*****OFFICIAL UNT vs. FAU GAME THREAD*****
Mike Jackson replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
All these bootlegs make me think they don’t trust the OL to protect Fine. And I haven’t seen anything to make me criticize that tactic. Only on one play did he get really good protection. But the FAU defensive line took bad rush lanes. -

You hold and still get beat for TD? Really crappy play so far. -

Yes but inconsistent line play magnifies all the bad decisions -

In seasons 3 and 4 of SL upgrading the consistency of OL and DL is imperative to get where we would like this program to go. -
Odds Harrell and Filani leave for UTEP?
Mike Jackson replied to Andrew's topic in Mean Green Football
I would not recommend Harrell take the UTEP job unless his grand plan is to always stay in the Texas Tech recruiting region and eventually end up at Tech or one of the other P5 programs in Texas or Oklahoma. And of the G5 programs in Texas; Rice, UNT, Texas State, and UTEP are on the same recruiting level when you take coaching staff reputation off the table. Each present their own unique challenges. The histories, financial resources and locations of SMU and Houston just have them on a slightly higher level. -
Odds Harrell and Filani leave for UTEP?
Mike Jackson replied to Andrew's topic in Mean Green Football
GIve them reasonable raise with some more guaranteed money and add a sizable buyout clause for any G5 level job. Honestly if I were them I would value getting a little more buzz at UNT before leaving for MAC, Sun Belt, or CUSA programs. Those programs require you to work harder to get talent or come to the program with enough buzz to recruit to your reputation than the program’s. And I would only consider the top half of the programs in MWC and AAC at this point. And if I were an AD I would only be looking at coaches with 4 Consecutive years as a successful DC or OC at the same school to consider for a head coaching position. I want to see at least one class from recruiting to graduation to know how to run a program and manage student athletes. -
Biggest game in the SL era against FAU
Mike Jackson replied to p_phelps's topic in Mean Green Football
I reserve judgement cause I am assuming by big you mean progression toward Apogee being 90% full for at least conference games. When UNT had their Sun Belt undefeated run it didn’t get those apathetic students and alumni who watch others college football games to Fouts. We blamed schedule an unpregitous conference. We get Apogee, an experienced P5 level program head coach go to New Year’s Day Bowl Game in Dallas and win. Season opener next season you think 26,000 buts in seats, wrong! People expect the Mean Green to perform like UT or Texas A&M would if they were in this conference. But what makes those programs go is Fan Support. Maybe Seth should make a challenge for the rest of the season. Sellout 2 of the remaining home games and I guarantee I will be back with the best recruiting class UNT has seem since returning to FBS level play. -
Well that is disappointing. He torched us so bad I was expecting NFL scouts to kidnap him from the sidelines after being instructed to fake an injury to give them the opportunity to do so.

Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award "Great Eight" list
Mike Jackson replied to brooks91's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree it is just me dreaming getting my preference. With OCG and a cooperative rival you make a special schedule. Like I would like to see a Halloween week scheduling tradition with UTSA. The closer to Halloween the better and switched to Thursday or Friday night if that happens to be the night Halloween falls on that year. Maybe CUSA would allow up to work that out in conference but they have to consider the rest of the league before granting us that scheduling privilege. I think it is easier to tell a new conference that we have a traditional rival scheduled every Halloween week so we are not available for a conference game that week. -

I would love the western exposure. I think getting on late TV regularly for away games against San Diego State, Boise State and Hawaii could do wonders for the program. College football fans are so dense around here your program could win 10 games every year but if you aren’t on ESPN regularly you suck. That it why it better for totally irrelevant bottom feeder P5 programs to get destroyed regularly on TV than to drop to CUSA and others to actually have a shot at a winning record every year. However I would prefer to leave UTSA or Rice out of the MWC. Either one could be a special OCG rivalry like SMU. -
When in all white I think the green should be emphasized in a few spots. I just would like a smalll Eagle on the hip of the pants or a green stripe on the the side of the jerseies and pants like the Broncos orange stripe. Or maybe Mean and Green written down the side of each pant leg.

Official FAU Game Score Prediction Thread
Mike Jackson replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
Balanced attack prove to much from FAU to keep up with. Fine 29/38 for 289 yards 2 TD Wilson 23 carries for 168 yards 1 TD 3 receptions 38 yards Fine and the others combine for 129 yards rushing and another TD. Plus 3 FG Defense allows 98 yards rushing on 34 carries and 380 passing onside kick fails for FAU and Fine kneels 3 straight time to kill the clock UNT 37 FAU 29 -
Texas at San Antonio fans are moving toward the acceptance phase
Mike Jackson replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
My thoughts exactly. If anything the only reason to bring up old AD team members is to avoid repeating their mistakes. So unless they want to make sweater vest mandatory on Fridays for AD employees I think it a piontless discussion.- 74 replies

I am not interested in playing Army or any of our old Sun Belt foes in a Bowl. I would like to see a ranked MWC team or a AAC team.
-
Ridiculous? That is kind. This reeks of a dirty back room trick.
-
That is why I would prefer a home and home series with Hawaii and/or San Diego. Or maybe payday games against USC and UCLA 2 out of every 3 years. A definitive schedule gives at least a 6 month window to save for the trip. I think our program as whole needs more games against the PAC 12 and Mountain West. Hitting that 9:00 pm CST window on Saturday would probably be the best TV exposure for away games. Any of the teams out there only USC and Stanford consistently have teams that would embarrass decent Mean Green teams. All the rest of the games vs competition out West could and should look like the game against Iowa.
-
I think the HoD bowl would want a CUSA Champion Mean Green Team. Bowl committees pay attention to match up also. And anyone involved with this potential rematch wouldn’t be excited about it.
-
The simple fact is there isn’t enough of us. I can count the number of alumni from my class that has been to more than one game since graduation on one hand. But if this team runs the table and sells out the last home regular season game and the CUSA title game they could go anywhere.

Hayden Fry to be Honored at North Texas vs UTSA Game
Mike Jackson replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
Odus Mitchell lead all head coaches in wins at UNT with 122. With all due respect to the great Hayden Fry, Coach Mitchell built the foundation. Under his watch North Texas intergrated college football in Texas. So it not a stretch to say that with Coach Mitchell there may not be a North Texas Hayden Fry era to honor or a Mean Joe Green. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odus_Mitchell -
Good band performance. I was disappointed UTSA did not bring their band. It would have gave the game more energy.
-
Yep they are serious about their football and will be a problem in CUSA for years to come.
-
Here is a blast from the past to help us appreciate this offense’s. Now if we could bring that defense from that Sun Belt championship dynasty we could run away with CUSA. From 2002: I think you hit the nail on the head right there UNT96. Up until last year, I think even I would have a hard time opening up the passing game. Dropped balls were the norm. But we KNOW we can at least have an average passing game and up untill now it has been non-existant. And don't look for the Alabama game to be different. I think the first real test for this should be TCU. GMG! PASS THE BALL!! -————————————————- Now they are passing the ball and winning. By the way we could have 2 more seasons of Mason at his finest. Where will he finish on the all time UNT passing list.

It is just that simple. Simply too many students and local alumni to excuse the relatively poor attendance for a winning team. All it takes is about 25% student support and 20% local alumni support to pack Apogee. That is not overwhelming or even a particularly passionate support percentage especially in football crazy Texas. Hell between the 2 to 4 games in Denton every week 30,000 football fans attend games in Dental every Friday night.
