  1. If we get more than 3,000 SMU fans it will throw a huge monkey wrench in my opinion. So I will only predict the number of UNT fans at 17,500k. I think 3,000 SMU fans will show up for a grand total of 20,500.
  2. RV continued employment at UNT is elephant in the room pooping on all positive vibes. I think the few who voice continue support for RV or patience can't separate loyalty to the program from supporting the person leading it. Every leader deserves some leeway and time to get thing moving in the right direction. He has exhausted all that leeway and time in the opinion of most. So not only are people bitter about losing they are bitter about elephant pooping on them and telling them the stench of the room will subside soon. So this elephant has been pooping in this room(program) for at least half of the last 15 years. You know what you have after 7 years of an elephant pooping in a room? A room full of shit.
  3. I agree that team jumping up to FBS is over for a while now with these new rules. However this does not account for any major shake up in TV money landscape. The biggest domino that could change everything in a heartbeat is the Longhorn Network going belly up. Also there is the possibility that UT football could go independent. If they start winning big again that is a distinct possibility. They could play a SEC school, Big 10 a PAC 12 school, and an ACC school every year. Then they could fit Texas A&M and we know they are committed to continuing Texas vs OU rivalry. A schedule like that maintains their national brand and makes the Longhorn network a slightly more attractive buy outside the Big 12 region.
  4. This is backwards process no matter where it is. But since the donors and administration stubbornly keep RV employed here I don't know what could have been done. Could they they have given Chico a low cost 3 year contract and tied their fates together? But at this point why should we care. We know they did backwards at UNT so let us just hope they successful despite that.
  5. I agree with the statement but it only covers Colorado since the Big 12 was formed. They have 26 conference titles, 28 bowl appearances and a national championship. So that resume does say "perennial" bottom feeder.
  6. Good podcast guys, when is the next one after the spring game?
  7. Not really "Mitchell did miss a lot of time in his senior year due to an Achilles tear, which likely serves as an explanation for why Ole Miss' interest cooled off." And achilles tear for a running back is worse than a ligament tear.
  8. They both belong in the MWC. Maybe CUSA and MWC can make a trade. Idaho should be in the MWC come hell or high water. The Boise State is keeping them out like SMU kept us of CUSA with them. So now looking at the south-eastern most schools in MWC you have both New Mexico Schools, Air Force, Colorado State, and Wyoming. I would like to give them UTEP and get one the 4 schools I just mentioned. But what I would love most is a new conference that stretches from Southern Miss to Wyoming with a lot of Texas schools. North Texas New Mexico St New Mexico Colorado State La Tech Southern Miss UTEP Rice UTSA Wyoming Air Force Tulsa or Tulane or Texas State to make 12 team and 2 divisions
  9. We all know that maximizing everything rarely happens because the other teams are trying maximize everything they have too. Sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way. So I don't want to see Seth and the staff dogged on GMG cause they end up with 4 wins instead of 6. I get freaking tired of people making excuses for RV preaching patience but don't give that same leeway to coaches here. RV has had 15 years of subpar work and a few on GMG.com are preaching patience. I tap the breaks on the idea that instance success and bowl eligibility is really unlikely and I get more dislikes than like. WTH?
  10. So what you are saying is that the 17 and BOR really don't care about winning? Oh, that is what I thought. Well glad someone finally figured that out after 5 years of season tickets. Now I can stop wasting my money just hoping for a couple .500 seasons back to back.
  11. And I don't know what a FBS National Championship is out of the question at UNT? Come on really dude? You are setting yourself up for massive disappointment. Also it is unfair to Seth in first year. I can see it now they get real close in a few games they lose they could have gotten them to 6-6 and you take issue with the coach because the wins were "right there in reach". Getting 6 wins will be maximizing everything this team currently has. Hell too much success too soon may even be a slightly negative thing here. Because the coach might not stay around long enough to solidify the processes and mindset that lead to winning.
  12. THIS!!!! RV is symbolic of a much bigger issue with UNT Athletics. If isn't going to be a primary window to the university then stop throwing money at and asking alumni to do likewise. Getting beaten on the field by UTSA, UTEP, Southern Miss and UTEP regularly is worse for your schools brand than dropping down to FCS and getting thumbed by P5 Texas schools. At least then potential students and recruits don't expect your team to look like it belongs on the field with TAMU or UT Austin. That is why they won't see a single dime of donation money to me until RV is gone. He is symbolic of the "we don't give crap athletics" mentality. The new president talks about it but if I were him, I would shut up about it. Because the only action that match his rhetoric is firing RV. So either he can't fire him because of the BOR directive or he really doesn't care. Either way he should shut all the talk about winning down because it makes him look like a phony.
  13. According to the Mean Green Sport Bio RV arrive in April 2001. Most of the players and coaches responsible for that run were already in place when RV arrived. Once the recruiting class that did not have the "benefit of RV's charismatic" leadership were all gone the team tanked. So analyze it anyway you want it. Give his credit for not wrecking it immediately and letting it tank. DD gets a huge portion of the blame. But seeing all the garbage since he left it is hard to blame him for having a pissy attitude working under RV.
  14. A 2 year stretch out of 200 years of football history between the 2 schools? Really? A coach make a huge difference but even Nick Saban isn't transforming UNT as top dog in the state of Texas. Yes a great coach and some stability programs like Baylor, Texas Tech, and TCU can still the spotlight from Texas marginally for a brief moment but all those team have SWC history. They also have a long standing tradition of the alumni stepping up to plate and donating at big levels. You don't Trump all that by running through a G5 conference (with no other Texas schools) a couple times undefeated.
