I'm thinking this 2-deep will look a little different by the time Spring is over.
-
Looks like Smiley, Harris, Kidsy at X, Y, Z and rotating Goree at Y (to start the spring off) and Rutherford competing at X. Khaaaaaan is competing for the flanker spot. Goree is going to create all kinds of mismatches at the slot position, but I think it's more of an indication that Rutherford and Goree will still have minimal impact this year (a la Kidsy and Smiley last year).

That's 1,523 lbs or 304.6 lbs per #1 lineman.

updated to show OL and RB

Help me promote Mean Green game days as a destination event
Aldo replied to tcat75's topic in Mean Green Football
Hey all the street signs are green... As far as local support goes, yeah the bars downtown are always packed with people when the games are broadcast. Post-home game, good luck finding a place to park downtown. -
Didn't realize he had such fast times in HS.

oh hey it worked! Notice Bean at middle

I'd say a big issue with Buyers that I saw was missed tackles.

I agreed with you before I reviewed opponent video (which would highlight those big plays), so I was a little surprised. Yeah he did get beat a few times (and James Jones), but most of the time it was the LB in coverage or the safeties (not sure if the two are related). Which caused all the other guys to scramble. Watching the lbs and safeties in broken coverage I was like

If North Texas Wins Less Then 5 Games Should...
Aldo replied to Dr. Seuss's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah I was wondering, if McCarney were to be fired after the 2015 season ended (which realistically will not happen, and disagree this is the issue), how many years of salary will he be owed? Same q for the AD? What would a "better" coach have done with what we had? Or AD (chicken/egg situation)? Also, who would pay that "better" coach or AD? Just take a look at those salaries, especially positional coaches and assistants. Will UNT pay more in the future to go after more renowned coaches? Just win baby. -
A look at North Texas key position battles this spring
Aldo replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the most exciting positional battle for me will be WR. Talented core group that will be pushing each other. There are many different XYZ formations you can throw out there with Harris, Kidsy, Smiley, combined with Goree, Thompson, Rutherford. Follow that up with the defensive secondary. RB group usually follows the veteran backed up by the up-and-comer formula. The more concerning for me? QB always, but for the sake of something else, probably LBs and OL. Lots of unknowns. D-line is relatively the least of my concerns.- 80 replies

What I meant was, Evans wasn't always the one doing the playmaking/bailing him out. Manziel would place it in spots only Evans could get to it. And Evans is a humongous target. The only QB better (on my list) in that draft class was Teddy Bridgewater, then Manziel, then Bortles. Which brings us back to D Smith... (see what I did there?)- 80 replies

And that's why I think Chumley needs at least a couple years before he's fully ready as a QB. It's not as much his throwing motion, though, it's his footwork. 250lb bodies flying at you? Your feet better be in the right place to either pass, slide, move up, or get outta there. He won't have all day to throw back there. As a receiver? Kid can ball, throw him out there as soon as he's able. As far as confidence goes, totally agree. I would compare the good Dajon (UNT highlights vs Indiana) vs bad Dajon (UAB highlights). In one you have a calm and poised qb setting his feet, facing the receiver, accurate passes (still some hesitations evident). In the other, you see hesitation, not facing the receiver, ball around his hips, not planting etc.- 80 replies

A player's mechanics tell you how much coaching they will need. Without proper development of mechanics and reading the field, vis-a-vis proper coaching, you get: 2014 Williams 2014 Greer 2014 McNulty It's those little things that cause accuracy problems, leading to underthrown or overthrown balls. Footwork leads to better planting, which allow for more air and control on the balls, which leads to better accuracy, which leads to receivers having better chances at those balls. Throwing motion also affect strength, and accuracy, and throwing above 6-3 to 6-5 linemen. Or now, 6-9. As Williams proved (unfortunately), you can't just throw out a talented player with little development out on the field. It takes time. Manziel is way more talented than those three I mentioned. Additionally, he has always been hyperaccurate, and read the (college) field well. It wasn't always Evans. So really, you're asking for better talent to come in to reduce development time and efforts. Well...- 80 replies

Yeah Grimm has this odd 3/4 release, and that weird jumpshot pass (Cutler comment), but his accuracy is not too shabby (when he sits still). There's dark horse talent there that needs refinement. 2013 Chumley has a lot more work to do in terms of passing fundamentals when compared to McNulty, Smith, Means, Williams, Greer, and Grimm. If he stays at QB, it may be a couple years.- 80 replies

He has a point though. In the future, it'll be between Means and Grimm if Williams doesn't pan out, imo. Very similar player types with similar playing styles. It'll depend on who's more coachable to work on some of their fundamentals (throwing motion, footwork, decision-making).- 80 replies

You should probably steer clear from forums titled "rivalry" if you want to get a good opinion of the fan base...
-
And y'all act like we're the only one's in this rivalry... See? Organic.
-
23-23 record is something to hang anyone's hat on
-
I think you're confusing "wanting to beat them at everything and rubbing in their faces" with "compare on the same level". Edit: "wanting to beat them at everything because we're better and rubbing it in their faces"
-
Well... But seriously, they're here now. Nothing we can do about that except beat them. And we are more upset at ourselves for not finishing those games. I think that feeds into it.
-
You're going to have to change your "I don't want to associate with" argument against UTSA because...well, it screams rivalry.
-
And I can't think of anything more organic than that, Ryan.
