Whose North Texas is it, Anyway? Where the past is made up and the wins don't matter
-
Sucks Davis is gone but excited to see who we can bring in.

Yet no ones jumping in. We getting crying Jordan'd out there and yet all this talk of "rivalry" and "standing up for our guys" means nothing! Nothing! C'mon people. If you want to be part of #NewDenton, the Mean Green have to have a presence on social media. I know this is a terrible pep talk, but y'all are all "nutsack this" and no bite.

I got you @TheReal_jayD. Where are the rest of you? Get your twitter on, stand up for your boys.

Yes, obviously, but I don't know why we're dealing with hypotheticals. The quantifiable reality at this point in time is that we were outrecruited by other coaching staffs. I love our guys in green, and want them to btho of all those other teams. I can appreciate an underrated team, and maybe this class will lead us to a bowl game one day, but from a business perspective, the recruiting strategy is not sustainable, that is proven historically and academically. Next year we have to get better.

Whoa whoa whoa. Back up. We aren't going there. These are our dudes and they're here to play. Can't stop them from checking out another school sure, but we should convince them they are integral to North Texas' vision as a football program. And I'm not talking about 4 or 5 star players. Talking about your Jimmy and Joe 3 star players, which if I looked at it correctly, there were 1,787 of them this year.

I'm digging the guys on offense.
-
So you're implying that by criticizing the coach we are inherently criticizing the player he ends up signing? No. Our coaches can't keep a target from going to another G5 school. That's the criticism.
-
I understand your point, but folks here aren't bashing the class, but the coaching's staff's ability to compete with other schools for recruits.

Meh it's one practice. We've got years ahead of trying fix this problem of a department that was left. WB has a monster of a project to fix. I get what you're saying that Tech beating us to the punch is a part of the whole, but at this moment I'm more worried about the Department internally (in terms of administrative staff and management structures that have been a source of our woes), our now-failing infrastructure, and coaching staff. Small steps, Ellie. 40 years of ineffectiveness won't be fixed in 6 months. By fixing our administrative staffing problems, perhaps this would not be an issue (as in, someone in the AD would have stepped up). I don't think we're there yet.

Tech is holding one practice at the Star and it exemplifies the athletic failures of the past 40 years?

Right, so a primary use for this facility is HS games. Primary use for Apogee is college games. I know it's superficial and maybe even a bit spurious, but I don't want to be associated with having to use a HS facility for our Green and White game.

I have decided I really like the Brian Parrish OL signing

Sorry I couldn't help myself -
And so does Cowboys stadium. But when high school's play at Apogee or ATT, they play on UNT's or Cowboys' field. The Star is a practice facility for the Cowboys that was built with the promise of hosting high school games. Like I said, I'm okay with practice for the purposes of recruiting and getting an article on CBS 11's page. But main/primary North Texas events should be hosted at North Texas.
-
I can see that a practice in the Star with recruits could be beneficial. But the Spring game must be at Apogee. Last year's event with the sale brought in tons of coaches, recruits, parents, and fans. Continue building our brand, not borrowing someone else's - especially not in a building that will host high school games.

Whoa totally missed this one. They're still not allowed to unionize? -

Oh shoot I misread Guyton. Thought he was both from Athens, and then went back to attend TVCC. I'll remove.

Like this. This is boring conversation. (is that you NTAlum07?) What are the observable qualities you think suggest that Fine won't be able to win the starting job? And I don't mean he fumbles all the time, I'm talking about mechanics, delivery, accuracy, film. Otherwise we continue to circle the thread-killing drain of "well he sucks".
-
Does Houston count? If so that's 3 from that area. Pearson (Texarkana) Darden (Houston) Cam Johnson (Houston) Makyle Sanders (Tyler) Brammer (Richmond)

My observations aren't futile ;-) It's the comparison of, well this guy that did very well in his career had a worse freshman year than Fine. There's no way of knowing how Fine will bounce back, and it's just hope we're grasping for. So the rest of my post was meant to suggest observable qualities that we could use to project how Fine could grow. Get Mullens out of the conversation, bring Pearson in and let's talk about growth after we watch them compete this spring. I mean it's fun to talk about how he could do based on how he looked live, but to suggest he either sucks or he's great is both boring conversation and unrealistic at this point in time. Call me Cautious Clay?
