto burglaries are unlocked vehicles and valuables left in plain view. Crime happens even in the safest neighborhoods. I realize this has nothing to do with personal safety but nobody wants to deal with a broken window when they're out of town and supposed to be going to an event.

If Littrell beat UTEP will you forgive his past sins?
GMG_Dallas replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
Well you're in luck! That same sub-50% completion percentage and 0/2 TD/INT performance we ended the season with will be starting us off in 8 days! You're probably right about SL but is that his fault? I mean, how dare he strike QB gold right off the bat with Fine and have back-to-back 9 win seasons so quickly in his tenure! I think it is unfortunate (as it pertains to his overall evaluation) that the offensive success came so quickly after he took over. Fine masked so many deficiencies and late game heroics gave us a better record than we probably should have had considering the roster he inherited. Our defense wasn't up to par many of Fines years. Recruiting, especially on defense, just hadn't caught up from the hole dug during the McCarney years. It looks better now except for the QB! If he put 2020-2021's rosters with Fine, that'd be something else. Edits for spelling..- 128 replies

If UNT had beat 6-6 Miami of Ohio 8 months ago, would you hold that bowl win in higher regard than you do the Mason Fine years and back to back 9-win seasons despite no bowl wins? I'm not crapping on the HOD win. I just don't think that alone puts Danny Mac over SL considering it was McCarney's only winning season here and the bowl opponent has little recognition in the football wold.- 128 replies

I loved every bit of that 2013 HOD win but let's not overvalue that win against a terrible 7-win opponent with only a handful of winning seasons in the past 30 years. SL played an 11-win Troy team that beat a top 25 LSU earlier in the year and an 11-win Utah State with a QB that was later drafted in the first round. I'm disappointed by the results but the HOD win doesn't put Danny Mac over SL.- 128 replies

If Littrell beat UTEP will you forgive his past sins?
GMG_Dallas replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
Absolutely... in 2013. Which is why I said in an earlier post you have to look a little further than the surface stats for DT. The team was built to ground and pound and play strong defense. What was expected of him and how the offense was ran is reflected in those "poor" stats. SL's teams are supposed to be passing offenses so when we look at Aune's numbers and compare the two, it's misleading. Aune's numbers are inflated by Darden's season in 2020 just like Bean's were. Take away Darden and last year is what you get. DT never had that kind of receiving threat. I agree with everything you said, though.- 128 replies

Other than Dunbar, who did Thompson have to work with on offense? Chancellor was the only receiving threat. No he wasn't great prior to 2013. Prior to 2013, the rosters as a whole weren't nearly as talented as what Aune has had to work with. Aune's TD numbers are inflated by Jaelon Darden's monster 2020 year...- 128 replies

UNT played 2 P5s per year with Thompson and he didn't have somebody like Jaelon Darden catching 75% of his TD passes like Aune did in 2020. You have to look a little beyond their numbers. We've seen them both play. Thompson was a decent game manager whose best WR was Brelan Chancellor. Darden had more TDs in 2020 than Chancellor had for his career.- 128 replies

We're not comparing the QB rooms. We're comparing the stubbornness between two different coaches who insist(ed) on starting mediocre at best QBs because it's who they were comfortable with. A QB who's a career 50% passer and averages 1 TD per game for his career shouldn't keep starting.- 128 replies
