I think I only saw two plays in the 4th where our CBs were pressing. And we were 4 TDs down. Or maybe 3 TDs down. The CB on the near side was pretty excited tho, clapping and rubbing his hands together when he lined up in front of the receiver. Dug it. The reason I say press is bc of Iowa's short passing game tendencies. I don't think we need to press every down, but more than once or twice in a game would be peachy. It may also result in less plays where the CB and S look at each other wondering who is supposed to pursue the receiver running the post route.

This one is from www.sports-ratings.com which is pretty solid imo

Army aside...Really? Cincy and UConn? We talkin bball?

Whoever is the quarterback this Saturday will have [to have] quite a bit of yards. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we get more than a combined 100 yards rushing. We were getting close to seeing it this past weekend. Although it was just Greer. Maybe he'll get a series or two, then trade off and DaSmith gets a series or two.

I haven't had the chance to view any Iowa film (the youtube ain't working here), but I've glanced at some stats. (for anyone who likes sports twitter, give @hawkeyegamefilm a follow). Seems like their offense (although better than ours statistically) is still average. They love playing the short passing game and the screen game, but they're really good at it. CJ Beathard is accurate and has a strong arm for those short passes. They're also really good at selling the PA. Their defense allows a high percentage of 3rd down conversions, and our offense is pretty good at converting third downs. The opposite holds true as well (Iowa offense vs UNT def). I hope to see more aggressive press coverage, and keeping the play in front. I am le tired of this bend don't break. The linebackers will have a busy day again. I expect Loving/MSmith to have another big day. Hope to see more of Dre Bradley. Passing game will have to take this one, our rushing game will not go well. Iowa will get a few huge runs, and I think North Texas will have a couple big pass plays. We lose the time of possession game again, as Iowa runs all over us. Although I don't expect to win, I don't think Iowa covers the spread.

GMG Crowdfund, Round 2: A Delicious Proposal
Aldo replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in Mean Green Football
You obviously ignore all the Jimmy Johns franchises being built throughout the city. If people didn't go there, why would they build more? I invite you to have a club sandwich. Come by anytime and take a look at the lengthy menu, or did you lose that too?? -
Dan McCarney returns to Kinnick Stadium as the underdog

I'm not sure he understood his own reference... -
I won't argue the first part, but when Weeden was there in 2013 (they finished 4-12), four pro-bowlers on offense: Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, Alex Mack (C), and Joe Thomas (LT). If we're doing hypotheticals then heck yeah Manziel>Tebow. Don't sleep on the Johnny Football - downfield accuracy is something Weeden don't got. Whoops forgot.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot this one. Two weeks in a row I've been super impressed with his speed and ability. That pizza place, man.
-
My favorite so far. But I did enjoy us going downfield more often than we did passing behind the LOS. Also, enjoyed that same McNulty to Loving play in the slot 3 times in a row. If it ain't broke... Soon they'll have us chanting "McLoving!"

And we're off! Money is good.

I know most us are dealing with the apocalyptic situation our program is in. All that is fair. This thread, though, is dedicated to any positives we can spin glean heading into the Iowa game. Lot's of youngens (Mac mentioned 20 F/RSF getting playing time) getting experience for the future of the programCarlos Harris is on pace for a monster yearChris Loving is on a great yardage pace; Smith will get his. This bodes well for the receiving game (no, seriously)Jimmerson is showing glimpses of Jimmerson of old. 6 ypc. On pace for decent production with his current usageWilly Ivery looked ran well, and surprised me in between the tackles. When given the chance, Thad Thompson moved those chains (I'm still high on him as a possession guy)McClain and Bean are tackling machinesOh are we getting Wilson back?Anyone? Anyone?

RGIII has quite a contract. Without Dez and any semblance of a run game, Weeden's going to be the end of the Cowboys' season. You need a better QB. Remind me how he managed in Cleveland with an elite o-line, an elite receiver in Josh Gordon, a pro bowl TE in Jordan Cameron, and iirc a decent defense? Better hope Christine Michael delivers. (fantasy football advice: sell sell sell).

not that it matters but Shanbour was the guy catching for Greer.
-
Yeah when he heard it at the end of the half, it was their second attempt. After the incomplete pass when we thought it was the end of the half I looked over at boomer and it just went fwomp and a little smoke came out. It worked the second time we ended the half.
-
On the bright side, we might see some young players or backup players like DaSmith after the game gets out of hand. Not going to be pretty.
-
If you're not a Tebow fan, then there's Vick. Maybe Shaun Hill's available. Colt McCoy? Or maybe see what Showers can do for you.
-
I'm no cowboys fan, but give me Tebow over Weeden.

You mean this Greer? http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/9/11/6138519/north-texas-on-quest-for-single-digit-yardage-vs-louisiana-tech

I think McCarney mentioned something about Ivery had a bad ankle? Or was that a reference to last year?
-
it was in his hands. That one was on Harris. The throw was fine. Look, I'm okay with a change at QB, but this game was not lost by McNulty whatsoever. Turnovers. Turnovers turnovers turnovers. Lack of defense. This one's on the whole team.
-
on the flip side... 24 points scored in 18 minutes #amirite
-
plus a muffed punt, fumble, a pass that Harris should have caught. All drive and momentum killers. There aren't many QBs out there that can dig us out a 4 touchdown hole. Turnovers, man.
