The fan effect of late season paycheck games in a bad season
Aldo replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think scheduling Texas, Georgia, A&M, Florida, Tennessee etc etc away is balanced out through scheduling Idaho, Nicholls, Bethune Cookman, etc etc at home. Eliminating the paycheck game eliminates us from scheduling the FCS home game, which leaves us to scheduling other OOC mid-majors. (Although we don't have to eliminate the paycheck games in order to schedule the OOC mid-major games). But we won't get an opportunity until the 2020s, if I'm not mistaken. -

I understand what you're saying about his specific suggestion and it's an approach I disagree with (see my post at the bottom of page 1) but I am commenting on his general statement of: It's a history of apathy among university administrators that has trickled down to the fans. We are where we are because no one cares enough. We are a minority of disgruntled fans because we are within a minority of people that care. That's why RV gets a bonus. That's why Lee Jackson gets a bonus. I want a bonus too, but I can't find 80 million dollars to lose. (did I throw enough topics together?) -

Were all those QB offers, or do those also include TE offers? -

I think what Harry is getting at is that RV has been getting away with scheduling body bag games to fund the department. Why hasn't anyone above him (President, BOR) stepped in and said, enough is enough, raise money like you're being paid to do? The disinterest by the administration over the athletic program is another nail in our current coffin. -
But who would that be? (not a rhetorical question, actually asking who fits that description).

I can see increasing the student fee to the maximum allowable before a vote, but we are misplacing the inability to fundraise (through MGC membership, season ticket and general ticket sales) onto the students. We're talking about raising an extra 750K-1.5 million per year. That's the athletic department's responsibility, and wouldn't even be tops in CUSA. *But* it would entail doubling what they are fundraising. -
What I'd Like To See During The Tennessee Blowout
Aldo replied to HarringtonFishSmeller's topic in Mean Green Football
As long as weather permits, DaMarcus has a shot at a decent game in the air, and Smith and Wilson could have a decent game on the ground. Not saying we'll stay in this game, but it's just another good practice in full pads at full speed. I could see giving Means a shot the last one or two drives of the game as he brings many of the same elements that Smith does (limited in the pass game, but has a solid ground game), but Smith needs as many snaps as possible going forward to 2016. He may have accuracy issues right now, but the only way to work on that is through more snaps [and better coaching]. Additionally, as shaky as a passer he's looked, as a player he brings in more yards per play and more scoring. -
Probably gonna need a head start with Thanksgiving.

DRC Monday column: UNT isn't a quick fix situation for new coach
Aldo replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I think we will be pleasantly surprised next year by our pass defense as they get a little more experienced. The new regime will have to focus on recruiting QB, o-line, and front 7, imo. -
Yeah when I read the reports, totally felt like he's the next UNT HOF coach. His team needs to focus.

I totally understand where you're coming from- and I agree with many of your points - but you've got two crowds to deal with. Those that are both aware and unwilling, and those that are completely unaware. Those that are aware (about MGC) are a very small contingency of alumni and fans from the overall student and alumni base. Those that are unwilling or holding out is an even smaller crowd, and to each their own. But the target really should be recent grads and creating a young new base moving forward. I've only received 1-2 calls from the Athletics office (specifically Coleman) since I graduated in '08, and I always call in first or e-mail to reserve my season tickets. They were doing a fundraiser, and you got points for donating? I was on the phone calling them. That's not to say I'm doing their job, but that they have my info, and I'm not being reached. What about those that hesitate to call, or have no idea MGC is a thing? Does that mean they're not reaching out to inform the uninformed recent grad base? That's my fear. I really hope I hear differently (through facts/numbers).

Aw he's not thousands of years old ;-)

And I'm saying this could easily be taken care of through a PM. Speaking in generalities.

Although a fair question to an admin, I don't think this is a fair thread to single out a member of the board

How Much Time Do We Give The New Coach To Get Us Bowl Eligible
Aldo replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
But, unrealized potential... -
Like I have mentioned before, I love the facilities, and am grateful for them and the people that effectively paid for it. But there is only so much you can build. He's made his mark through creating an infrastructure that was non-existent. Gives him UNT AD HOF eligibility right off the bat, because before there was nothing. Now we need someone to step up and fill that infrastructure with the right personnel and winning revenue teams. I never see any of the supporters comment or at least tell us how they feel about MGC target goals (revenue) vis a vis getting the X-billion alum living in DFW to literally buy into athleticsSeason ticket sales (revenue)General ticket sales (revenue)Entertainment events (revenue)Selling out the stadium (revenue)Being the worst fundraising school in CUSA in 2013 (revenue, although I'm cheating here as this includes season ticket sales mention previously)Poor Big 3 coaching record (revenue), which now includes:Bottom-level FBS teamRanked 250+ men's bball teamBottom-level women's bball teamThe conversation is always turned back to infrastructure, and the money garnered for infrastructure, and told to enjoy what we have. Which is fair to an extent. But we are a big school now, and we deserve more accountability. People are paying attention now. Put another way, Villareal put the big boy pants on us. Now that we realize what our potential could be at North Texas, we need someone that can take us the rest of the way.