  15. The most blatant lie in the that "bio/resume" was led us to the top of the Sun Belt. Umm, I think Darell Dickey was in the middle of his undefeated run in the Sun Belt when RV arrive. Using that logic to create a bio/resume Barry Switzer can claim he put the finishing touches on the Dallas Cowboys early 90s dynasty. SMH
  16. Not really, because it more than just winning seasons. It is just as important who you beat and when you beat them. The undefeated 3 run through the Sun Belt materialized in nothing. UNT still never record a sellout or even within 2,000 of a sellout. UNT has to have a couple of winning seasons and beat a traditional power when they are having a decent but subpar for their expectations year. Preferably a bowl game against one of those traditional powers. And the closer to the state of Texas the school is the better. I don't think TAMU or UT would ever accept a bowl game match up with us so I have a list of potentials bowl game victories that might get UNT over the hump. 1. Oklahoma 2. LSU 3. Arkansas 4. Nebraska 5. USC Very unlikely we get matched up with any of those teams in a bowl game unless we end of up as the highest rated G5 conference winner undefeated or with one close loss in a "money" game. So even if we won CUSA 3 years straight with 9-3 records I would be surprised if we got a sellout without beating a traditional power in a bowl game or a "money" game during the season.
  17. The OOC that should be a lock is Bethune Cookman. Remember Alec Morris can only throw the ball accurately. He can't play defense, play special teams, make receivers run the right routes or catch the ball. I will be very surprised if UNT beats Army. SMU looks like the only game that can go either way. CUSA: I only see 2 wins max. We don't see the first "winnable" CUSA game till Oct 29 at Rice. All the rest of the winnable CUSA games come late in the year. Also of those winnable games UTEP and UTSA are on the road. Please correct me if I am wrong but I don't believe we have won in San Antonio yet. I see 4 games for this team maximum. But anything is possible but it going to take a lot of breaks for this team to get to 5 or 6 wins. And if we don't beat SMU 6 wins are virtually impossible.
  18. I think NT on the helmet is great. The swooping eagle is nice but I prefer that on the sleeves of the jerseys and the hips of the pants. Let us just keep the shade of green consistent.
  19. I wonder how much Seth read on GMG.com before taking the job? I hope he did because it means he has extreme confidence in his coaching ability and he teams. Does he know how pathetic the Athletic Department is? I would like to look at the bright side and say that he has and that he views UNT as more than a mere quick stepping stone to better things. On the dark side if he is successful it might keep RV around longer to run the other sports further into the ground. And I disagree that the article is depressing. it only depressing if make you realize that UNT's administration aren't committed to winning or even a creating football program that can break even financially. Sooner or later that will spell doom for UNT at the FBS level. And comparing Houston to UNT is not a meaningful comparison. Houston has invested more into athletics for over 50 years. What should depress UNT fans are programs that have started since 2000 kicking our asses on the field and court with regularity. The fact that Texas State and UTSA for all extensive purpose have programs just as good as our now should get the AD fired. I wish Houston continued success because they earned community support and their administration is committed to keeping it. It only here at UNT that the community get blame for not supporting a bad product. I wish we could set up a go-fund-me with a target goal of 500K only to be release to UNT Athletics if they fire RV. That is on $5 from 100,000 local UNT students, alumni, faculty and fans. The problem is that we don't have 100,000 people who care enough to let go of $5.
  20. Rudy stole my line so I had to come up with an idea. How about these bowls are qualifier bowls for FBS level. So if the combined winning percentage of the teams involved in a bowl game is below .600 (the bare minimum for an academic credit hour to count most places) the loser of the game has to drop down to FCS for 4-8 years minimum. I think this would be everyone's favorite NCAA FBS rule instantly. Since the NCAA "cares" so much about academics. Now there is a Boca Rotten Bowl or San Marcus Salsa Bowl I would watch. Like Highlanders; all the energy and passion but only with very dull and brittle swords.
  21. Good for him, I hope he gets an opportunity to excel and work his way back up the ranks.
  22. Agreed. But I always feel the shortest name possible to identify the university the better. For any program considering scheduling UTRGV the name would be a deterrent because it ready made for those "Sisters of the Poor" scheduling jokes.
  23. I see the appeal of adding BYU. But Cincinnati? I don't think the Big 12 would be in rush to add any team that is available to move from a G5 conference. If they were to add a school from the AAC I think they would want Navy or Temple to provide closer travel partners for West Virginia. Also those 2 schools provide access to a much larger markets than Cincy. But that is only if the Big 12 leadership is committed to keep West Virginia in the conference long term.
  24. Great clips but you know what all those great plays had in common? A clean pocket to throw from. How many clean pockets do you think this offensive line will produce this year? A system is only as good as the offensive line playing for it. The spread can help if you have great skill position players who can beat their match-ups at the line of scrimmage quickly. However late in seasons against good opponents that advantage usually evaporates Coaches catch on play zone and jumps the quarterback's read tendencies. So if you can't protect the quarterback long enough for him to get to his 2nd or 3rd read the "magic" the spread disappears quickly.
  25. Why not University of South Texas? Or just Rio Grand University?
