Why Andrew McNulty could be North Texas' most important player
Aldo replied to GOMG2013's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the 2013 defense was one of those decade teams, or even more. We just don't have the talent on the roster to garner a top 25 vote again (which I attribute to that 2013 defense) in 2015. McNulty can be solid at times, and can put the ball in some highlight-worthy windows. He just doesn't always win those windows. He also has lapses of vision. But that kid is tough. He doesn't necessarily have a pop-gun arm, but he sometimes does have trouble delivering a clean ball downfield. I have no problem dinking and dunking as long as our receivers stop dropping balls, and McNulty doesn't get too aggressive (that's right I said too aggressive) trying to zip the ball in places he shouldn't. The UTSA game really sums up 2014 McNulty's strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully he's working hard to address those weaknesses. -
I don't get this cherry picking. Of course the quality of opponent matters, but to just remove it from the win column is misguided. Weight it!
-
But anyway, all the "big" schools do it, so we are all on an even playing field. If you want to adjust/weight the wins, be my guest. But it'll be pretty similar with our win against Indiana and some wins against folks that were more highly ranked than us at the time. Which was most people.

16-7.

Probably because he was a Reagan Raider. BOOM! (I graduated from rival Austin LBJ)
-
No kidding.
-
It's probably for the kids that follow him on Twitter, fellas. Jeebus. Could really use a helmet thread right about now.
-
(The Texas film too) It's a good point, but if they line up inside (and they're split wide), you've got to be able to cover the 9 route too.

Let's be clear here, no one's saying he "sucks". He does put in a lot of work for us. I'm not going to stop reading his blog. The recruiting series is awesome. It's just the times he addresses the fanbase directly can sometimes be construed as pedantic, and several comments in this specific article was a collection of one-too-many.

His Pinterest page, tho...

Thought we already did. That being said, matte helmets all the way.
-
That's fair and it sucks he has to deal with that, but that's not what we're getting butt hurt about here.

I would take it in stride if what he wrote was a post was on gmg.com. In fact as I was reading it, it sounded like a forum post. It's another thing to misrepresent people's observations and shut em down (indirectly) and publish on the DRC (re: Shanbour and RBs). But I guess being a "blog" kind of makes it more acceptable since it makes room for opinion vs an article in the paper? But just being able to discuss things would be fun. I love debating (and backing it up, of course). Otherwise, what's the point of using social media to let readers know about your thoughts if you won't hear theirs? I don't think what he said was inaccurate tbh, but the material could have been researched more accurately. And it's obvious he skims through this so I mean it with all due respect. I check his blog every morning, and it would be fun to talk with an insider about what a lot of people don't want to talk about in the region: North Texas football.

Lance Dunbar to return to the Cowboys in 2015

Or alternatively, Abdullah in the second, or Ajayi in the 3rd. But these two are not day 1 starters. -

Ryan Williams, Randle, and McFadden (as lead backs) aren't too exciting. Seeing someone like Gurley go to them at the end of round 1 would be exciting. -
Vito. And all this to say, no knock to meangreennation.com, I enjoy reading that stuff.
-
So it would all be new material to me.
-
After saying all that, I guess Skip Bayless is a good comparison.

His article didn't really contain controversy. It was more insulting to basketball, softball, spring soccer, and any other spring practices/sports. Then he goes on to cherry pick comments and speak condescendingly. I started reading his blog for his news reports, but he doesn't provide much new content. Or analysis. There's sooooo many things to talk about spring football, unit by unit (LBs, safeties, corners, etc etc). I'd rather just wait on Dave Campbell stuff or sbnation stuff. The amount of rehashing is just tiresome, I need something more engaging to read now.

If I knew how to make gifs out of youtube videos (and some time), I think I could give a few examples. But, oh hey I think my phong is ringing...

I think everyone gets it. Honestly, though, the D-Line contributions where not bad, and the defense as a whole was not bad in CUSA. And performance against CUSA is all that matters to me tbh. D lineman accounted for forced fumbles, QB hurries, sacks, TFLs, some more sacks, PBUs, passes defended, INTs. Could they have been better in passing/attacking situations? Sure, why not. But what we have seen is how bad LB and S pass coverage/assignment was, leading to high passing percentages and conversions. I think better personnel this offseason, plus a year under McClain's belt should *theoretically* help.
