  1. @Cerebus what's being pointed out here is also my criticism. There are select programs that are recognized nationally/globally. As a whole it feels as the focus has been trying to increase enrollment (top 20% in certain ISDs) and pumping them out quickly (15 credit hours/semester=discount). And that we're the best university to do that inexpensively. Is that the best we can tout? But as a research university overall, there hasn't been enough leadership at the very top to give direction. In federal research $, we're not top 200. In total research expenditures, we're not top 200. In endowment we're not top 200. In annual giving we're 196 (2012). We've got all these students and infrastructure in place, just need leaders from administrators to faculty and staff (in the different institutes) to make a push.
  2. Being fairly mediocre school? Music school and Carnegie accolades aside, if you look us up on US N&WR, Forbes, etc. we are ranked very, very, very low.
  3. Sorry I mean "certain boosters". I'm more interested in positional drills and scrimmages.
  4. Heads explode in 3...2...
  5. Have you? I don't think closing practices is a big deal. Giving exceptions to VIP is le dumb. I hope they Persicope it since I'll be at work anyway. Hope they open up scrimmages. Don't forget @UNTGridiron
  6. I guess I'll go with the G-rated version, but
  7. I am certain I heard it or read it too. It was during some press conference early on iirc.
  8. Don't think anyone has said he has lost his skill. He just hasn't had the chance to show what he can do in real games. So we don't know how those skills that gave him a Bama scholarship will translate here, as there's not really a point of reference. Best we can do is conjecture, which is a lot more fun than saying I dunno or temper your expectations.
  9. Well, as long as it's for thousands less...
  10. I think with our current size we'd go with 4 man front, but I'm no defensive guy
  11. 3 coaches? Ok maybe a little over 12 months. What a trifecta it would be! Jalie, Seth, and ____. But alas we'll have to wait.
  12. This is a family show! With the Smith departure, I think WR and QB ranks could be swapped. Hope Morris can show that he can deal with CUSA level play. Very curious on what Shanbour can show, as a runner and as the most accurate of the backups (and dare I say Morris?).
  13. First off, I don't want to kill the athletic fee. Overreaction. Students shouldn't suffer over something they aren't in charge of. That's like saying, cut all work study scholarships due to UNT's mismanagement of $70-80 million. Hedlund was hired back in, 1990 as men's assistant and 1995 as women's first head coach. I'll give credit where credit is due. Oh and currently football and basketball aren't sexy
  14. this guy is fun to watch
  15. Prediction: Benford and RV ride off into the sunset next year, talks of RV being "best AD we ever done had cause he built all these things that anyone else would have built because they didn't exist yet" begin. And how much impact will people quitting on the Mean Green Club is going to have? There's only a few hundred low level donors. RV completely depends on his big donors to keep the program, and his "legacy" afloat.
  16. *Chandler-est of voices* Have you BEEN on this board?
  17. That 95 Bronco only has 40K miles on it? My 90 F150 had over 400K before I gave it up
  18. You gotta spend money to m- scratch that You gotta be P5 to make money.
  19. Shanbour has had a lot of love from the gmg.com board over the past couple years, though I'll admit it may be the intrigue that we don't know anything about him and haven't had the chance to be disappointed. And then Vito comes along and squashes our dreams So if he at least gets a scholarship, I'd be ok with that.
  20. I would prefer he sit at least 2 years and learn, but that would suggest a pattern of success at recruiting QBs.
  21. But what I've been arguing in a couple threads is that his size shouldn't keep him from seeing the field if he is the best option available.
  22. Sorry wrong lingo. But Riley's work, however slight it may seem, has been enough to spatter him around in our record books, even though the team faced 29 sacks in 2010. Back to the point, if the kid can play, let him, and he'll be able to put up stats. It won't be hard to fill up the record book as a passer at UNT. Like I mentioned (I think in another thread), how reasonable is it to expect him to put on 10 or 15lbs? Kid knows he's smaller. What we should be arguing about, is *if* Fine becomes the starter, whether there is enough depth behind him.
  23. How much more weight is he really going to gain? If we were afraid of that, then we shouldn't have signed him in the first place. There are ways to protect the QB from getting hit.
