As someone who seriously considered Texas Tech and a beloved cousin who is an alumni I can say this without negative bias. Tech should not be on Seth’s radar. It is a second tier P5 program on par with TCU, Baylor, Miss State, Ole Miss, Minnesota and etc. And actually the stability that Gary Patterson provides makes TCU a slight cut above the others listed. Now if Seth wants to be the Gary Patterson of West Texas then he should consider it. But I don’t see him as a guy to hang around Lubbock for 10 years being really good. And essentially waiting for UT and OU both to have down years to squeeze into the college playoff. All the while dealing with deep pocket boosters who think they should be on par with UT. I think he would be looking for stability based on reasonable expectations from alumni. Tech is not that kind of place. I stay out of the SEC West till Saban is gone and the Big 10 East unless PSU or Michigan come open. Because if he sticks around two more years and win a couple of Conference titles and prestigious bowl games he would be considered for the absolute best jobs in FBS and Tech is not that.

Both, because during Hayden Fry's run their schedule were loaded with schools that still don't play FBS football today. Many of them dropped football altogether like UT Arlington. Fry had an admirable record but it wasn't like they beat a lot of well known well respected teams during that run. Here a list of Fry's Mean Green best victories at a passive glance (it not like I was around then) 1974 Record 2-7-2 Best Victory against San Diego State ranked 20 1975 Record 7-2 Best Victory against Tennessee 1976 Record 6-5 Best Victory...? Hard to pick La Tech, New Mexico St, (only 2 in FBS today) 1977 Record 9-2 Best Victory- take your pick from members of CUSA West Division today or Memphis 1978 Record 9-2 Best Victory Oklahoma State If you take out victories against non-FBS opponents today Fry's record look solid but not great. We just have never won a lot here regardless of FCS or FBS level.

This still boils down to money. Nebraska is not getting their full share of Big 10 revenue until next year or 2019 I believe. And yes UT took a lion share because they could and ESPN offered. The blame lays on all the schools that left the Big 12 and short sighted vision they had when they created the conference. Same scenario without the LHN. But ultimately it is the NCAA’s fault and no vision from the the member schools to do what is best for the athletes and all fans. These mega conferences are terrible for all the other sports. And NCAA Basketball with their conference tournaments and 68 team national title tournament make the regular season pointless. And if they expand the FBS playoffs to much further they will do the same to regular season college football. Then all but the biggest rivalry regular season games will generate interest. But they have killed so many of them already chasing money in conference realignment.

No complaints about Nike Gear and I seem to remember a time when our apparel choices wear quite limited (not much Nike stuff available at all). But now I am wondering with all the competition in the sports gear market if UNT could get a better exclusive deal with Adidas. The SOW makes we think of the Adidas Logo. Nike will alway have Oregon as their flag ship and we have too many similarities with Oregon when it comes to branding already. I think Michigan is Adidas’ flagship college program now but I would need to check. If Adidas could provide the same quality and give up more gear choice would you guys be cool with a switch?

I don’t understand the hate for Dickey. Without that run of SBC titles while was in college, I might be a uninterested alumni today. What had program won at the FBS/1A level before he got here? Some winning seasons 1973 and earlier? The parents of some of the kids he recruited were in elementary school when UNT had last had a sustained succeful Div 1A run.

Oh beating Nebraska would be so sweet. Their fans are just as entitled as Longhorns, and A&M fans. They all broke up a very entertaining conference and great rivalries with delusions of being Alabama. Problem is only one of them has the resources to do that since NCAA reforms in the 80s and 90s. I would love to kick the crap out of any of the 3. And if it were UT or A&M great smack talk opportunity: “ Hey if you can’t stand playing and losing to UNT maybe you should play your candy ass greedy in-state rival. Lol”

You mean there is no shot for us to see Conner Means throw a few passes in a blowout either? Lol
-
Yes back then we could have played TCU, Memphis, Cincinnati, Louisville and other more attractive programs to be matched up against than Troy and Arkansas State. I would like us to play a team we haven't be matched up against since 2008 if possible. And if you were a FCS program or nonexistent before 2005, I am not interested.

I am thinking a flying worm helmet with the flying worm shirt in stock in the team store.

