  1. And it has been without Daryl Mason.
  2. #1 is #1 in face value and I'll take it and run with it for a week or two, or three. We've got some quick dudes up front, and I think we can maintain top-level numbers that we have been carrying over from last year. I think we can keep it in the top 20 by season's end considering some of our upcoming competition.
  3. Article had some great tidbits I didn't know. NT Has Chance For Best Non-Conference Record In FBS Since 1968 On Saturday The Mean Green trend of forcing turnovers is continuing in 2014. NT has forced 11 turnovers this season, which is the 14th-most in the country. North Texas is a +4 this season and since Dan McCarney took over in 2011 the Mean Green is a +25 in turnover margin. NT is cashing in on those mistakes this season, having scored 55 points off of turnovers. Points off of turnovers have accounted for 37 percent of the Mean Green offense. The 55 points NT has scored this season off of opponent turnovers ranks fifth in the nation. North Texas ranks in the top-20 nationally in rushing defense (11th), total defense (17th), sacks (1st), 3rd down percentage defense (15th), tackles for loss (17th), and interceptions (19th). NT leads C-USA in total defense and sacks. The Mean Green ranks in the top-three in Conference USA in 16 different offensive, defensive and special teams categories. North Texas is one of seven teams left in the nation that are perfect in red-zone scoring in 2014. The Mean Green is 13-for-13 in the red-zone this season, coming away with 11 touchdowns and two field goals.
  4. UNT 42 Hoosier Daddy? 28
  5. Losing Cody Latimer was huge. He is a great athlete and receiver. And etc etc This and the loss of Kofi Hughes has lowered Sudfeld's play. As you can see, your accuracy doesn't have to be very good when you're throwing to this guy.
  6. Well yeah. Being one of the best rushers in the nation, it was an intentional understatement.
  7. We have the means to win (or should I say the williams to win...). On offense, it's their running game that is worth a damn. And we have shown we can defend the run against the Longhorns' duo and against La Tech (the two better teams). If we can keep them at 200 yards rushing it's a win. Longhorns put up 163 rushing yards on us, followed by 98 from La Tech. We are pretty stingy on that front. DW had a healthy 13 ypa against Nicholls, which bodes well against Indiana's soft secondary. On paper we have a shot.
  8. So fancy. Go Colts.
  9. 29 pass attempts? That would be sweetness (and no one use that as a nickname please), but does not elicit confidence in our run game.
  10. Yeah folks, they're not that great defensively through the air. Their ground game is decent, but their passing game is meh. They don't have Kofi Hughes anymore. Cody Latimer is on my taxi squad and will not be on the field. If we throttle the run game, we got this.
  11. In the context of this drill, Means seems to have the best technique. And we got a lefty in #11! Who happens to also show decent technique. DW needs to be more consistent in keeping that ball a little higher like Means does.
  12. That's disappointing. Maybe I am grading too harshly, but there doesn't seem to be much beyond Harris and Kidsy, with flashes from Smiley. Terrell is a great run blocker... I would like an El Guapo sized stable of WRs.
  13. One thing I did notice is speed, or lack thereof. Kidsy showed this, but Harris got caught real quick when he had a huge gainer. Was he injured? Marcus Smith is a long-strider, so I couldn't tell if he's got deceptive speed. Saw Goree dressed on the sideline. What are his wheels like?
  14. The arguments against the convention center seem to revolve around the idea that UNT would be the sole users. In terms of conferences, UNT either hosts as a site for other recurring conferences, or runs its own conferences, so it isn't always the same conferences every year. These conferences bring folks from around the world, and they always look for a place to eat (where local students and professors mostly send them to the square or nearby Thai cuisine). I am speaking from experience and not conjecture. I have no idea what conferences the region would be bringing in, but I am sure all parties involved would be recruiting heavily. Although total enrollment has increased by a couple thousand, retention has increased. This puts us at around number 4 I think. Not sure why this is a point being made here in a negative context. We're still a big school and less people are transferring away. That hotel is going to have to compete just like any other hotel, but if the convention center is filling up with conferences several times a year, it shouldn't be an issue (people are hired specifically to recruit conferences and events). Also, Texas Motor Speedway will provide a boost every once in a while. I'll end my rant with a loaded question, why don't you want growth for Denton?
  15. So you're saying there's a chance...
  16. With great anticipation, elite delivery, great accuracy, scrambling... DW has good delivery and a strong arm. Let's hope his accuracy is good too. I think we all recall the play where he threw across the field to Caldwell. That was great anticipation and delivery of the ball between the CB and the safety. The other notable ones were to open receivers. The one thing that I question is the speed of decision making. Against 1st team defenses he'll have to be a little quicker. But that just takes getting some playing time in.
  17. Hate to add to all this nay saying, but the weather is not looking too good.
  18. Means and McNulty are quite mobile. Chumley's got time to develop.
  19. Our special teams continues to do well covering, it's the punt return team that has been lacking (maybe I was spoiled on Brelan). Our run D is still solid, allowing Dixon only 75 yds. I have seen our receivers open many a time, but when it's close to the line of scrimmage, they aren't strong/physical enough. That's another reason why Greer was holding on so long (when 1 or 2 receivers weren't wide open). Our receivers need to get stronger, or better at beating off DB's or LB's within 5 yards of the LOS. This is my first season on these boards, do we never have any receiver controversy talk?
  20. Although I do agree that DW is our best option going forward, we do need to pump the brakes. I can easily see that he is worlds ahead of Greer in delivery, some mechanics, athleticism, and grit, but I feel like many of you look at him like this against opponents: I want to watch him play, but the word of warning is not to jump off the bandwagon if he regresses every once in a while, or he doesn't live up to lofty 189 QBR in garbage time play. I'm all in.
  21. 23-13 UNT Almost feel like I'm pulling a reverse price is right on untjim, but I'm banking on those field goals, 1 rush td, 1 pass td.
  22. I was going to say this. The only time I saw a pretty ball was the TD to Terrell that was called back. Some were dead duck, knuckle balls. We have a small sample size, but he just needs more confidence, poise.
  23. Ha! Love it, this is going up on the twitter...
  24. "maybe too conservative" eh? Greer with, dare I say, 15 pass attempts?
