Fair enough. I was mostly referring to the void in my heart left by our current qb play.

Tell her to check her city email. My brother works for the city and showed me.

La Tech QB been picked off twice now. They're beating themselves with these turnovers.
-
Missouri taking over a bit.
-
They got pinned deep by a good punt and are in trouble but their defense has been playing well. Secondary getting their heads turned around and playing the ball in man coverage. They've made some impressive plays early.
-
Should we have done the same after 2015?
-
Very well-placed ball down field.
-
La Tech looking pretty good so far. No points on the board but they're moving the ball well.

Actually watched this video the other day to remind myself what a competent QB playing at UNT could look like. Shorter definitely showed promise and boy does he play physical. Excited to see him on the field again.

I disagree with you because I'm biased and want to see somebody else at QB but I agree with you logically. An 18 point lead in college is nothing and I've watched games where touchdowns are scored nearly every minute. Just big play after big play. I've seen it at the NFL level too. Happens more often than we may realize. A pick in your own territory, even with just a few more minutes, can make things dicey in am otherwise finished game. I think the last drive with 2:28 in the game, you can throw somebody else out there for a couple minutes. Now like you pointed out, what are you even doing at that point? Run plays. Not much benefit in putting a backup in there. Maybe let him throw a couple slants or screens but that's not really the gameplan anyways and it's a huge risk. I'd need more than an 18 point lead to feel comfortable letting a backup QB run some passing plays, even if I do believe the backup QB is better than the starter. Coming in cold late in the game can be complicated.

SMU offering 4 free tickets for their home opener to all city of Dallas employees. Wonder if UNT does the same for city of Denton employees... Great way to make a few fans or at least get butts in the seats for a game.

If Littrell beat SMU will you forgive his past sins?
GMG_Dallas replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
No. I'm not as down on him as others seem to be, mainly because the players seem to still believe in him. It'll take the season for me to decide where I stand. -
It is a joke. Playing time the last game really just means you're getting cut and they don't want roster players getting hurt before the season starts.
-
Oh of course. Everybody was there when you get a big win.
-
Feel like he didn't get a fair shake. They actually cut him before the last preseason game. He didn't touch the ball in the first game after he was signed either. He only got touches in 1 preseason game. Philly's garbage anyways.

Be sure to have the couch ready the way you like it when she gets home. I know what my setup would look like.

DRC: Here’s UNT’s depth chart for its game against SMU
GMG_Dallas replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I might be blinded by fandom here but our depth chart looks really good to me. As much as SL gets hate for bad recruiting classes, this depth chart is, for the most part, really talented AND young. Defense has some holes but that offense is legit. Hopefully the coaches can translate that to results. -
Oh but we can play what ifs all day is what some are saying. You bring up some very valid unforced errors on the UTEP side that would have changed the game. We took over in the second half for sure but we got a lot of big breaks in the first half.
-
If this is your response, why make several comments that SMU may not have as substantial of a talent advantage as some think? I brought up the most important talent advantage they have and you respond that the game will be decided on the field. Great debate.

Aune just hit 26 career TD passes this past Saturday. Mordecai had 39 last year alone. 9 times put of 10, the team with the better QB wins. Aune may have been named CUSA player of the week (really? With only 5 teams in action?) but this Saturday will demand a substantially greater level of QB play if we want to win.
-
How can you bring up Arkansas being a dog turd the year we beat them without knowing what UTEP will be this year? If UTEP finishes 3-9, this win will have little value other than a checkmark in the win column.

Optimistic - Pessimistic -Realistic Score
GMG_Dallas replied to Coach_1976's topic in Mean Green Football
Optimistic - UNT 38 - SMU 21 SMU struggles to get their footing with a new staff and roster additions. UNT dominates to the line of scrimmage and settles into a 2 TD lead into the 3rd quarter. SMU starts clicking late in the 3rd but by then it's too late and we drain the clock with an established ground game. Pessimistic - UNT 14 - SMU 45 SMU comes out firing behind the arm of Tanner Mordecai. One of 2021's best quarterbacks picks up where he left off and we can't keep up. Despite the run game finding success, SMU puts up points in a hurry so we're forced to put the ball in the air more and Aune is exposed. He completes just below 50% of his passes and throws 2 interceptions with his only touchdown coming on the ground. Realistic - UNT 31 - SMU 51 Mix of the two above predictions. Our lines dominate the line of scrimmage but ultimately our secondary can't keep up and gets torched repeatedly. We turn to the passing game more to keep up but Aune can't complete enough passes to keep the chains moving. Our RBs breakaway on a few big runs to keep us within reach into the 3rd but Mordecai pulls them away out of a running attack's reach. -
And he'll literally overthrow guys again Saturday. SMU's passing game is much better than UTEP's. I'm just cautioning against looking at this first game as any indication of how we'll do in 5 days.