I think everyone who voted for the Armed Forces Bowl views it the same way. No, we are thinking about what would be best for the program and not our "party" situations. The closer the date is to New Years Day the better. Also playing a Sun Belt team that fans are used to seeing us matched against does nothing for the program. Looking at the Sun Belt standings are you really want to play Arkansas State or Troy (1 & 2 respectively in Sun Belt)? If we liked playing them so much we could have stayed in the Sun Belt.

Yes they have suffered so long, never get P5 opponents to come to San Antonio, and they have to go home games in a horrible stadium in bad weather. lol Thank you for the best laugh I have had all weekend. LMAO

Fantasy matchup: 2013 UNT DT team vs 2017 Fine team
Mike Jackson replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It is all about if he best version of these two teams show up. I think the offenses great numbers and skill position talent are moot if Fine never gets a chance to survey the defense post snap. I don't think 2017 O-Line would be able to protect against 2013's D-LIne. Now if 2017's defense plays up to what I believe their potential is with a healthy English then we are looking at a toss up game with one big play making the difference. With 2013's special teams being better I would still lean toward them winning by a FG or less. -
No Denton isn't. The only DFW athletic brand that consistently gets a pass when it comes to quality is the Dallas Cowboys. That is why I love when they lose. You have local cities and counties falling all of themselves to had Jerry Jones money meanwhile in some of these same cities they don't have public transportation and their school are failing - see Arlington ISD. And Jerry has no problem signing domestic abusers, alcoholics, and drug addicts but we want to complain about the most minor things when it come to our program. Sorry although emotionally I am right there with you feeling this way but it isn't the reality. The vast majority of students and alumni have not given the administration a reason to invest in the Athletic Department. Also the city of Denton has not embraced UNT Teams as their teams. There was even belly aching in the neighborhood next to Apogee when it was announced that would be the location. If I were not emotionally attached to UNT there would be no way I would accept a AD position here given our history of poor support. If you add up the attendance of games involving DISD high schools you might have more UNT alumni at them than at Apogee the next day. But I guarantee there are more Denton residents at those high school games than at Apogee on Saturday. Drex you are absolutely on point. This is why I don't get why students don't come to games. I get that many of them are actually focused on academics and working but that is no excuse for the numbers we see at Apogee. There are well over 20,000 undergraduate students. About 8,000 should be showing up for every game. Only six Saturdays a year and each student can't show up for a least 2 or 3? And local alumni support is worse. If students and alumni don't have enough affection for the school to support the football program why would an unconnected employer assume there was something prestigious about the school without researching it? Employers glance over resumes and if they aren't from the DFW area or researched colleges (specific degree program that pertains to their industry) in the area when they selected their school, UNT is not going to register to them in a resume glance. SMU got the death penalty and they have better support as smaller private school than we do. We could trade place in our respective conference and they still would have better game attendance than us.

DRC: Five thoughts on UNT's win over Louisiana Tech
Mike Jackson replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Good 5 thoughts. I just want Seth and Graham around for at least 2 more years. I would like to see seasoned QB Cade Pearson with Seth's guidance run through CUSA. So I am hoping for at least 3 more years. -
Would you sit his versus Army since it is a non-conference game? Considering that it is likely that the Mean Green has clinch CUSA West Division by then?
-
Hey smile we won. Looks like you suspected an undercover SMU fan was taking your picture. lol The Whiny Orange are losing to TCU and SMU is losing to UCF. Them both losing would be great desert to go with this win.

After games like this I wish the Mean Green Network had an 1 hour post game show with 2 ten minuter call in segments. Can't get enough of Mean Green Football especially after a close conference game win. Also for home games it would be great if the post game show wasn't overt 10 minutes after getting back to my car. Also hearing radio clip highlights of CUSA games completed that day in the post game would be cool too.

Just wanted to quote this post to remind people to enjoy this win. This was awesome and I wish I could have made the trip. We won't go 0-3 unless there are some disastrous injuries to some key players between now and closing out the season against Rice. I just want a bowl that I can afford to travel to that isn't against Army.
-
I want this one really bad! CUSA West Division go get it. Come on Defense.
-
Running the ball with running back is working
-
QB power there? WTH?
-
They are doing exactly what they are paid to do; help LT get bowl eligible in anyway possible.
-
Since all calls are booth reviews now and you can only initiate one... I would think a challenge wasn’t even necessary. CUSA decided that INT would not count. Definitely close enough to review without UNT using a timeout.
-
Something is rotten about CUSA officials when it comes to our games.
